@Paulo Jorge Cruz I was being sarcastic; I guess this didn't come across.
I was making a joke about the organist's decision to play on the Hauptwerk, at well-nigh full organ, for an entire 10-odd-minute piece of music.
At a recent performance I attended of the BWV 582 Passacaglia and Fugue, the organist did a similar thing - played the piece at the 'gesamtpleno' (for 18 minutes!), pedal played with toes only, tempo faster than fast. Seriously?

It's the Posaunen Bas, not a bombarda. Bombardas are usually brighter. Listen this ruclips.net/video/VXNlXGCuDXc/видео.html

Adam Baranowski Ummmm, I recall Silbermann having preferred the Bombarde to the Posaunen Bass, having been a pupil of Mr. Thiry from France, where the Bombarde has always been the "all-purpose bass" as Gottfried Silbermann's organ at St. Pierre-le-jeune in Strassburg proves. I own recordings of that magnificent instrument, played by none other than maestro Helmut Walcha. He also plays a Frans-Casper Schnitger organ at St. Laurenskerk in Alkmaar. You immediately notice the difference between the Posaunen Bass and the Bombarde. The first lacks that brilliance and series of harmonics. Those give it its masterful "singing voice" I assume. Thank you for your comment by the way. Greetings.

+Adam Baranowski Is more like a muffled "basson-bombarde"...is a kind of hibrid. Remember that his brother buildt organs all in the french classic style. All his trumpets also are in the french style (lead boots, leather-less shallots) as you can clearly listen from 9:21. When usually bass-posaune is coupled with the 8' foot pedal trumpet in the same pedal division the sounds is very bad for me. Bach really likes Silbermann organs? i think only from a practical-technical view...My "ideal" Bach organ should have Hildebrandt's pipe works, Trost mechanichs and Joachim Wagner's reeds...

+Dante Casora You talk about Johann Andreas? Guess you're right, his magnificent instrument at Marmoutier is one of the best/purest-sounding all-time Silbermann's. Even its façade looks french since I recall another instrument by the all-time reknown Cavaillé-Coll (I think that organ is located at St. Marie de Salles) where maestro Daniel Robilliard plays a fantastic version of Charles-Marie Widor's finale from his 5th Symphony. Masterful!

    • @glockengambe

+Dante Casora Gottfried Silbermann had after his return from Alsace/France initially used in his first two in Saxony built organs 16'- Bombards in French style (open shallots without leather - Frauenstein 1710 and Freiberg St Marien 1714). For his next organ for the small church in Pfaffroda 1715 he developed another type (closed lead shallots with leather) which is less intrusive in the acoustically dry room and does better mix with the plenum sound and is simply more versatile. This 'new' Silbermann-Posaune with rounder and fuller sound pleased the Freibergian organist Immanuel Lehmann so much that he wanted to have one for his organ, whereupon Silbermann exchanged the shallots there. In his 8'- Manual-Trumpets he kept the bright and brilliant French type, in the pedal trumpets he used both types. The combination 'german' Posaune 16 + 'french' Trompette 8' = effect of a 'Bombarde' 16'.
