i cant comment on spot on but owned multuple halo collars. had to keep returning it as the 60 day short window of the refund time evaportated away waiting on shipping.
I have a Siberian Husky, do you think the correction strength is strong enough on the Spot On to deter this type of dog? I only ask because a lot of these electric fences have reported not working for huskies. Thanks ahead of time!
I'm looking into possibly buying the spot on system, my concern with the GPS system is that where I live the service here is terrible. My property is very close to the interstate and my dog is a beagle who loves to follow her nose. We almost had a close call with her the other day and I really would love some piece of mind. I really don't want to hook her to the lead I bought (100ft with an extended cable) she is just a free roaming dog. She looks so sad when she's on the lead. I would love to try this fence out because I have 2.5 acres of land for her to roam and this seems like it will allow for that much coverage I'm just worried about the service. Her air tag won't recognize her when she gets close to the highway which is where my property line ends. Does this system work off of my wifi or does it work off of cell towers?
Great question. The fence function works off GPS so it will work anywhere. Notifications on your phone may not work so great with low cell service though.
We’ve had the halo for about 1.5 months for 2 beagles. So far we’ve had multiple issue tech support is very responsive and both collars have been replaced due to issues from support. We really wanted these to work but the dogs are running a much outside the boundary AGAIN this morning. Phone support is great, gps is hit or miss, dogs are NOT safe. We will be returning and trying the Spot on collars. 🤬.
I found the Halo collar a very poor product. I bought a collar back in late 2020. Had multiple issues with it not working. Returned for a refund. This all took about a year to send it in multiple times and then to get the refund. In late November of 2021 they came out with an updated version. Claimed they had fixed all the issues. I applied my refund for the new collar. Upon receiving the new collar the same issues persisted. My dog would get beeps and corrections when no where near the boundaries. Corrections and beeps would be delayed. In the summer of 2022 it quit working all together. Would not charge. I would not count on these collars to completely safeguard your dog. The quality is not there. The connectivity can be spotty with anything on cell data or gps. They should not put your pet's safety on this. The workmanship and reliability is not consistent. Might as well spend the $ on fencing or an underground dog fence. If you do try it out, please be aware of the very short window of time to return it. A 60 day return policy melts away fast with training and product shipping.
The Halo collar will go off while it’s in the fenced area mentally confusing her/him. I’ve talked with all the Halo experts and have tried several settings and when it seems to be doing great it goes off on her How do train your pet when it gives corrections in bounds
I want to use this on our camper site as well as our yard at home. Did I see that the spot on has the warning 10ft before the border??? If so that is not going to work as it will eat up the majority of the camp site I want to contain her onto. The Halo did not have that 10' note but if it is not accurate will it keep her in? Seems disadvantages to both
That 10ft warning is true with the SpotOn. You might want to check out some of the systems from PetSafe that are designed for smaller yards. Will do a review on those soon.
@@ThePamperedPup Is that true for the Halo as well? We do have the PetSafe Wireless at home and it has always worked well. However it is a round perimeter and I was hoping the Halo or the SpotOn would allow me to use it to expand our coverage at home and also at our camper site but it is rectangular in shape not round. The round limitation is frustrating. Thanks!!
I watched the video several times in the 5:00 time. Sometimes it seemed that “warning - correction” were almost at the same time. Other times it looked like the clip had been edited and I couldn’t tell. GPS is capable of almost exact location but I don’t expect it on a dog collar. I’m not sure of 10’ accuracy. I DO want a warning first to give the dogs time to stop. I’d almost prefer to turn the shock off rather than give them a “watch out zap!” With no delay.
Great question. The SpotOn has performed the best in all of our testing. However, if they are too small for the SpotOn's small-size collar the Wagz might not be a bad choice as it clips onto their existing collar.
Is it possible that the Halo or wagz is triggered by a dogs type of motion? Possibly an algorithm utilizing accelerometers? Maybe an experiment you could try.
We’re 1.5 months in with halo. Great tech support from co. But these collars are NOT working for our beagles. Will be returning and trying spot on. $$ was our deciding factor but after the last 1.5 months, very disappointed with halo.
When youre testing the Halo collar, you are holding it steady. It has an accelerometer inside that detects movement. So you have to bob or shake it a bit when you are testing it. Doing the test like you are doing now is an inaccurate test of the collar.
Good to know, we can look into that. Although performance has been similar while actually wearing the collar: ruclips.net/video/LJtlqcTNgN8/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Ygs5ctd4b80/видео.html
@@ThePamperedPup Yeah-but humans' necks are pretty static when they walk. A dog's neck moves up and down because they are on 4 legs and have more head movement. So you're really not simulating the dog wearing the collar. Halo's training specifically states that to test the collar when not on a dog, you shake it up and down a bit as you move with it. Otherwise you're getting inaccurate info. I'm a SpotOn user, but I still think Halo deserves a fair review. This video might turn people away from Halo based upon inaccurate analysis.
Thank you for your input. We'll certainly try shaking it very well next time we test. To be fair, we are using the same controls for both collars here, so I'd hesitate to say its an inaccurate analysis. Rather, there may be some nuances with Halo that need to be considered. If indeed the shaking of the collar has an impact - which I take your word for as we haven't tested it as such - I would question why it has shocked without warning on many occasions while a human was wearing the collar within the boundaries.
Is that the original Halo collar or the Halo 2+? I ordered the Halo 2+ over a week ago, but it hasn't been shipped yet. When I emailed Halo they said it was being shipped from Taiwan. If that's the Halo 2+ I think I need to cancel my order before they ship it.

How much are the monthly subscriptions for spot on and halo wags
Yes, you can see our review here: ruclips.net/video/r-bvw5w4P3g/видео.html
Wagz has gone out of business. The others start at about $10/mo.
Do you know of any that are suited for smaller dogs. My dog is 15lbs. These collars are too big and bulky.
Something like the PetSafe pet containment system could work. GPS collars are usually a bit more bulky because of the components required.

Yes this is definitely possible. We will be testing this in two weeks
Dogs walk slowly too!
How durable is the spot on we have two halo collars for our blue heelers and the halo collar static level doesn’t go high enough for the one dog
It seems pretty well built. We haven’t tested how high the correction goes on both.
