  • Here's the first of several videos this year from the Cedar Point and Lake Erie Railroad. I got so many videos from this year I decided to split them all up by day.
This year was a crazy and fun year, and part of that fun was the fact that we finally fired up our biggest engine, George R. #4. This is a 1942 Porter built engine that originally served at Carbon Limestone in Pennsylvania. It's our youngest engine overall, but it's the only operable engine we have that still retains its original riveted boiler. This past spring, me and several of my coworkers obtained a historical boiler's license for the state of Ohio, thus allowing us to run this engine.
The age of the boiler combined with the weight of this engine are a couple reasons we don't run this very often, but this year we changed it up. We test fired it in the spring as seen here, and then we ran it again a few times in the fall for the public. It was great finally being able to run and fire this beast, and hopefully it'll be running again next year.
Since I was actually working this day, I couldn't venture out much past the yard, but I still got several shots of it working itself out in the morning and then running around the station later in the day. I also included a little bell duel between George's bell and G.A. Boeckling's bell, 2 bells you usually don't get hear together.
