this was my life saver tysm...my dance team results come in tmmr and i’m so excited! Turns have never been my strong spot but I know I can do it, thanks to you🤗🎊 you don’t understand how much this helped me!!!!!!!
Yes, the main reason is actually from a dance show called The Next Step. I do have studio experience, and I am in a studio. We are working on multiple turns. But, I have an audition in a few or so months. So I am working really hard. Thank you! For this video, it helps a ton.
Thank you so much Kayleen, I did not know how to do a la seconde turn before this at all, I would always look at the older girls in awe when they would perform it easily and so I wanted to try it out, I was soooooo bad at it at first but now I am pretty good, I am even adding it in my solo dance. Thanks so much and also could I get a video on attitude turns, thank you!
thank you! i need to try to get mine better for my lyrical routine this year and i have them really good on carpet but on the studio floor for some reason i can only do them somewhat ok with one shoe but i have only used these tips once and they seem to work!
First video of yours and you're so wholesome! I'm not quite at the level yet that they teach you to do these (interfound in ballet, and pre elementary in jazz), but I'm able to do all of the things well, and can do a triple pirouette. This really helped me and it's so well made! Thank you so much!
I've been trying to learn a la second turns for a while, and I'm getting the basics of it. And now I'm trying to improve them now. Is it okay if my leg is extended higher than 90 degrees? Or for sit have to be exactly 90 degrees? And do you have any acrobatics tutorials? Thank you for the vid btw!!💓💕🤗
iLeonu_e Hey! That’s awesome-keep working at it! From most of my training I have heard that it is best to keep the leg at or under 90 degrees! That will be the most efficient way to use your energy :-)
@@KayleenBabel OMG!! You replied!! I also have another question. Whenever I begin my turns I'll sometimes either lose my balance or bend over too much and fall out of it. Do you have any tips to help with that? Thank you again!!💜🦋💙😊
Tysm for this video!! I’m on a high school dance team and have no dance experience prior to it. I was a competitive gymnast though. I “have” my a la seconds but I’m working on getting my technique to be A LOT better
Danielle C that’s definitely the case for a lot of people. Focus on your technique and doing them properly! Do it for yourself and your future (not the applause 🤗)
I’m mostly a left leg person but for auditions I have to do my right side. I’ve noticed that I usually always hop with right a le seconds, do you have any tips? Also this is v helpful thank you!!!!!
Hi! I would work on single leg releves on that side, and also make sure you're not throwing yourself off balance by moving your upper body... that could be the reason you're hopping... I notice people tend to hop either because 1) they don't have the single leg strength to go up and down in releve without moving or 2) they are doing too much upper body movement and have to compensate to find balance by hopping! I hope that helps!
I’m a junior in high school looking to try out for a dance team in about a year. How important are turns in second? My strengths are extensions and I can leap as well, but turning has always been a struggle even though I’ve been dancing for 12 years. I have consistent doubles on both sides and my turns in second are inconsistent and only on 1 side. Do you think I can improve these within the year I have?
Hey! It really depends on the team. Some teams will consider it more important than others, so you just need to do your research. But YES girl. You have plenty of time to improve. Figure out what is throwing you off and slowly work on those things! You can do it! Good luck :-)
What are some Exercises to help Strengthen your legs, cuz when I do mines I always get frustrated because there not high enough and my legs aren’t straight
Axtumn Lxves if you’re legs aren’t straight you should practice relieves!!!!! I just made a post on Instagram about straightening your knees, and i talked a little bit about it in my latest video (“these things make your dancing look bad”) If your extended leg isn’t getting high enough, practice extending it out, holding it as high as you can, and then lifting up just a little bit (like little pulses). It’s kinda hard to explain, so I’ll try to make a video soon! I hope that helps
I'll try to make a video on it :-) You should practice single leg releves and really pushing out of the floor. Also make sure you're using your arms to help get yourself around!
do u have any tips for if you’re supporting leg is always bend? because mine is ALWAYS bent when i’m turning and my coaches tell me to straighten it and i try but it isn’t working
Have you tried going back to the basics and working on releves and single-leg releves? You should focus on getting the leg super straight in releve, then move on to the turns while maintaining the same principles... Also, straightening your base leg requires your quad muscle and calf to be super strong, so you should feel it squeezing there when you releve/turn! I hope that makes sense & helps!
Im just curious why a la seconde turns are never done with a right standing leg. I have arthritis in my left ankle, but have always wanted a la secondes. Does it just look weird to do it on the other side?
I have a question,I struggle on changing spot turns,I’m able to get to the second corner but once it hits that corner I can’t do anymore.Do you have any tips and also do you have any tips on do a la second turns out of a jazz pirouette
@@KayleenBabel Thank you! Do you have tips on how to do multiple pirouettes because when I spot something when Im doing them I can only do one. But when I dont spot in my pirouettes, I can do 4-5. Do you have any tips with it ? :(
Essentially it's the same principles, but you'll have to keep the leg out to the side the whole time instead of bringing it across your body. That will take more glute strength and working on turnout will help!
Do you have any tips on how to not crunch down onto your supporting leg when you plie? I've been doing it for as long as I've been turning and I just don't know how to fix it :///
I'm going to put up a video soon with more turn tips because so many people have been asking for it! For now, I would really recommend doing single leg releves at the bar and concentrating on keeping your upper body stable. If you can get the position properly before you actually turn, it will help a lot!
I can do a lot of turns in second but the problem is I cannot go in Releve am I supporting leg is so so so bend and I try to exercises but it does doesn’t help so if you have any tips I would really help
Try standing at the barre and doing the motion of a turn without the actually turn. And then when you get to the center to do the turns, start with one at a time and make sure you’re pushing into the floor while straightening your leg as much as possible. Then work on adding one more at a time after you’ve mastered that! There’s really no shortcut except using your quad muscle to really straighten your leg!
I've been working on a la seconde turns since I was either 9 or 10 years old and I still struggle. I keep rolling my supportive foot whenever I turn. Is there a way to stop myself from doing it?
definitely working on releves on their own will help... you want to get a solid foundation without the turns first. Check out my latest video ;-) I hope that helps!
Brooke Danielson Most people aren’t! 🤷🏼♀️ Of course there are other factors as well, I just feel like strength is really important to be successful with turns!
i would love to see a video with how to get better calypsos! my knee in the back keeps bending down and doesnt stay at a tabletop position!
