Biggest Battle Of My Life! - I'M DONE WITH IT! 1966 Chevy Biscayne Ready For The Crusher?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 18 ноя 2024
- This 1966 Chevy Biscayne was supposed to be a fun summer project. Quick, easy and cheap. All we accomplished was cheap. Granted I cause most of these issues by big block swapping and 2 door converting the old girl.
It's been a long road but I'm pretty happy with the end result. A little less snow would be nice. O well, the weather will change eventually...

Imagine Dan running into the Comp Cams booth while at SEMA, especially wearing that shirt!
I had to go back and look after seeing your comment. That is awesome!

We like to have fun here haha
Nice shirt! Another realistic look at what hot rodding really is! Thanks for posting the truth!
The cold open on this vid of you spinning the biscayne around in the snow put an immediate smile on my face as soon as I seent you got it running! Excellent stuff as always you guys

Well done! If you are doing any of the power tours next summer, this is the car for that. It's unique and it has become a symbol for what struggles can come with hot rods.
Slow clap incoming. I know she's been a pain in the ass but kudos to you for sticking with it Dan. Definitely right up there with my favorite cars you've built.
Could not imagine going back to weather like that. Manitoba is a good place to be from.
its nice to see you driving it in snow. brings back memories of my youth when we had to.
Dan, We your supporters encourage you completely! You persevered and now your coupe is ready. Great work! I would love to see you drop that turbo V6 into that Opel GT. It's going to be a cool summer cruiser.
Thabks dude!
Frustrating build for you, but lots of good content for us ! It's a big win!!
When it comes to timing, I like to earball it, as oppose to eyeballing it. Thanks for the video Dan. Glad to see this car has finally got an engine that it is happy with.

Couldn't agree with ya more
Few mishaps, pretty straight forward, it looks great, we don't have many two door's here in Australia, maybe something like a Hyundai Gets or something but nothing of a decent size, we used to get your two door Pontiac but they were around $70 thousand or something, they are getting Mustangs here in the last 5 or so years, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Dan your struggles with this build are just like mine on my road runner. Keep em coming.
Your description sums it up pretty well. Quick easy and cheap. No starting with $40k auction cars and spending another $30k in parts. This is something a high school kid with a part time job could accomplish and have fun and a usable hot rod. You remind me in some ways of me with my first car a 64 Buick Skylark that went through many changes on a low budget.
I agree with you about that.

Reminds me of my '68 Mustang I bought for $500 with paper route money in 1977.
I love the tri five conversions but this thing is great. I still see this thing with a big block some day. I think you ought to watch out for a 4 door Nova to do as it looks like they would work as well...Great times a coming no matter what
Thats awesome that its finally done. The big block was cool but the small block seems to be a bit more balanced in it. And it has just enough power to cause trouble lol. It sounds great. Sucks that its snow season though lol. - Jamie
You're doing good keeping it together Dan, if I was you I'd go with a 195 degree thermostat. Ppl don't realize lower engine temps makes them wear out quicker.
It's what I had kicking around haha
We will watch whatever you do next. Lol Glad to see it driving again, Thanks for sharing! 🙂👍

My vote for next projects are
1. Put LS in 56 wagon to free up garage floor space
2. Bring home a Camaro for long winter project
3. Have your buddy that is a body man do final body work on Nomad and paint it in a booth. A car worth big dollars needs a paint booth paint job.
Looking good. For toe in take a 2x4 about a foot wider than the car then put 2 16p nails in the 2x4 at the outside of tire edge. Adjust the toe in so you have a 1/16” less in front edge of tire compared to the back edge. Bend the nails to make perfect

Quick thought on the front end alignment… I live most of the time in a developing country in Africa. The way I learned to check the toe there is by sucking a thumbtack in the tread of the back tire (about half way up towards the rear of the car), then tie a string to it and stretch it along the sidewall of the rear tire and extend it until you reach the front of the front tire. As you gently pull it against the sidewall of the front tire and observe whether it touches in front or in back first, you will know whether you need to adjust the toe in or out. Of course, you begin this process with your steering wheel in a straight position! 👍🏼
I like when a car drives through the snow for miles and gets giant ice bergs attached to the lower quarter panels, making its own artic mud flaps. Do a road trip!

Haha
That Fan is louder than the exhaust at the end lol! Nice build, I watched through all the headaches and the wins!! Very inspiring Dan
It looks like a factory 2 door. Great job!! 👌👌
Love the Comp Scams shirt!!
Reminds me of the time a Buddy and his first car a 1964 Pontiac Laurentian 4 dr.
White h/t Robin Egg blue, coming back from downtown Vancouver in the first snowfall of the season a whole 2 inches on semi bald summer tires, spinning the azz end around and drifting it into the curb.
Bent the frame and limped it home and then a call to the wreckers the next day.
Ahhh, good times back in the early 80's.
Thank You for the memories.
Glad to see it running and driving. Never let a piece of machinery kick your ass!
Hey Dan, You stuck with it to the very end. Great to see the 66 on the road again. It has been a struggle but it's worth it. Thanks for the journey and we'll see you next time.
I have a feeling y’all are going to
Have a rough winter. Stay safe and warm up there
I'm just glad to see it mobile. My thoughts were to weld the washers together and then weld them to the A arm.
Good to see you driving that thing finally
Great Work Dan.Age takes a toll on these old Hot Rods.
Dan use the string from front bumper to rear bumper and measure from string to rim front and back.
We do that at the race track to adjust toe. And a spirit level on rim for camber

Loved seeing the Biscayne spinning in the snow and the Comp Scams tee made me laugh. Good job and kudos to your perseverance on this one.
I lol’d at the comp T shirt. Class man class. Good job on pushing through and getting it done.
Congrats on getting it finally out of the garage! In the spring BBC swap, and burnouts!!!!
I have watched all of the video on the biscayne and it just reminded me that I dont really have it that bad with my 51 chev, sedan 3 motors and 2 rear ends and I am back on the road. I hated it and now I love it again .
It has been tons of trouble but good to see her running and driving once again...on to the next project!!!
Vary awesome indeed. Nice job on getting the car running and moving sweet down the road. Cool. Keep up the great work. Okay.
That 2 door conversion turned out great
Well it's been a hell of a ride with this one but so cool that it's going back on the road and it's been really great to follow the progress
Thank you for the comtent and looking forward to more from you both 😀
Snow donuts! Glad you finished it!

Dan the quickest way I found to do a backyard alignment was get two pieces of tile for each wheel and sandwich some sand between the two tiles it makes a cheap and dirty bearing plate and you can move the tires effortlessly with your hands. Set the two pieces of tile with sand under each tire and lower the car down gently. Bounce on the bumper a bit to compress the suspension and then set toe for about a quarter inch in. That will get you by till you can get to the alignment shop for a proper alignment. It works pretty mint👌

when i was16 i had a 1965 chevy two door with a 283 with 327 powerpac heads three in the floor loved that hotrod it was so much fun
Grassroots hotrodding right there, good job Dan, on helping to keep real hotrodding alive.... Rob uk
Dan your honesty is refreshing
I had a 65 Impala basically the the same thing ,cool cars and ya lots of fum in the snow!
Excellent car, excellent project, excellent job Dan. We love the '66 4 to 2 door converted, Biscayne, (Bel Air??),, whatever, it's way cool. Please, get a fan clutch for it so the direct fan noise doesn't drown out the exhaust sound. It, (the exhaust), sounds very good.
You want to set toe really good on anything? Spray paint a patch on the center of the tire. Then scribe a line in that paint. Just hold something steady n scribe a line as you rotate the tire. Set your toe off those lines That old junk will drive straight. You could set it down on Jackstands to get weight on it. Cookie sheets work to.😁
Cool results on the Biscayne build Dan!
Right on. The old Biscayne is back in action. Brings back memories of winter '76. I was walking home from school on a snowy NL afternoon when my cousin picked me up in his '66 winter beater Biscayne. It was a dark blue four door with the inline six. The old six banger hardly made enough heat to keep the windows defrosted but it was a quite a level of comfort above trudging in the snow.

Glad to see the old girl moving under her own power, finally! Congrats.
We've only been following for a couple months...love the videos and how you keep it real! Then it's donuts in the snow...weeee!
Love this Canadian Redneck hot-rodder !!! Working on the cars we work on in the garage we work in !!!
You look like Marv from home alone when you squint out the window there xD glad to see it move under its own power! You've wrenched on this thing like crazy
Miss those winter days of pulling donuts in an empty lot.
Nice spins!!! Cool seeing you run it!!
Awesome car! I've followed the whole build and yes your right you have had many headaches... Glad to see you guys enjoy it.... 👍👍

I know it has been a struggle for you but this is my favorite build of yours. Great car and I'm not really a fan of full size Chevys. Hope to see it again with a big block.
It’s been the revenge of the creeper. Ever since you ran over the creeper things have gone south with the build. You need to hold a ceremony to honor the creeper, to break the string. The damn thing is probably behind the gas theft too!

Great shirt. I heard they make awesome cam lifters with amazing customer service.
Hey Dan,
To make a proper tape measure tow adjustment, make your measurements at front and rear of tires while the car is on the ground, do your math, what ever the difference between the two measurements is, the adjustment is half, for instance, if the tow is 1/2 inch positive, (positive tow is when the front of the tires point in) then lift the vehicle and remove 1/4 inch from rear side of tow measurement, if it has 1/2 inch negative tow (front of tires pointing out), add 1/4 to rear measurement. Lower car and roll it back and forth a few feet while turning the wheel side to side a little, then remeasure. If the steering wheel isn't straight, raise car, take a measurement, adjustment both sides accordingly and return to measurement taken.(for example, if wheel is off to the left, turn left side tie rod out, right side in and vise versa if wheel is off to right) I've done it this way hundreds of times and never needed to send them out for any other adjustments unless there was a need for camber or caster adjustment.
Enjoy your content, keep it up.
Good luck with your projects!!
Great job on the biscayne. It's a good low budget job .
On our race cars, I used to spin the front tires and use a piece of chalk to draw a center line on the tire for reference.
my dad had a maroon 66 caprice with a 396 i loved that car he got tickets in it so much my mom made him get rid of it , it brings me back every time I see you drive it or fix it it was a 2 door and ss .
Good job Dan! way 2 Persevere!
Dan, every time you are under the front end of that car, you will look at those washers and grimace. These old boats had terrible turning circles to start with. But it's a band-aid that works for now. Onto better things...😉

You have done an amazing job with this car. Keep up the great work.
You made a type of car that just about every body would like to own to be able to attend cruise night and tour with other people in an comfortable ride that should be super dependable
Next? I want to see you do whatever the hell you want !
Looks like you won this fight! That car is exactly what I love to see, no matter what year, make or model.
Just a good ol' regular Joe working guy's souped up daily driver that didn't cost Sultan of Brunei money to put on the street. The only time it screams "look at me!" is if you put your foot in it.
In the old days, when guys used to race for titles out on the airport access road, the smart guys who knew how to build winners on a budget always seemed to have stuff that looked like this. They smoked the guys with the flashy hipster rigs. One guy used to say "Chrome and shiny paint ain't what goes fast"
The cops didn't bother the plain Jane rides too much either.
Hats off, thumbs up and big respect for getting to the finish line with this one!
You definitely got yourself something now.
CHEERS!
Endeavor to persevere! Nice work DD!
Well cool. That was exhausting. On the bright side you comprimised and halfassed it all the way to the end. So you got that going for ya. I love it. Job well done?🤭
First off all ! I love that T your wearing says it all lol second I’ve done my own roadside wheel alignment lol did not work out good lol third,I love the car and the way it sounds Dan excellent job !!!! Keep it up bud !!
Danni's car would make a good winter car project, doesn't take up much room in the garage.

I used to love doing donuts back when I had my 69 Camaro 1000 years ago. It drive pretty good in the snow considering.

Well, after all the ups and downs, you took a cheap crusty 4 door and made a cool cheap beater for less than the price of any cheap modern junker.
F'n mint!👌
Takes me back to my youth
Goal achieved👍
I know you don’t want to hear this, but the Bis-pain is my favorite car you’ve done!
Just enjoy the next project!
Onwards and upwards!👍🏻🇨🇦
Do something 4 wheel drive to have fun in the snow, maybe a hot rod snow machine
That takes me back. Cars like this are what made the best winter beaters in the Peg. Of course, then they were a hundred bucks and ready for abandonment in the spring 🤣

Wheel Alignment!...Should make your own "toe measurement" bar and do the camber with a bubble level.... Do a DIY alignment BEFORE taking it to a shop for alignment and film both to reveal the difference in results!
Damn good idea!

You need to take the big block symbols off of it before it’s 100 percent complete. I suggest putting 6 cylinder emblems on it (sleeper). Some of your best work and you got a lot of experience swapping engines. Hope Comp Cams is feeling the burn. Really a nice car, Dan. I don’t think the 4 dr to 2 dr changeover has been done on that body style before. Thanks for sharing this adventure with us.

Don't forget to mount the plow!!! 😆 Dan you're priceless!
Wet snowy roads with bad alignment, have fun going in a straight line. I prefer a chalk line around tire. The cribs i suggested would come into play right about now…
It was a battle, but you didnt give up. Says a lot. It sure tested your patience.

Do a rolling toe. Mark rear of tires and measure, roll forward and measure again, do it on big trucks all the time.
Great job 👏 love your work
Can't wait for the Ls swap for dummies sign me up. Is the class full yet? I've got two log skidders and a doodle bug that need that swap thanks DD's speed shop keep up all the great work.oh yeah let's see that 12 valve in one of your hot rods that peg gave you.......
Put the distributor vac hose on the carb's ported vac outlet. Might help.
if you put a jack stand under the a frame on each side it will give you ride height then use a string from back to front to get your steering wheel straight then use a tape measure for your toe then a magnetized torpedo level for your camber
Okay here’s the problem….you must take the column shifter out of “park” and you will experience instant horsepower increase
Just started watching, love the T- Shirt.
