It’s so heartbreaking because she will live with this trauma and the loss of her mother the rest of her life and she is so young. Trauma like this brings out chronic illnesses, mental health issues, etc.. over time. She deserves every penny she is getting. Shame on Johns Hopkins.

Everyone that was involved should get fired. They knew that without the parents present they could do with her what they wanted. They wanted to show her at 10 years of age that they were in control of her life. They need to be held accountable. I can’t imagine how many more of this situations are happening through out the medical industry. People need to be held accountable again no matter where you work at.

A patient has rights in a hospital that conflict with the hospitals patient rules. Hospitals hire mentally insane individuals who suffer anger issues and work in all different hospital areas because they look good on paper and have a degree but the hospital doesn't check into them hard like they should to see social media posts that are insane, criminal records thatake one cringe. All this needs changing so hospitals will change for the better.

I feel that there might be some cover up from the hospital staff. Perhaps when time went by, in the second month or so on they already knew the truth (Maya is ill and has CRPS) but tried to cover their mistakes up. Otherwise why Maya can't talk to other kids?

I agree. I've noticed many instances where he interrupted the moment and rushed the witness, or abruptly asked another question. His timing isn't the best, unfortunately. Often silence is very powerful, or a bombshell statement needs a few seconds to really sink in. I'm not saying there hasn't been incredibly powerful testimony, just that if he really honed in on his timing, the testimony would have even more impact and poignancy.

And beware of hospital "social workers". Require that anyone you speak with identify themselves and do not talk to the social workers without an attorney present. The hospital social workers work hand in hand with Child Protective Services and you'd be shocked at how quick and baseless they are at throwing accusations around. When my infant son was in the PICU for IUGR, the hospital social workers accused me of having "severe Postpartum Depression" when there was absolutely zero evidence of such, and I'd never had post partum with any of my 5 previous children. I won't say all, but many of the "social workers" are disgusting crooks.

I don't think she did it out of pain. She was desperate to get Maya the treatment she needed. She sat there knowing how much pain Maya was in day after day and then that doctor told her that she was at risk for blood clots without treatment and that her life was in jeopardy. Nothing was moving forward at all and she felt like if she was out of the picture Maya would go home and her dad would get her appropriate treatment. I think she honestly believed that she was trading her own life for Maya's.... and maybe she did.

This is why i hesitate bringing my children to hospitals. And im a nurse. To not be believed by the staff, having the decisions all in their hands makes me so anxious sometimes. Especially knowing there are evil nurses in the world that dont advocate for their patients and go behind the patient and family's backs making decisions with doctors so far as pushing the notion of having a mother taken away from their child. All this talk about the doctors. Just know during a 12 hour shift the nurses are with the patient and doctorw and other staff only see them once or twice a shift. The nurses should be held acountable for not advocating for what the patient wanted and needed and for not believing the mom who was worrying for her daughter and trusted them.

The hospital, the doctors involved, and the lawyers defending them are pure evil. They are absolutely 100% completely responsible for her Mum's death, and her suffering.

I thought school shootings were awful. This is one of the most gut wrenching horrific tragedies in modern medicine. What the “professionals” did to this family is horrendous. Medicine is highly complex. You cannot diagnose people just by looking at them!

What I don’t guess is how all the part involved are still working at the hospital! How disgusting. Social services persecuted a mom without proof of abuse, but in the Gabriel Fernandez’ case where was pretty much purple at child protection services offices and they chose to ignore it! What an excellent job they’re doing 🤬🤬🤬🤬
