Where I'm from (Eastern Canada) using body pucks is considered a really bad idea. Hockey pucks become brittle in colder weather and easily fall apart when constant pressure is applied. Hitting them with a stick is fine because it's just an elastic force. It was common here to use hockey pucks for body lifts for a few years but then they all started falling apart. We had a fatal accident in the area were the pucks fails, the body bolts broke and cab separated from the frame.
definitely wouldnt be my first choice for an off roader at first but seeing this makes it look so easy. ML55 is super underrated. Every one i've driven the seat doesn't go back far enough at all being tall. this is going to look amazing with the lift finished.
Love this video, I also have 01 ML mine is a 320 but this trucks are amazing! Off roading I have driven it across country and it has being reliable! I have taken in off road many times through snow, mud, 50 degrees slope hills lifting wheels in the air and no issues, I love my ML Had some simple fixes but nothing major. Thanks for postin this video
Come on this is my video!! It was me chirping the hockey puck lift!! In Canada we just have pucks laying around!! Sweet I’m glad I can help with this great content!! A smart man reads comments on his videos! And disregards the haters cuz that’s normal!! Great vid!
As a Canadian (Official hockey and puck expert) We have been doing the body puck lift for decades. The best are made here in the great white North. Those China pucks are like using Wish coilovers!
Dying to see the next update on this SUV!! Looks like a fun project. Used to have a 2000 ML430 which we really enjoyed, took it to Germany in 2004 and sold it after a year and got an A6 Allroad.
Hey Alex. Great project. I'm stoked since I have an ML55 too. So what body bolts will you be using? Also looking forward to hearing how the shocks work and whether there's enough compression for full articulation. How will you be limiting the total droop so as to avoid stressing the CV joints on the front and rear axles? So happy you're back to doing m113 era projects!!!
That looks great!!! I live in the country, on a gravel road... that vehicle would suit me well. I own a 4" long arm lifted 03 Jeep WJ (all season) and a pampered 09 W209. So nice, that ML vehicle is an amalgam of both my rides...
This is cool for sure, never seen a lifted benz before. My dd is a 95 xj with 6.5 long arms and 33s for now. Gears, lockers, body lift and 37s next summer!!
I can see great work on this project but also being a jet & car mechanic for half my life, I would say, "hand starting first, than catch a few threads with a ratchet and socket are more advisable than a power tool which can instantly cross-thread a bolt.
I’d recommend getting some wheel spacers if you want to run the stock wheels, jeep guys do it all the time you’ll be fine with a 1.5 inch spacer and it should help turning. Also trimming the bottom edges of the bumpers should help with clearance. Looks awesome though I’ve always had a soft spot for these little suvs.
Yeah, it is! Our 1.5" lift kit works with both the air and spring suspensions E53. Shoot us an email to all@fluidmotorunion.com for more information. -Donny
This looks amazing!! Never thought to use hockey pucks as a lift to the suspension. I use hockey pucks to protect the pinch weld to jack up my car but that's about it. Can't wait to see the next vid! 🍻 Alex!
Found a 2k ML55 AMG for 2k right after I found your video. Should I go for it? Cheers mate!!!!!! Woah, the those are really SICK tires and setup. I have done this to my ml like 3 months ago and I have also machined rear shock absorber spacers to lift the rear end I am from Europe and I have a ml270 cdi here a bit slow with offroad tires sure this is not a problem for your v8 amg tuned engine😂
Gosh, I can’t believe we had to wait an extra day for this incredible content you provide us at no charge. Honestly, I’m not sure I’ll ever forgive you Alex... Lol, awesome video as usual!

As Always Alex "Too Kool For School!" Never thought I'd be watching a video on a Mercedes? Especially lasting all the way through it! And then... Looking forward to the next in the sequence! You definitely have "Stretched" my limits of "my car world!" J
Hi Mr. Palmieri. Excellent channel. Very entertaining, I've learned lot a MB tips. Thanks. Can you please do a video on the MB GL 320 CDI. Off Road mods and 4x4 capability preferred.
K&N? Any comments on this filter? Are K&N filters good or badddddd. Love the channel bro, so does my S55 AMG. She is purrrrring again thanks to you. A million thanks & keep em coming...
B careful they might cracks. I used hokey pucks on my 04 audi already cause the air bags blew. It worked well until they would crack n fall out. I had pieces of hokey pucks all over town. Lol
Really good idea! I have always loved this ML. People usually look at it and say: This will not go where my truck will go... But then... It goes and goes and goes 😁
As a car guy, I have to say this is another awesome build Alex. As a Benz buy, I'm cringing a bit..... .... I'll just wash that away with a 🍺 and wait for those body 🔩 with excitement.
Hey Man, love the ML's.... you should check TFL Chanel, they had an ML 320 and broke it almost instantly off roading... it was something to do with the differencials or transfer case, basically because of no maintenance, check it out before you go to the rally... Thank you for you're videos
What kind of SUV or truck do you drive?
Navigator 4x4, Tahoe 4x4, Outback AWD, F250 4x4. Man, I have alot of lift options..

Yeah it sucks to say but i know many poeple who tried it and its really dangerous
Use metal instead and weld it
@@m4rcusj0rdan58 why weld it?
Gosh that sounds horrible!
I am so glad someone is finally doing this with an ML!! :D

I drive a 16 Chevrolet Silverado stock height. I'd love to raise it. This video series makes my heart happy.
The most fun and accessible auto youtuber is Alex and Legit Street Cars.
Those tires are the exact same size as the tires on a 1st gen Ford Raptor! love it
why the hell would you not buy hockey pucks .. from i dont know maybe the home of hockey canada 🇨🇦
It's so fun to see you work on a w163, I watched every single of your videos since your E55, which is when I built my ML.
Now wanting a ML even more. That lift looks amazing

Hockey pucks are tough stuff, I used them on my bronco and they were still good more than ten years later, the truck rusted to pieces.

Alex this is the coolest. It looks so serious on those beefy tires. Can't wait to see it with a body lift and spacers on the rear springs.
Should have used Blackhawk's pucks! Cool build, going to be fun on the trails.
I wouldn’t mind lifting my E53 X5 by 25mm but it’s got air suspension on the rear and springs on the front.. is it possible?
Yes! Watch my first video on the ml55. I show the lift kit you need and how to get it

Hey. Nice ml.
Just small question - what exact size bolt you used for replacing original bolt after you fitted pucks? Thanks in advance
Small world! Lol I work at the Hospital in Naperville. Me and my wife drive Lexus GX460s
Check the uptravel on those shocks. It looks like you will bottom them out long before the suspension fully compresses.

Where to buy replacement rubber frame bushing for the ml? The don't seem to have any available anymore

What’s the part number for the Bilstein shocks with reservoir?

Spacers on all 4 corners would help with stability now that its raised too
