Yeah, I had both growing up. The one feature the 2nd game had (not referenced here) that really made it for me was the ability to customise the board logo design ❤. I was always a sucker for that BITD. Same with Rage Racer with Top Gear Rally on N64 being the apex of this - the progenitor for what we would see as customsation in the Forza series imo 👍
This is definitely one of my favourite games of all time and definitely my favourite snowboarding game. The races were intense and actually felt fast. Had that arcade feel that was obviously big in the 90s. I was very good at this as a kid. Beat it recently in first place with Yaggi. The Pal soundtrack is also much better than the US version.
I had a demo of this back when I was a teen. Like you I couldn't get into it. But revisiting it as an adult, I quite enjoy it. It's on my list of ps1 games to spend some serious time with.
I played so much 1 and 2 with my younger brother and cousin backbin the days. I believe this was the last Cool Boarders game that UEP System developed, and for that, i really love it. Still have the original feel that CB bring to PS1 with gameplay, presentation, and audio.

This was the 1st cool boarders I ever played and it took a while to get used to but once you did it was brilliant.
