Virtual Pro Wrestling 64 released in 1997 on the Nintendo 64 and is the second game in the Virtual Pro Wrestling series. It was only released in Japan and uses a slightly remodeled version of WCW vs nWo World Tour's engine. The game features wrestlers from WCW, but also includes generic renditions of wrestlers from major Japanese promotions such as NJPW and AJPW, which would continue in it's sequel Virtual Pro Wrestling 2. The game is a semi-sequel to Virtual Pro-Wrestling released that same year exclusively for the PlayStation.

These games were so innovative. It took about 10 years for them to catch up to these aki masterpieces...

This is the Japanese version of WCW vs. nWo World Tour. Same game but with more moves, updated moves (ie Kevin Nash does a proper Jacknife powerbomb in this), a wrestler edit, and about 60 additional characters.

The 4th guy in Inoki’s hidden slot is “Monster Man” Everett Eddy. He fought Inoki in the late 70’s.

Joshua Berger there’s a few guides online that mis-attribute a few of the guys on this roster, but especially the boxers. I’m also not entirely convinced the 3rd guy in Maurice Smith’s slot is Don Wilson, as he really was never a thing in Japan, but that’s who guides claim it is and I’m unsure as to who it might be.
Nonetheless, you’re welcome, and I had to do some research myself to find out about Eddy.

I bought this game in 1997 and play it several times a year for the past 20 years. I still have my N64 hooked up for it. I think it's a little better than the 2nd version, the colors, the music, and the wrestler AI combined with the difficulty just seem better to me. I also like how you pretty much have to have the wrestler down in blue spirit in order to pin them, when in the 2nd it can be done at almost any time. I also like the carreer mode so much more. you can pick what company you want to wrestle in and the rules differ depending on that. Falls count anywhere is the only thing that would make this game perfect.

I wish I could play it properly in the Project 64 emulator. The screen is always glitching when the IA is far or close to me outside, and sometimes crashes and the emulation automatically stops.

Yeah, same thing happens to me. If it ever freezes on you, what usually works for me is go to System, then Save and then Restore and it'll continue.
Unfortunately I don't know how to fix the flickering.

The guy after Gerard Gordeau is Don Wilson, not Nielson. Look up his highlights on RUclips. They even got the fight with him vs Maurice Smith.

This game was NOT made by new Japan/NJPW. it has a WCW license and featured 60 other wrestlers who had fake names that could be changed. the 2nd game Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 had an AJPW license, and a myriad of wrestlers from other promotions again under fake names.
