You are a brave woman to paint fabric! I have had to repair wood like that, and eyeballing a finish isn't easy. Thank Heaven for Old English! Your chair looks great. Looks comfy, too. The worn-looking fabric is very inviting.
The color is beautiful! The repair is so professional! The light lines are annoying... maybe glue an upholstery ribbon to hide them. Your next similar project will be perfect! Thanks so much for sharing
I love your outcome. I bought a MCM chair thinking once I settled into my new place (and new colors) I'd have it reupholstered. That's until I found out how much it would cost! SO I now want to paint it. Any input on using a roller vs brush to apply?
Thank you! I’m so glad you like the outcome on this one! Ohh that MCM chair sounds like a fun project! But yes, reupholstering is expensive…and a paint to do it yourself! Painting it is a good option! I personally have only used a brush when painting chairs, but I feel like a brush would be easier to get into the tight spaces and corners than a roller would be when painting a chair. Best of luck to you on your project!
I hav painted chairs too-- mine were microfibre-- i did mix liquid wax in with the paint and h2o-- it took at least 4 coats + i sanded in between each coat too but i dont know if it was 220 grit! Plus i covered with a protect satin coat & best dang wax all from Dixie Belle. I still think yours looks good but i would consider add a few more coats to the sides & not sand too much -- up to you!😊
So the paint and wax stay on the chair? I'd think it would come off if you sat on it. That repair looks amazing. If I didn't know it was there, I'd never notice it!
Looks great. I have seen other painters mix their paint with fabric softener instead of water, and not need to sand, because the fabric remained soft. Did you think to try this?
When I’ve seen others add fabric softener, they still have had to sand. So I just skipped that part. Haha I don’t use fabric softener in my home so I didn’t feel like buying it for this. I would be curious to see if it makes any difference though.

Thank you so much!

Looks really good!
Thanks!
was it soft as before you painted the chair at the end?
It looks great
thank you!
Do you HAVE to use a wax afterward? I have plenty of regular paint/acrylics, etc..I’d like to use, not caulk ….still have to seal it?
Nice ❤

Would the wax not get on your clothes?
It will only get paint on you if you move all over while sitting down and rub yourself against the paint a lot. Haha
Old English looks a lot like Howard's Restor-a-Finish.
I personally have never gotten off on Howard’s restore a finish. Haha I like old English better.
But yeah, they probably are pretty similar.
