STORYLINE:
Twenty-two white doves were released into the New York sky Friday one for each year of the talented young woman, Aaliyah's life.
It was part of a funeral service for the R-and-B singer, who was killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas on Saturday.
A horse-drawn glass carriage brought her casket to a Manhattan church as more than a thousand fans stood outside.
Aaliyah's mother stood a few feet from the casket in tears and released a single white dove into the sky. Within seconds, another 21 doves were released.
Fans cheered in tribute as the grim mourners walked into the church. When the casket was brought out after the private service, they sang one of Aaliyah's songs -- "One in a Million."
Celebrities attending the service included rappers Busta Rhymes, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, Jay-Z and Lil' Kim; singers Gladys Knight and Usher; boxer Mike Tyson; and movie producer Joel Silver.
Aaliyah, a two-time Grammy-nominated singer, was also an up-and-coming actress whose untimely death has left the music industry in shock and in a deep state of mourning.

Sad.. Imagine how different music would be today if Biggie 2pac Aaliyah and Left Eye were still alive.. I feel like these four were crucial to hiphop and R&B because they all brought something unique and different and til this day no one has brought that same energy as them.

YES! smhI I'll NEVER forget Aaliyah's death. I was 11, it was raining. I came home from school,changed & ate sum chips. I turned on the TV & it was EVERYWHERE! I FROZE chip Midway to my mouth,I lost my appetite. I COULD NOT STOP CRYING! I was genuinely affected for sum reason.I got her last album for my bday &played that CD especially "I care 4 u" everyday that week in disbelief. My brother was like "Jordan, why r u crying? She didn't even know u exsist" I'd get so mad cry & yell "YOU DONT UNDERSTAND! SHE WAS EVERYTHING TO ME!" 😂 I wish she & everybody else never got on that plane. I wish something came up our they never finished the vid early..I miss my bae so much..😭😭😭😭😭❤️❤️

They probably had her sing something & her emotions took over her that can happen you’re trying to keep your composure it just hits you all at once and singing at anyone’s funeral can be draining, but your talking about someone she’s known through her own career and probably crossed paths through out their careers and etc you’re talking about your own peers who is around your age and should hadn’t died that so young and who’s life was cut short way too soon yes just thinking about all that probably got Monica emotions going & it just took over her .

I remember when she passed and watching this funeral on tv.😢 My step mother and older sister were in real tears 💔 like they knew her that's how much of a impact her death caused. I was around by the area that late morning working as a messenger out in the field making a couple deliveries to clients of orders of copies because l work at a Copy Center of COPYCATS on the Eastside area and others, it’s a major crowd out in front of the Manhattan Church between 83,&84 Sts. I had a hand truck of a couple boxes and some people who could be Aaliyah’s relatives of friends and say how sorry for the loss and others and then later after work l went to the memorial and it was sad too! It’s a struggle that we all have to move forward!
