if there is ever a sequel to this video, i must recommend bullet bill 3. It's one of my top 3 mario flash games of all times along with mario 63 and crossover, despite it's simple concept.
The GFX are especially amazing, specifically the ones that are based on enemies that didn't exist in original games, Like the SMB2 Koopas and other stuff feels so amazing to play in, although it does feel uncanny being able to stomp SHY GUYS!
I miss this era where people would make Mario and friends into absolute psychopaths. I still remember one video I watched where Peach and Daisy take Baby Mario and Baby Luigi out for a walk in the Mushroom, only for Michael Jackson to appear and kidnap the children. Then, Peach decides to go full on Rambo to save the kids. Or one where Luigi snaps and blows Mario's head off. A lot of it was just edgy for the sake of being edgy, or it was nothing but mindless dumb fun, but it does make me wonder how bad things would be for the Mushroom Kingdom if Mario decided to fall to the dark side? Origami King shows a level of brutality when he finishes off the Legion of Stationery. Mario grabs Colored Pencils pencil missiles and then proceeds to stab the pencil case to death. Replace Colored Pencils with an original origami boss and that's going to be a lot darker of a scenario. Maybe this is going into speculation, but maybe Mario intentionally holds back from using his full strength because he knows if he goes all out, he'll never come back and the Mushroom Kingdom be bathed in blood. It does make me wonder if Nintendo ever decides to make a T, or M rated Mario game and see how a more mature approach would go. I would be curious on how a darker and more serious Mario adventure would play out. I'll have to look into Super Mario 63. I've heard of it, it looks fun by the looks of it. And this video gets a 10/10 because you acknowledge the greatness of Yoshi! :) Thanks for showing off all these insane flash games I never heard of, as well as reminding me why I loved this edgy and dark side to Mario flash games.
Yeah while the flash mario games have their bad ones some of them are really great I wish I could say the same on the sonic RPG ones those are really bad
pretty good video that truly made me feel nostalgic looking back at these games granted there were a couple of games that I wish got included (such as mario combat and the star scramble series), but I understand there's only so much you can fit in one video, lol
3:00 i remember: a 2D platformer that is based on athletic sky stages, bomberman clones, a bullet hell, the Bullet Bill series, Super Mario Rampage, a 2D platformer fighting game (kinda like smash but as a Mario game), Super Mario 63, Super Mario Flash, a Mario & Luigi game with Wario & Waluigi, that Koopa game (first entry) and Super Mario Crossover
you forgot this one mario flash game. It was called mario combat or something similar. Mario was able to punch and kick enemies in it. It was very short and I felt like it could have had some potential.
Ah yes, I remember playing all the games you covered in the video and I'll share some more Mario Flash games I played when I was growing up: First I actually played a different version of Luigi's Revenge, this version had an opening cutscene of Peach and Mario being assassinated and Luigi flying in a plane, then after beating Bowser in the game, Luigi discovers that Mario was still alive and offs him. Super Mafia Bros. was a game about Mario having a dream about being in the mafia, killing mafia Goombas and Koopas and trying to defeat mafia Bowser, and it ends with Mario waking up from his dream, accidentally shoots Toad and proceeds to hide his body. Mario Star Scramble 2 had Mario going through different levels collecting stars. The only other thing I'll say about this game is that you couldn't jump on Goombas. Speaking of, better mention Unfair Mario too. I'm pretty sure ya'll are very much aware of this one so I won't cover it. Super Mario 3 Bounce (I think that's what it was called) had Mario constantly bouncing and having to complete an objective with the number of bounces he was able to have. Paper Mario Flash (Not sure if that was the official name) was a 2D Mario platformer done in the style of the Paper Mario games, and Mario had his iconic hammer for his attack of course. Mario Sunshine 63 was basically a poor man version of Mario 63 in how it was recreating Mario 64, this time Mario had F.L.U.D.D. on the whole game rather than him just being a power up. You gave Mario Forever a mention, so I will mention it too. Just a very cool Mario platformer game with interesting cutscenes and level design. Technically not a Flash game, just thought I'd mention it. Super Sized Mario Bros. was clearly a joke game about Mario eating so much McDonald's that he became obese, he can easily defeat Goombas, can't jump, can't fall off cliffs, can destroy Warp Pipes. Mario then enters McDonald's to face Obese Bowser, only for the bridge to break killing Mario and ending the game. And last but not least, Super Smash Flash 1 and 2. Enough said. I played more Mario flash games, but those were the ones I could remember off of my head since I played those the most. Now if Demeech really wants to hit us in the late 2000's-early 2010's nostalgia, covering classic Mario RUclips videos would also be a great topic.
When you were bringing up about playing a Mario game where Mario was the villain, I was expecting the Koopa's Revenge series to be mentioned instead of Donkey Kong Junior.
A few games I remember playing were Mario Racing Tournament, A Koopa's Revenge, a Mario Pac-Man type game, and Super Mario Sunshine 128 (which is a sorta predecessor of SM63) 63 and Crossover are still goats
Super Mario Flash 2 Was Mario Maker before mario maker had a lot of fun with the level editor! Flash 3 was even better Super Mario Crossover i had a lot of fun playing as Link but also i just liked goofing around in hard mode and Nowadays thanks to mods i can play as myself XD SM63 Yeah, same stuff, Its use of Yoshi's island GFX combined with Mario and Luigi sprites, Ah man that's just a recipe for nostalgia! Another cool flash game is Kastle Koins which isn't a Mario Flash game but it's Mario Inspired and I also recommend that one! For any of you curious how can you still play these? It's via a program named Flashpoint!
Fun Fact: There is a Super Mario 63 fan sequel and fan remake in the works! They're called Super Mario 127 and Super Mario 63 Redux respectively, and both have the blessing of Runouw, the creator of SM63! The Super Mario Flash games are also getting fan-made spiritual successors, called Super Mario Construct and Yoshi's Fabrication Station, both made by the same team, though sadly they don't have the blessing of Poueptu, the Original Creator of the SMF games, as we don't know if they're even still alive.
I remember playing Mario Crossover 9 years ago way back in 2014. My brother and I had a blast playing this game, and I also found it cool that you were able to change the graphical art style from each game. I have a lot of memories with this game and other flash games as well. Believe it or not, this is how I first found out about Mario games before knowing Nintendo and stuff. It was Mario Flash and the Star Scramble series. Just watching this video made me feel so nostalgic, and I enjoyed it too as well. I hope these fan games can live up to its prime in the future! ❤
Flash games introduced me to video games as a whole. I even played mario 63 before I played mario 64 DS! Also, I was never able to beat Super Mario Flash cuz it was a very hard game.
I can’t help but feel like nostalgia played too much of a factor with the ranking of 63 under crossover. I think 63 is much more high quality, but they’re both cool.
Im not sure if it was technically flash, but I remember Super Mario Bros X was legit the best mario game i played online. Polished visuals, own campaign, various powers and you got to play as link. Sad to see it wasnt brought up because SMBX was gold
I played Super Mario Flash back when I used to be in school, NSMB Flash was best remembered for its remix of the overworld theme, I never tried out SMB Flash 2, I remember bits of The Barney Bunch more than I did the shitty edgy Mario Flash 2 (both versions), I never played Super Mario Rampage, Luigi's Revenge looks surprisingly better and performs nicer but I never played it, I never played the flash version of the Donkey Kong arcade, Jumpman Returns is so cool (feels weird to call Mario as Jumpman nowadays lol), I remember Classic Mario Bros being okay at best (the new sprites are cool), Super Mario 63 is great, and so is SMB Crossover. Also Bloxorz gang where you at?
Seems you ran Super Mario 63 with an outdated version of Ruffle, maklng the text nearly unreadable. They have since fixed this in newer versions of Ruffle.
My honorable mentions: Bullet Bill 1, 2, & 3 Mario Combat Megaman vs Metroid (I know, it's not a Mario game, however the Super Mario Crossover section in this video reminded me of this game)
I remember as a kid, I played a Flash game called "Monolith Mario" or something like that on MaxGames. It was my first exposure to the Super Mario Bros. World music, sound effects and art style. Unfortunately, I never beat the sixth level because it seemed to be either unfinished or at the end of a demo. Ah Flash games. What a time to have been alive!😊 Edit: Okay, Monolith Mario World 2 was what it was called! 😂
I have no shame in admiting I used to believe that Donkey Kong II was a real, official game. So it was weird that when everybody said "the Donkey kobg sequel", they only refered to Donkey Knog Jr.
i did play one really good flash game that's super underrated: mario kombat yeah it's another one of those "make popular characters super evil for no reason because it's edgy" vibe of the 2000s, but the gameplay sure feels rewarding, the platforming might be a little stiff, but the combat goes hard, and the fight with bowser is a legit challenge
I know A Koopa’s Revenge 2 looks really dumb, but it’s a pretty good 2d platformer. The characters all play how you’d expect, but with the addition of a spin move akin to the blue shell. One more thing, there are a ton of secrets in the game, like ! switches and permanent power up’s.
I disagree with the up arrow being a bad button for jumping. I actually like that better than space for games where you already control things with the arrow keys. I wish you'd have mentioned that in SM Flash and Flash 2 if you get hit no matter in what form, you get downgraded back to small Mario. Also the garbage hitboxes is SM Flash V2 Valley. You mentioned the shortness of Luigi's revenge but not SM Flash 2 which is equally short. I don't get the hate Toad gets. Only thing I dislike about Toads is their voices. I'm glad you mentioned the ability to remap controls in MSB Crossover because using Z and X is quite uncomfortable in QWERTZ keyboards Thanks for this video, time for a round of nostalgia :) PS: How did you miss Koopa's Revenge?
No offense, but it’s pretty weird how you haven’t covered Koopa’s Revenge 2 of all games on here. I haven’t played through the whole thing myself, but trust me, that game is something else. (Unless you already did a retrospective on it.)
Despite being a playstation user back then I also played good amount of mario flash games, I don't remember most of them but defenitley the ones who stick the most for me are mario 63, crossover 3 and mario combat and the latter did got my intrest to more combat orianted games especially fighting games. But I will say one thing that most of the mario flash games them I had issues is the controls they defenitley feel to slippery or too stiff for my liking, which why back then I really dislike koopa's revenge despite loving the level design. I am not gonna give a rank rn now but in general they are quite a nostalgia for me even when I got myself a nintendo console
Super Mario 63, even to this day, is one of the greatest flash games ever.
Facts
I’ll never forget it
One of the best games ever
It’s actually getting a remake
Damn straight! 👍🏻
Man this takes me back.
if there is ever a sequel to this video, i must recommend bullet bill 3. It's one of my top 3 mario flash games of all times along with mario 63 and crossover, despite it's simple concept.
And combat mario is a guilty pleasure of mine
@@natepion8449 Bro I FUCKING love mario combat really helps me out with my anger issues..
I only really played the first 2 bullet bill games
Just from the thumbnail, you can tell this gonna be very INSANE
The Mario Star Scramble games and Mario Combat were also pretty good.
I remember Mario Combat! I liken the taste of Atomic Fireballs to the boss battle with Bowser. I guess because I discovered both around the same time🤗
I still play Super Mario Crossover to this day so yeah.. I think at least that one was good. Looking forward to the video!
The GFX are especially amazing, specifically the ones that are based on enemies that didn't exist in original games, Like the SMB2 Koopas and other stuff

Thanks for the shoutout in the description! I'm glad that I was inspired for you to make this video.
Thanks for the idea!

The mario star scramble games were some of my favorites back in the day, surprised to not see it on here but great video regardless
You definitely deserve more subs you make great vids
We can just agree that Z should be default jump button in 2d games
a koopa’s revenge 2 is great. you play as a koopa troopa (or goomba, or shy guy) and save bowser from an evil Mario.
A few games I remember playing were Mario Racing Tournament, A Koopa's Revenge, a Mario Pac-Man type game, and Super Mario Sunshine 128 (which is a sorta predecessor of SM63)
