    The Hawaiian islands are one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States. However, shore fishing can be challenging due to snaggy reefs, constant trade winds, beach crowds, and surf. However, there is an overlooked and easy freshwater fishery perfect for a family with kids or for the passionate angler looking to burn a few hours. Tilapia, a species of cichlid, have been widely introduced into Hawaii's freshwater lakes and ponds are easily caught using lures and bait. In this video I show you the basics of Tilapia fishing.

    Great vid.
    When it comes to water-quality survivability, tilapia are on one extreme, and Grayling are on the other extreme. Both are fun fish, beautiful, and a joy to catch.

    Nice! The bamboo pole comment makes me think of using a stick and line to catch yellow perch off the dock as a kid.

    Good ole black and gold panther Martin. I’ve caught many different species with those. Smallmouth bass seem to love them.

    That was the first fish I ever caught!
    My dad used to take me to Alamoana and we'd fish with bamboo poles, bobber and bread. :) Always a good time.

    I got to watch a video yesterday from FL. it was an excotic invasive spieces tournament in the everglases. put on by the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians Fish and Wildlife Department in Miami FL to bring awareness of and to get rid of as many invasive species as possible in the Everglades. A combined total of 2197lbs of fish were removed by all the participants. Oscars, mayan ciclids.

    Nice vid! Never knew you could catch them on a spinner?? We used to catch them on a bobber using bread.

    Being born and raised in Hawaii, at least when I lived there, we don't eat that fish. Kinda like alaskan's won't eat pinks.

    good stuff man, how do you travel with your fishing gear, are you allowed to bring spinners n hooks n all that on a plane?

    • @spiltmilt
      @spiltmilt  2 года назад +3

      I use 3 or 4 piece travel rods in tubes in my checked luggage. I also put all my fishing tackle in a checked bag. I've tried bringing tackle through on checked bags and although I've never had it taken its certainly led to some conversations with TSA that were stressful.

      Haven't found a great brand yet. I invested in a couple pairs of Costa's and they both fell apart within a year. I do recommend polarized glasses though no matter what brand you go with.

      Sadly no, the water is too polluted. Even at restaurants there is hesitation to order it even if it came from a farm somewhere else.

    Is this trip part of your planned fishing tour or just a vacation with some fishing in it?

    • @spiltmilt
      @spiltmilt  2 года назад +3

      Just a needed break for my wife and I. We've had some rough months dealing with health issues and needed to get away. But we both love to fish so its always a part of our vacations.
