My father fought with French Foreign Legion in Indochina War.....He survived......I still have the maroon beret with Silver Clasp.....& many photos....of him in Hanoi & Haiphong...early 1950s....

Such an interesting battle. On the French side you had German veterans of WW2 in the Legion fighting alongside Moroccans, Algerians, Senegalese, and some local Vietnamese drafted to fight for France.
They were all French by blood spilled and 90% of them where born in France
Let's not forget the thousands of french nationals who fought and died there as well...
70% of French Foreign Legion was German. And Legion was main contingent of French forces. Also die hard French volunteers, many of whom had been Vichy nationalist during WW2.@@NKWittmann

The visual quality is pretty good for a 1992 film
it's understandable, nowaday a hell lot of films were upscaled and enhanced with their physical record. Like Stalingrad 1949, or Liberation 1973, Tora Tora Tora,...Some are completely destroyed and unable to recover , like all of Vietnamese old movies (because they saved them by VHS or kept the physical record at terrible condition, such a fuckin dumbass).

Hell yeah! Great video comrade! Best respect from Vietnam! The main topic on this video is not focused so much to our victory! But badly during history! France's elite troop parachutist was sent a lot to Dien Bien Phu, and couldn't hold it or turn the table in this battle because our genius general set up and did that!

mainly because of numbers, vietnamese troops were under equiped, poorly trained and fed but there were a ton of them, if france had as much troops vietnam had on the territory, vietnam would have lost
The viet minh held the high ground all around Dien Bien Phu and won mainly because of their artillery. French generals didn't think they could sustain their artillery fire while carrying the shells through the jungle on foot... this battle was a furious one but there were many other legendary feats during this war, Dien Bien Phu stays iconic because it encapsulates the image of the entire war : human wave tactics versus elite paratroops and air support, the viet minh's logistical prowess through forced labor, hostile terrain and climate, fighters from a lot of different backgrounds.
Also the viet were backed by the russian,chinese and even the the CIA at the beginning! has we ay in France...USA our oldest enemy!
