(I m french). Just few things about ww1 from my family :
One thing my grand grandfather told us is that while charging, if you heard the shot, it s because it wasn t for you.
He also told us they were fighting the enemy, but at the same time, exchanged food many times and used to go search water a the same locations, at the same time and not shooting.
