While an influencer is just an online personality that has made a name for themselves through social media. Sam Mute to my understanding, the point she was trying to make is that not everyone can afford a medical mask, so they’re using bandanas to cover their faces to protect from COVID. Wearing a bandana over the face is often perceived by police as being a sign that a person is gang-affiliated. So a person with no gang affiliation whatsoever can just be trying to protect themselves from COVID, a policeman could see that as a gang member, think they’re in danger and then hurt or kill that person out of that fear even though there was no actual danger. Police would very likely not perceive a white person wearing a bandana the same way.

@@bigfan4453 No offense taken, it's a valid question. Makeup is something lot of people use to escape, express themselves, and just relax. I know personally I wasn't emotionally prepared to see something potentially triggering and felt a little blindsided. Is it in poor taste? Yes, but I can get past that. However, what makes me sick to my stomach is how this situation was handled. Victim blaming is already very prevalent. Like, stupid toxic prevalent to just about anyone who speaks about it in the everyday setting. I could go further into this, but it's not really necessary or relevant. It is however defeating and emotionally draining. So, to see just how out of touch and blatantly manipulative James was being in this scenario is flat out disgusting. And I'm not going to lie, a little soul crushing. Also, I couldn't help but think that this is just another tool my abuser will use when another girl inevitably comes forward. I can already hear it now, "Those aren't even real bruises, it's just makeup." And people still believe him, despite being charged for domestic assault three times. I don't want nor need to be reminded of this when I go online to look at makeup looks, or watch RUclips drama. I hope this didn't come off as rude, that really wasn't my intention.

The term INFLUENCER means that you have a SPHERE of INFLUENCE- it’s so important to be conscious of your sphere, who you impact, how people are affected by TRENDS. Trends are QUICK fixes, FAST MONEY. That’s why trends are so toxic. Following it for the sake of being another part of the crowd; or even worse for the sake of some coin - it’s really sad and unfortunate. It’s up for the smart people of the world to choose their sphere of influence and I’m happy there are women like you and Kenya who spit the cold hard facts and enable US to pick who we want to be influenced by ✨

You are preaching the gospel. As far as the mugshot shit: I wanna add that it's also triggering to people who have been incarcerated as well. My mother is a felon. These influencers can never imagine the horrors of prison. Ma has PTSD from it, and after hearing her story, I don't understand how anyone coming out of that wouldn't have at least a form of it. She was beaten, starved, and abused by the guards. Left in a cold concrete cell (solitary confinement) without a blanket during the winter. They'd "forget" to feed her. She slept on a metal slab with no pillow. And before her incarceration, she was also a domestic abuse victim. So, fuck these influencers. Straight up: fuck them.

  • @JohnnyPeguero

A point that seems to not CONNECT in these influencers’ mind is that this trend is a form of glamorizing theses injuries. Movies and TV can do it because we see the violence, we see the hate, we see context/story. This trend is literally unprovoked, with no motivation. How can you stand there with a black eye and cuts on your face and still manage to pose and get the right angles? This isn’t even mentioning the ASSUMPTION that these influencers have about mugshots. The only time you take a mugshot with these wounds are if you got in a fight or there was police violence involved. It’s a bad look on these influencers and a lot of them need to stop acting like fools.
