There are videos of happy caracals out there with their owners, they don't just hiss when to communicate they make a lot of other sounds, the owner of this channel is just antagonizing their caracal for money and views.

I know people are saying that caracals can only hiss so this cat isn't necessarily happy, by this is just blatantly untrue. Caracals can produce a range of vocalizations, and even if they couldn't, the body language more than gives away the cats emotions. The tucked tail and raised posture is a confident but frustrated cat. See how it growls even when the food is given? It is very clearly telling the human to go away, that it doesn't want to be near anyone while eating. As much as the floppa memes are funny, caracals and servals are wild animals. They are not even remotely social animals. The ancestor of the domestic cat, the African wildcat, will sometimes come near human settlements to hunt, showing that the potential for domestication is there. Caracals do not show this. These are solitary, wild animals, that do not belong in peoples houses no matter how much they look like cats. An animal like this is not only liable to spend much of its life stressed in captivity, but pose a real danger to the pets and people in a household. These are powerful cats that can send you to the hospital over a misunderstanding, and potentially kill a dog and even a baby or young child if provoked. There exists a wolf and wildcat you can have in your home, and it's called a dog and a cat. At first I thought Pumba hissing and aggressive looking behavior was normal for those "cats" and while it is and it made me think that maybe I was in the wrong for thinking this was weird I eventually found other people videos where they have the same "pet" and they are less annoyed than this one, which in the end made me realize how this isn't exactly safe and not fully domesticated. While it's true they do hiss and all of that they never do it as much if they are truly used to you, there's no video of Pumba being not aggressive towards you. I'm not saying Pumba is going to attack, but he wouldn't be so defensive 24/7 if he was really used to your presence, I can't understand how people don't question it and I'm not someone who often goes and complain about what people do with pets that aren't actually pets neither I tend to adress something without the context, but seeing other people with this animal as pet I can't really say this is how he would behave if he was actually domesticated unless you only purposely share videos of Pumba hissing.

Large cats can't be domesticated properly, with probably a few exceptions like cheetahs, which behave non-aggressively like domestic animals when raised in captivity, but not wide spread due to high upkeep requirements.
Even if its not angry, that certainly is an unpleasant pet. Imagine having a big bear that is constantly looking like its warning you to back off or else its going to grab, kill and eat you alive even if it wouldn't

servals and caracals communicate mainly with hissing. It’s hard to tell their mood but the serval at the zoo I work at has this thing where during feeding time, he hisses while doing a weird jog in place thing so that’s how we know he’s just excited
