    The finale felt really cliffhangy but, if you think it twice, it actually answered most of the big questions of the plot that have been developing through the season: is Jinx too far gone? There will be a way to find peace or will it be war? I think they pretty much gave response to those here.

    • @lachlanhudson7404
      @lachlanhudson7404 Год назад +3

      Yeah, i remember commenting with someone else who felt that this was just a dumb cliffhanger. But if you think about it, this is a complete story that leaves more to be told in the future. Season 1 was about progress vs people and will Powder choose for herself who she is rather than letting Silco or Vi tell her who she is. She choose for herself to be Jinx in the end and that is a beautiful end to this season. Her arc is complete and now we get to explore the Piltover Civil War and Noxus getting involved.

    What we know about season 2 is that it's not coming for 2022.
    Silco was dead either way. Sevika picked Silco over Finn because he was still the best choice for Zaun. Now tell her Silco threw Zaun away for Jinx... He was a doomed man.
    There is a cliffhanger but every character arc is complete.
    Marcus died. He won't have to care about following directives to keep his daughter safe anymore. She's now an orphan, but alive.
    Silco reached the end of his revolt with an offer for the independence of the nation of Zaun. He also finally understood why Vander decided to abandon their dream over two little girls. He became that man he once hated and for the same reasons.
    Jinx accepted to be Jinx all the way.
    Viktor stepped back after realizing he went too far and now wants the hexcore to be destroyed, even if it is a death sentence for him.
    Jayce finally stopped giving a sh** about what everyone think about him.
    Vi failed to bring her sister back.
    Heimerdinger finally realize how disconnected he was about the lower city and decided to go fix things there.
    Mel decided to reject her mother's way of achieving power and chose peace.
    Mel's mother failed to bring her daughter back or to have her commit into making weapons.
    Ekko will develop a better place in the lower city.
    Caitlyn managed to close her investigation and bring the result to the council.
    Sevika's revolt failed as the leader died. The whole operation is a failure.
    As oppose to the usual cliffhangers which create a hole in the story arcs and for which an answer is required in order to close the story, this one is more in our head with us trying to figure out what the new arcs will be. The current story is complete. All answers were given. Had Arcane only had a single season, it would still be a nice story with a beginning and an end. Something the classic cliffhanger don't provide.

    regarding the question of why they wanted control of the underground.
    Most of the mining and manufacturing facilities are in the underground, which is also one of the causes of the toxic fumes, that provides the materials needed by piltover. I guess you could say that if zaun becomes independent they will have to pay more for the materials that they usually get for cheap. Greed is a hell of a drug.

      It's very real world, there are a lot of reasons why you don't want to give up your land. Zaun could be a hostile country against Piltover if they are independent, you lose a lot of expansion opportunity on the other side of Zaun and if you easily give out freedom to a state, other parts of piltover are going to ask for independence as well.

      I think Silco is actually added, because he is second half of WARWICK :v (maybe not true), but it would be "funny" if
      Vander+ Silco
      =>
      Warwick
      Also"main goal" of Arcane was clarifying story to LoL players about Vi Jinx Caitlyn conflict, so it wasn't cliffhanger, but smart "reset" that (hopefully) gonna make sense with development/next "champions characters" story background in lore
      ==>
      I am impressed, because i know original ones from 11 years ago, and they slightly (some argue today that a lot)change some things about game lore and add HEXTEF but they still manage delivering "respectful adaptation" to "both sources" with Arcane and much more
      Just great/smart/logic show

      @@RelaxwithJC Silco wanted Dangerous Freedom and rejected "safe" slavery, Vander gave up on the dream of freedom in exchange for security.
      "Those who would give up a little essential liberty in exchange for security, deserve neither, and will lose both." -Ben Franklin
      The base violence necessary for change, that was ALL Silco was going for, as little violence as possible so long as it accomplished his goal of freedom for the Undercity. Many people think Silco was fighting for "HIS" respect or "HIS" Pride, but he wasn't (he uses the same words and same reasoning for the same goal as Vi), Silco was willing to trade away his life to achieve this goal, so long as it achieved his goal. Unfortunately, Vi betrayed Jinx to the Council, and for that Jayce asked for Jinx's head as a condition to balm the ego of the topsiders, even though Jayce's epiphany ONLY happened due to Silco and Jinx's actions. Jinx had never betrayed Silco, so Silco's Morals and Ethics would not permit him to betray her, this merely increased the Base violence needed for the desired change. When Silco died, it further increased that base violence. Jinx delivered that violence at the end of season 1.
      "the thing about monkey bars is, in order to grab the third rung, you have to let go of the first rung" -WiseGuy
      Vander was unable to let go of the first rung, so he was stuck on the slavery side of the monkey bars. His best idea was to submit to prison unjustly and leave his children without a guardian.

      @Aceries_ 2 года назад +10

      I think you don't give Silco enough slack, but I understand why a lot of people don't. He isn't ethical, he isn't doing things the way Vander would. But how else did they have power? You saw yourself that for years Heimerdinger helped the council remain apathetic towards progress, and that included Zaun. While his means weren't exactly wholesome, Silco was doing what he could with what power he had (which wasn't physical power like Vander had) to survive and help Zaunites survive. He didn't employ children because he wanted to. He didn't create Shimmer because he wanted to. He didn't kill Vander because he wanted to. He did it to survive and help others survive.
      We should hate the circumstances that put them in this kind of predicament. Its the same thing we learn in Education. We don't ask "what's wrong with you" when we're trying to connect with a student. We ask "what happened to you" and go from there.

    • @Aceries_
      @Aceries_ 2 года назад +4

      Also, refer back to Viktor. Initially when he was discussing with Jayce on what to do about weaponizing hextech. He was adamant that "there is always a choice." Once Viktor got a glimpse of how close his own death was, he went back to Singed and said "I understand now". He understands why the ends justify the means, where the ends aren't so pretty and the means is literal survival.
      Sometimes we judge the means in the pretext of a perfect world where choices are black and white, pretty and tied up with a bow. This show is meant to challenge that.

    (15:24) Having a city depending on yours is good for you financially. Everything they buy is up to you to provide, you choose the prices, so basically the councilors are revolted by the independence of the underground city because they are losing money. Didn't you see the old man mumbling when Jayce said that hextech activities should be stopped until they recover the gem that Jynx stole? Because they put their personal interests ahead of even the safety of the city. Jayce makes some mistakes early on in the show but he ultimately did one thing right, which Heimer hadn't been able to do for the down town all the time he was in the council.

    The Gauntlets were made for miners.
    The shield is to protect from cave ins, it activates when you block.
    The figjt with Sevika was the first time Vi ever blocked, properly blocked, since the show began.

    The shield was created due to Vi raising her arms above her head. Remember the gauntlets were made to be used in the mines to keep the miners safe. If there is ever a collapse in the mine a worker can raise their arms to protect themselves from the rocks due to the shield.

      It is also symbolic of Vi's character growth. Throughout the show you get multiple references to how Vi blocks with her face, that she is all aggression and no defense, not only in the way she fights but also in the way she approaches problems in general. In the fight scene with Sevika (with the help of Vander) we finally see her go from someone out for revenge to a protector of the people. She stops trying to punch her problems away and tries to defend for once.

    I personally loved episode 9. Probably my favorite. Season 1 is Jinx's story, the story of how Powder becomes Jinx. So I'm not for the cliffhanger, because on that aspect, the main plot is wrapped up.
    The tea party, despite being extremely stressful, is so heavy story-wise that it's just my favorite scene of the show. Vi finally understanding the extend of her sister's mental state (with the Mylo and Claggor dolls, and all hers and Vander's personal belongings), Silco establishing his relationship with Jinx, the sisters' confrontation, and of course, Jinx's choice. She kidnapped them all so she could choose between Silco and Vi, and ultimately, she ends up with neither. She chose to save her sister instead of her father, but she chose to be a daughter instead of a sister. And once again, she jinxes everything by firing that rocket (although tbf, that peace was long overdue. It was already too late).

    If there wasnt a season 2, this says it all.
    Even though we might want it, we really wouldnt really need more.
    Since there WILL be a season two, its a massive cliffhanger but also a perfect place to pause the story, cuz this changes *everything,* to NOT take a break here would require another 9 episodes.

    The bubble shield Vi gets vs. Sevika is similar to Jayce's vs. the Chemguards on the bridge. Pretty cool, even if minor, foreshadowing.
    Since the gloves are made for mining the fissures, it makes sense there'd be a way to defend yourself in case of a collapse--Vi just didn't know that was a feature.
    While it's easy to praise the writing, the pacing, the characters and the animation--virtually everything about the show, really, it's clearly a passion project--rarely do shows do so well with the attention-to-detail that's required to maintain the consistency of your in-universe rules. Even the smallest details can matter.

    While the main theme of the season seems to be the battle for the soul of Powder/Jinx, there are so many other powerful themes and arcs…. Family, fatherhood, legacy, change, regret…. The similarities between Vander and Silco are chilling and always brings into focus just how fantastically written this show is.
    Silco accuses Vander of losing his nerve to protect his kids in Episode 3. Yet by Episode 9, Jayce has offered him everything he could have ever wanted, but at a cost too high for him to pay by requiring Jinx in exchange. In that moment, he understands why Vander changed the way he did.
    Also, from Silco’s perspective, this series is just one problem/headache after another. Once he takes control of the undercoty, he comes face-to-face with the responsibility of what that really means. In that regard, he’s a mirror to Jayce who undergoes a similar transformation.
    I really hope Season 2 can live up to this one. Riot set such a high bar that I don’t know if they’ll be able to live up to it in the future.

    In my opinion, reading the certain comments made your experience somewhat worse than if you hadn’t read your comments. They were basically giving you guys soft spoilers or they were setting you up with expectations that didn’t necessarily gel well with what eventually ended up happening. It seemed like you guys were still enjoying the show regardless until the last episode where the cliffhanger and unexpected things happening made you feel some type of way.
    Note: on the Jinx fakeout with Caitlyn’s head being on the platter, that was honestly done really well to the point where almost everybody that watched this show gets tricked by it, either thinking it’s her head on the platter or some other body part. For maybe why it didn’t really get you, I think you were focusing on something else and realized late that Caitlyn was the most likely victim. For me personally, a League player that already knew Caitlyn would most likely survive, I still had to hold my breath because I wasn’t sure if Riot was going to kill one of the ‘playable characters’ off early to set the mood for the universe. I think me realizing when Jinx left the table that she could bring back Caitlyn’s dead body allowed the idea to really marinate in my head lol
    But yeah, I really enjoyed your reactions! Glad you guys chose this show to react to!

    Thinking about it VI did create Jinx , taking her on jobs , witnessing violence , shunning her straight after Vanders end.
    I expect War in season 2 and Mels mum to be a big problem.
    My fave Characters Ekko, Jinx , Vi all survived . Yay ..
    I actually liked Silco , Jace and Mel but they had a good arc .
    This show is now firmly my fave Animated Netflix show, ( ahead of Dragon prince and Love death and Robots, and DOTA , Kippo and Jurassic Park ) .
    In my top 10 animated shows of all time .
    Roll on season 2 ..
    Now to finish Pacific Rim , Masters of the universe ( which grew on me despite the hate it gets ) , Voltron and start Castlevania .

    For a while now, we've watched Jinx struggle with her madness and identity; she's struggled to choose between Powder or Jinx, between returning to Vi or staying with Silco.
    When Silco points the gun at Vi, Jinx chooses to be Powder again, and kills him. But then she's immediately regretful, and Silco tells her that he never would have given her up and that she's perfect.
    After that...Jinx gives up. You can see the resignation in her eyes, her expression, and her body language. It turns out that Mylo was right: she's a jinx.
    So be it. If Jinx is going to be bad luck, then she decides she'll be the worst bad luck possible.
    No truce. No negotiations. No peace.
    Let chaos reign; let it all burn. War is here...

      I really have a hard time understanding why people are calling the first two episodes "weaker". They aren't at all. They have the same level of artistry, character development, storytelling and world building (not to mention the details) as the rest of the show. It's just that they are slower paced and less dramatic. But that's not weak, just different.

    I think this ending is pretty much perfect though. It's kept so personal around the characters, mostly Vi, Jinx, Silco, cait, even Jayce. I think that's way more emotionally impactful than a huge battle would've been. if it ended just a second or a minute later the focus is taken away from Jinx and shifted to the bigger picture and either we still don't know who lives or again, we're thinking about them rather than the actual focal point on season 1.

      @@Lusor_Caterpillar I get you sympathize with Silco but trying to downplay how much of monster he is makes it look like you didn’t really get the point and only really cared about Silco and Jinx’s side of the story. There wasn’t going to be any peace even if Silco wasn’t shot. The price for peace was Jinx and he wasn’t willing to pay that price. There is no obligation to like Silco. He has no problem manipulating, using, and murdering children. The end doesn’t justify the means if you’re willing to hurt children to reach your goals. He took a little girl and cultivated her inner monster into a mass murderer with a penchant for explosives. He made a teenager take drugs to become his personal killing tool. He has a shimmer production facility that exclusively uses children as the laborers. He has a large portion of the undercity addicted to shimmer to the point where they will do anything for him. Just because he is a loving father doesn’t make him a good one. Just because intentions are good at heart doesn’t diminish all of the monstrous things he has done in his life. Even his final act as a loving father to sacrifice his own life to reassure Jinx that she is on the right path is horrible. She decides to blow up the council which is going to lead to war that’ll be much more devastating than the revolution Vander and Silco were a part of. The story is not nearly as one sided as you are trying to make it.

He was a monster that turned human in the end, while Jinx is the reverse, a poor little girl turned into a monster.
