    "We used to play this game where we would pretend we were bigger and scarier monsters... I'm a slug monster with venom for ooze, well I'm a slug eating crab with razor spikes... then she'd get scared and I didn't want her to cry and wake up our parents, so I would pretend to chase my own monsters away..."
    Then, in this episode, when Jinx puts the gun in Vi's hands... "Make her go away. Please?"
    Caitlyn is the monster Vi created. Little sister is scared, and asks big sister to chase away the scary monster. Sadly, Vi didn't understand what Jinx was saying. Which isn't a knock on Vi. She'd need to be psychic to get that, and Vi is actually very bad at social stuff when it doesn't go exactly the way she expects.

      @@Hohum37 well... As I think Silco is correct in that Vi would be unable to accept her sister as she really is, even temporarily, not much. But that's a separate issue. Showing she understood the conversation would have helped.

    • @Hohum37
      @Hohum37 2 года назад

      @@th3voice I think you are conflating acceptance with love, and throwing both out at the same time. Vi clearly loves her sister, even knowing she is a mass murderer - that doesn't mean she accepts her behaviour. Vi is honest when she says they are still sisters. However, what could she say in that moment that would help? She's just been asked to kill an innocent human being in order to "have Powder back" (something Jinx says, which even Jinx herself pretty obviously doesn't believe - she's testing Vi). Vi is clearly going to say can't do that. What she does say is pretty good: "We can go away together" - but circumstances and Silco's poisonous words steal that opportunity away.
      The best, most loving thing for Jinx's mental health, isn't to accept her clearly aberrant behaviour. It's to get her away from awful influences like Silco, for a start. We've no indication if useful psychiatric help exists in this world, so it would be tough, perhaps impossible to rehabilitate her - but that would be something for the writers to struggle with - I don't have a crystal ball on that. It might make for compelling viewing though.

    • @th3voice
      @th3voice 2 года назад +3

      @@Hohum37 There's a reason it's not recommended for family to treat addiction or mental illness... because they can't meet the person where they ARE and guide them to where they need to get to, nor do they have the clearest and most unbiased view of where their family member needs to get to in the first place. Vi is the wrong person for the job, especially she way she is now, a few days after her jailbreak and the preceding seven(?) year incarceration.
      The problem isn't any "honeyed words", it's that Silco is largely correct. He's far better at honeyed words, when that's what he's trying. The "we can escape" thing is fine, probably the best thing she could do, but she wrecks it by demonstrating that she doesn't understand the problem. "You'll never have to see him again"... well as it happens, it's Caitlyn that Jinx wants to escape from. It's her she perceives as a threat (a monster, in fact).
      I also think you're incorrect in saying Jinx is testing Vi, saying she'll bring Powder back if she kills Caitlyn. She WANTS to believe it. She's almost convinced herself that she can find a way. That's the change that takes place when she kills Silco... accidentally, as it happens. She realises that she is herself, not two people wearing one body, and that neither of their childhoods will ever return. She becomes the second person of the show to take a breath and accept that at this time, the time is neither the past nor the future. Vi hasn't gotten there yet. She might in s2, I guess.

    • @Hohum37
      @Hohum37 2 года назад

      @@th3voice Who else is available to "treat" Jinx. No psychiatrists, no care system, the options are Vi or Silco or prison. Vi is sub-optimal, Silco glories in her being a monster, prison doesn't seem a great choice.
      Silco is not correct, and he's literally the worst person for Jinx. He's making things up on the spot that are believable to a fragile mind in order to keep Jinx. His idea of caring for her is to support her monstrous tendencies. As soon as he found out her sister is alive, who she has been craving contact with - he tries to kill her. He doesn't want the best for her, he wants her to be a perfect monster - which, I suppose, is his version of the best.
      I'm not suggesting Jinx can ever be Powder again - she's changed, and they aren't separate personalities. But she could be a less murdery version of herself.

    I think the thing that many people miss in this scene is that there was NEVER a choice between Jinx and Powder. It was a test, she desperately wanted Vi to accept her for who SHE chose to be which is Jinx. She just wanted acceptance. Vi Accepts powder and rejects Jinx, and this drives her distress in the situation. The sad thing about the story is that the only person to ever unconditionally love and accept her was Silco.

    I found Tiny's reaction to the shark weapon kind of interesting here. At first she's smiling, almost excited to see it -- I suppose not realizing what it is exactly or what it will do.
    And at that point I thought to myself -- give it a moment until you see what she plans to do with it, you probably won't be smiling.
    And a couple of seconds later it hits her, and she's covering her mouth, wondering if everyone will be obliterated.

    I wholeheartedly recommend watching the "Enemy" music video now. It's up to the individual as to whether or not they want to consider it canon, but in my mind, there are elements that should be. Stuff that further delves into the relationship between some of these characters, and as a result expands on the emotional impact of certain moments from Arcane when viewed in retrospect.

  • @DarkRaven4649
    @DarkRaven4649 2 года назад +38

    I don't think this show ends on a cliffhanger. The lynchpin of the story is the relationship between Vi and Jinx, and the secondary one about whether Piltover and Zaun can achieve peace or not. A third (or second, depending on where you rank the Zaun/Piltover conflict) is Jayce and Viktor, and whether they will become corrupted by power or not. Everything that happens around these conflicts is basically just window dressing, and so, the ending is perfect: Jayce and Viktor manage to steer back on the right path, Mel rejects her family, Jinx and Vi cannot reconcile. And there can be no peace. The only things which are left hanging is stuff like Noxus, Heimerdinger and Ekko, and other by-plots which even as they are introduced is clearly setup for Season 2 rather than expected to be resolved in Season 1.
    Obviously, we're still left wondering if Jayce, Mel and Viktor survived, and how this will impact them, but that's not actually important to their story. All the arcs set up for them are finished. It's an open ending, but it's not a cliffhanger.

    • @bridgethaines7127
      @bridgethaines7127 2 года назад +4

      I think the actual lynchpin of the series is Jinx choosing for herself, who she is. All her life she's just molded herself through the eyes of those she was so traumatically bonded and attached to. Plagued by the voices in her head telling her things, swaying her, the scratchy overlays on her vision telling her what is good or evil. In the end, after Silco dies, the voices are silent, the scratches are gone, and she makes her own choice to be Jinx instead of Powder.

    • @Mi_Z
      @Mi_Z 2 года назад +5

      @@bridgethaines7127 I think it's more a realization that she is who she is. There was never an option to be 'Powder' again. One can't magically become who they were as a child. But they can eventually accept who they are now in the present.

      someone mentioned something different in another react series and I tend to agree here. the main line is the arcane (hence the name) and if the arcane can and will be used for the better of the peope or if it will be weaponized. the season ends after Jinx finished the weapon for silco (he made it a shark, one of silcos fav animals with a glowing eye to resemble him as well) and choose to also use the weapon after jinx realized that silco loved her the way she is, just as she always wanted for Vi to be. but you made some solid points as well

      Dude, why are you picturing Jinx and Powder as different people?
      Jinx and Powder are the same person, so literally Powder was the name she used as a child. After Episode 3, she decides to be Jinx.
      As her sister said, "you're a Jinx."
      They keep saying this in the last 6 episodes. As you said, Jinx cannot kill Powder because Powder is Jinx and Jinx is Powder. Violet can't accept who her sister has become, so she chooses to get involved in some bullshit about bringing her sister back.
      She thinks she's been brainwashed by silco.
      Accidentally killed by Silco Jinx/Powder.
      There is no awareness.
      Jinx overreacted to the "click" sound from the gun and overloaded with the shimmer support and started shooting around blindly. She kept firing, especially towards the bullet fired from Silco's gun. (followed the bullet)

    so cool! thanks for your reaction, and no need to apologize for getting emotional at this masterpiece of a show. They really managed to create something special with the writing, the music, the animation, the background and sounddesign and these beautiful and broken characters that we love despite their flaws and traumas.
    I also really like this ending. Many people say it's a mean cliffhanger but tbh even if there wasn't a second season already announced I'd be alright with where we are. We know where every character stands in the show and we know what will likely follow these events so everything this season was set out to explore has been answered and it's opened up a lot of new possibilities that should be explored on their own.
    Not sure if you already have but watching the Enemy music video is highly recommended if you want a bit more on the background on Vi, Ekko, Jinx/Powder and the others.
    If you want more: the League of Legends 2021 Worlds Open is also really cool (they filmed it on a massive set!), and Riot recently released Bridging the Rift which is an amazing documentary series about making the show.

    One of the best scenes in this episode, which I am not quite sure how Tiny reacted to, as the beginning of the scene is cut off, is the fountain scene. The parallel situations -- Vander-Vi, Silco-Jinx, and how Silco finally understands the decision Vander made and why. Once you have someone to love, it's a lot harder to give them up for a cause. Even if that cause is everything to you. It was a really well-done scene. It's also confirmation that he really wouldn't have given Jinx up, that he finally understood.

    My prediction !
    Mel has some type of "Barrier" from her back , she is going to use that to shield Jay and herself , leaving everyone else to die.

      I also don't think everyone is dead -- although it'd certainly be a shocking way to start season 2 if they were. Initially my first thought was that Mel was a sure goner, as she's right by the window, but she does have that glowing armor. Viktor... whatever he is now... and whatever the hexcore is... that possibly could protect him somewhat. As for Jayce, it may simply be plot armor.
      Everyone else is fair game.

      I would say its a safe bet that Caits mother will die just becouse of what we can hear in the Season 2 teaser. We can hear Cait talking to Vi asking her to come and help her as she is gonna hunt Jinx down. Cait says that if i go alone then only 1 will come back. Ofc we dont have the full context here but it would suggest that Cait is gonna do what is needed to hunt Jinx down and Jinx is clearly not gonna come willingly suggesting that if Vi dosent help Cait then Jinx or Cait could very likly die when Cait does find Jinx.
      If Mel was wearing Demacian clothing then i would say its possable given that almost anything they make can be made to absorb magic so a barrier wouldent be out of the question. i´m leaning more on the side of Mel being the daughter of 1 of the Noxus leaders that she has the Black Iron armor the strongest metal in Runterra. Her cloths dosent really look like armor but it wouldent be that suprising that the daughter of a high ranking Noxus family would have some kind of protection. Especially as she is fully aware that a conflict is very close to breaking out. I would say that Caits mother is 90% dead given how determined Cait sound in the Seaon 2 teaser. Any1 else apart from Jayce and Victor could go either way really.

    • @Arty_McParty

    What people dont seem to realise is, what silco is doing, is exactly what vander did until he found vi and powder... wich is exactly where silco is getting to. So it's kinda annoying me, that everyone loves vander, but just hates silco outright. The intro of episode 1 is literaly vander bashing peoples skulls in.. redicioulus

    • @Mi_Z
      @Mi_Z 2 года назад +3

      It's not everyone. There are a lot of people, myself included, who don't hate Silco. In fact, I think he was generally right -- he could have achieved independence + peace via fear -- if not for some hiccups at the end there. He was an 'ends justify the means' guy -- although I do think his means didn't necessarily need to be as harsh as they were.
      As for Vander, he gets a pass, as he's sort of coded as a hero -- reformed revolutionary, family man and so on. But yep, first scene of the show and he's there murdering an enforcer in cold blood. And add in the fact he's generally responsible for countless other deaths either directly or indirectly, on both sides, as evidenced by the pile of dead bodies on that bridge.
      One sort of amusing thing I find is how many view killing enforcers unjustified (later in the show) ... however I expect many of these same people, in episodes 1 + 2 (when Marcus is being an extra special jerk), wouldn't think it unjustified at all, but cheer it on.
      But it's a credit to the show as to how it subverts expectations, and there really aren't any heroes and villains... at least not in the traditional sense... most of the characters are shades of gray. One just has to get past the hero coding and automatic expectations of good guys and bad guys.

    If you want some more Arcane content, you could react to the Season 2 teaser and the "Imagine Dragons - Enemy" music video. There's also a 5-part behind the scenes series called "Arcane: Bridging the Rift" that just got released on youtube.
    And on the League of Legends side of things, some stuff that involves some of the characters you saw here would be "Get Jinxed (ft. Djerv) | Official Music Video" from 2013 which you would have heard as an easter egg in Ep4 and the "Warriors Season 2020 Cinematic" which features a couple of characters you might recognise :)

      I wonder if she necessarily blames herself for Vander's death -- since Silco admitted to stabbing Vander in the back to Jinx, I'd think not necessarily. She also doesn't get Vander hallucinations haunting her.
      And in reality, I don't think she really was responsible for Vander's death anyway. I don't think he could have escaped, he was a dead man regardless.
      But yeah, it's not exactly great for the psyche there.

    Noxus is a society quite literally ruled through "Might makes right".

    What Mels mother says makes absolute perfect sense for a Noxian.
    If Mel weakened her it would literally put their entire family in danger.
    Mels mother is quite a sentimental and empathic person... for a Noxian.

  • @norahhitt104

    I didn't expect to cry like I did until Silco was looking at Jinx and told her she was perfect and not to cry. That obliterated any kind of emotional wall I had prepared to put up because my whole life I felt like Powder/Jinx and just wanted to have someone in my life tell me that I wasn't a fuck up and that I was perfect the way I was even if it wasn't the perfect everyone else needed. So that scene had me crying for like hours after. But what really ties that scene together in a neat and tidy package was when Sting started singing 'The Monster you Created' because that's sort of always what I needed my family to realize is that while I may have not been mentally stable for most of my life that in the long run it was the way they all treated me growing up that put those messed up thoughts and ideas into my head, and while there is also some pre-resiquite genetic issues there, environmental effects did nothing to help those things when I was younger. The show all together though did in 9 episodes what some shows fail to accomplish in 10ish seasons worth of episodes, and that was tell a story that the world as a whole needed to be aware of,from the way we act both to ourselves as well to the environment we act on around us and how easily the tiniest decisions we make can effect so much without us ever realizing it until sometimes it's too late. I enjoyed your reaction though, very genuine and emotional responses to what was happening 👍

    The only thing Powder/Jinx was after throughout the entire series was validation but would never get it, either being left behind or a problem for other people. However Silco gave it to her with his dying breath, despite her being the cause of it. This is why I think she chose the Jinx chair, Jinx was validated, Powder was not.

    • @n0bleonline222

    • @Mi_Z
      @Mi_Z 2 года назад +1

      @@n0bleonline222 Some people seem to take the whole Powder + Jinx thing too literally. I've read some reviews even frame it as a 'split personality' disorder.
      I mean the show sort of sets it up that way, so I guess on a superficial level it's easy to see why people do this. Sometimes I even find myself using those terms, although in reality all I mean is Jinx as Vi views her -- as her younger self vs her current self.
      It's almost like a mental MacGuffin -- the thing the show sets up as a key plot device, but in reality there is no Powder/Jinx, as you say.
      As for the other person commenting on Silco winning, well, being dead and all, and apparently on the brink of war ... it's probably not exactly what he'd term a 'win'.
