Arcane is (and I don't use the word lightly) a masterpiece. From the visuals to the characters to the music to the story to the underlying themes, it's just a remarkable piece of art. So excited to see you experience the full ride of season 1!
Also, not sure if you caught on your first watch: Vi's "plan" when she sent the message to the enforcers (at the end of ep 2) was to turn herself in and take full responsibility for the explosion. She was doing what she needed to protect the Underground. She wasn't trying to make any kind of trouble or start a war.
I honestly can’t think of too many shows with such a consistent level of polish. Maybe no other shows from the last 5 or so years. The writing is great… the characters act consistently with their established personalities… and the 2d effects on top of the 3d animation are gorgeous. I’ll rejoin Netflix for season 2 as soon as it comes out.
I have never clicked on a video SO FAST!! Arcane is one of THEE best animated series out there, and you can not change my mind. The writing, characters, story development, and animation are all just so top notch!! I might just go back and rewatch it again a 4th time...lmao
@jdogzerosilverblade299 I did say "is one of" lol. The last airbender is definitely up there too. I've loved AtLA for almost 20 years (and still do), but Arcane fills a very different niche imo. It isn't restricted by being first and foremost "a kids show", and can really show all the darker sides that Avatar never was allowed to.
I have always found it interesting that Jayce remembers everything about his rescuer, down to the exact movements and symbols he used, but he doesn't remember his face. Really shows how he views things.
granted because the mans face was pretty shrouded with clothing and glasses/goggles so he really didnt get a good look of his face. But def he would remember everything that happened during that because his bodies "survival" mode was engaged (due to his weak mother) so his brain went on record mode which is why he remembers everything in detail. In fact the cold open to epidsode 1 also features this. The way the camera moves, what it captures, its supposed to be essentially what Powder remembers through that lens of "her body is in survival mode and this is what her "camera" is capturing."
Imagine Dragons song fit so good, because it was written for specifically for the show. Even more so - EVERY SONG you hear and EVERY SOUND you hear were crafted by Riot's composers. If you're interested, defently check out "Arcane: Bridging the Rift" series, which is 5 parts top notch documentary on how show was written, animated, how songs were made etc. Very good sh****!
It looks like it's all painted because it IS painted lol. Every texture is hand drawn, the backgrounds are hand drawn images, and the effects are hand drawn frame by frame too. There's also no mocap, it's animated frame by frame. You should watch bridging the rift after finishing the show, it's the behind the scenes of the first season and it's just as enjoyable as the show itself. It really makes you appreciate the massive effort that was put into this show.
riot cant make a balanced game or a non toxic community for shit but they sure as hell have one of the best writing teams to exist. the entire league of legends world has so much lore and is so big its insane.
The lore community is actually really great, I don't even play the games other than LoR anymore, but the lore folk are a far cry from what I was used to while still playing.
They don't want a balanced game because it would let people get bored. The constant hate keeps their players engaged. It's machiavellian af but you can't argue with the results. Yeah the fundamental design of Summoners Rift being solid helps too.
@@j.f.fisher5318 That's why they constantly try to switch up the meta. Some times the ADC's are OP, sometimes it's the assassins, for the past 4 seasons it's been tanks... Everyone gets their turn. Some just get more of them xD
@@JimbeansBeans I've only played a bit of League but a lot of WoT and it worked much the same way. Highly toxic player base and constantly stirring the pot with the meta.
Powders voice actresa was only 11 years old when recording this... Fakking _unreal,_ what a talent. Her name is *_Mia Sinclair Jenness._* You should probably remember that name. She will go places.
This show is seriously phenomenal. It's truly amazing how good it is. And when you were wondering how it felt painted, that's because it was painted. While the sets and characters are 3D models, their textures are all hand painted and all the backgrounds are hand painted.
So cause you were asking, they never explain in the show how exactly Viktor got to Piltover because it got cut. But the reason they were throwing around (and the writers said this in interviews) was that Viktor's parents saved up all their money to buy one of the Academy's uniforms, which they then gave to Viktor. With the uniform he snuck into the academy and started studying as if he was any other student (I guess Viktor is a great liar when he wants to be). When he was finally found out it was by Professor Heimerdinger, whom instead of throwing Viktor off the premises and/or jailing him, took Viktor under his wing. That's why Viktor is assistant to the dean of the academy.
Adding another comment now that I've actually watched the whole thing lol. The way you catch on and understand the characters and setting so quickly is awesome! Yeah a lot of people will blame Vi at the end there, but you can see her instant regret after she hits Powder. You see her look at her bloodied knuckles, and probably remembering Vander telling her that her fists aren't always going to solve all her problems. So she goes around the corner to just calm down and get some space, but unfortunately the chips just don't fall well for either of them.
I completely agree! I don't think anything will ever reach ATLA for me, but Arcane might be the closest so far. The world building, characterizations, and just the poetry of the story are all incredible.
It's worth noting about episode 3, that topside and the undercity both conducted their first successful hextech experiments on the same night, at the same time. While Jayce and Victor hijacked professor Heimerdinger's office, Powder was making her monkey bomb.
"I want that in a open world RPG-Game" --- Well, RIOT is working on exactly THIS as a MMORPG. But not only the city of piltover. ALL of Runeterra. 😄 "Looks like its all painted." --- Thats because IT IS 😆. 3D models, but completely hand painted textures and Background. They even painted several faces for each character depending on the lighting.
They probably won't put all of runeterra in the game straight away. Nothing is confirmed yet but it's likely that they'll do piltover, zaun, maybe noxus and demacia because they give off massive good guy/ bad guy RPG vibes and the rest will be expansions.
@@Randommmmm204 Noxus, Demacia and Freljord for starters, I'd say, they're the closest to just vanilla fantasy. Maybe P&Z as a hub, but it's still such a large location that doing only that wouldn't do it justice.
They held off on developing the MMO for now since they haven't found a way to make the "new" kind of MMO. Not just a variety or a reskin of Warcraft. I personally would be fine with the current formula but with the Runeterra setting but yeah.
Vi hitting Powder comes from her way of solving Problems, meaning with fists. She just saw the dead Bodies of her brothers and her father figure drawing his last breath. Her response to the emotional turmoil within her can not include wise and thoughtfull factors. Her realising the fact that she hit her little sister is wrong is the most mature result she can fathom. She realises she needs to take some distance from the situation in order to protect Powder from herself in that moment. Although she only moved around the corner, not to far away from her which is indicating that she still wants to be there for her sister, but that idea was scrubbed by Marcus's actions to Vi. Arcane is an exellent adult drama series, don't let the fact it's animated fool you.
I'm glad you just didn't blame Vi. It's easy to understand Powder's POV and what she was trying to do, but people usually don't understand Vi's outburst. She had just lost three of the only four people she cared in the world and because of the fourth one. I imagine is maddening. But she regained control of herself after saying Power was a jinx and stepped aside to calm down. Unfortunately, because Marcus kidnapped her she couldn't come back and Powder felt abandoned. it's so so sad. Specially having a sister who I love the most in this world, I imagine how I'd feel if it was us. So unfair. Loved the reaction as always
This is seriously one of the best pieces of FILM I’ve ever seen. The animation, the voice acting, the music, the story, EVERYTHING. I am SO excited to take this journey again with you.
ATLA is an amazing show but Arcane is just better. The animation is better, the music is better, and the writing is more intricate. Lots of subtext, so much more complex. Every little detail matters, there's not a frame, word or note that isn't there for the sole purpose of telling a story. Everything is thought out incredibly well. Not taking away from how amazing ATLA is, I'm just saying Arcane is much better. I genuinely believe it's the best animated film ever made. It's crazy cause I had such little hope for it when it was announced.
@@Randommmmm204 I love both a lot, but for different reasons, plus I'm a bit biased because ATLA has nostalgia on its side for me. Completely agree with everything you said about arcane though. Both are masterfully written shows with a lot of thought put into small details
@@Randommmmm204 Objectively, you're right, and I personally agree with you. But most people who say that ATLA is their favorite almost entirely seem to make that choice because of nostalgia reasons.
@@theyeetus1428 Being the best and being a favorite are different things. People are fully in their right to prefer something that they LIKE better. Though I agree, I think Arcane is the best animated property I ever saw, and it's my favorite at the same time.
Arcane is full of very human characters, and the way it forces you to empathize and sympathize with all the characters is what makes it such a masterpiece. (Silco is the best of them all, by the way.) And remember: "The Arcane is dangerous."
Funny you should mention Hailee Steinfeld voicing Gwen Stacy. The voice actor for Mylo, Yuri Lowenthal, has been the voice of Spider-Man in the video games since 2012! I'm surprised he wasn't around longer because he's probably the most prolific voice actor in the cast.
WHAT NO WAY YOUVE NEVER SEEN ARCANE AHHHHHHH! Dude this is gonna be an incredible watch i couldn't think of any other series id rather watch you react to And i think for your OWN enjoyment as you said watching each act all in one sitting, then you really get the most out of it its really meant to be enjoyed like that they even released it with each act a week apart. Cheers! Hope you enjoy this is really something special 😊
Yeah the heartbreak of Arcane is that you understand where all the characters are coming from. Even when they do something abhorrent you can see how they came to that place. It's a very human story and while the worldbuilding, art etc are all amazing, it's the beautiful character writing that holds and lift up the story to unbelievable heights. My heart bleeds for both Vi and Powder here at the end because both their actions make so much sense and they are kids who already has been through their fair share of trauma. It's sad and horrific but so beautifully done. This is what happens when creative and talented people are allowed the time and space to do their thing. I mean even Imagine Dragons went into this because they are League fans and they wrote Enemy (the intro song) for Arcane.
They build the conflict really well and also the fact that there is no good solution, not anymore. Vander does not want another uprising, because the last one cost so many lives, but in the meantime, his people are dying of starvation and being slowly poisoned by the water and the air. At this point, there are pretty much two ways: Keep the status quo, lettin the undercity slowly die and decay until their spirit is completly broken or fight, probably losing hundreds of people in the process with no guarabtee that things will egt better. no matter where you look, that isn't a good solution. The only way to do this without bloodshed would be Piltover giving sweeping apologies and starting to funnel quite a bit of money into the lanes for infrstructure, education etc. but I think we all know that isn't going to happen
Thank you, and I mean, thank you SO MUCH for understanding Vi's perspective in that scene! I know lashing out at your sister is not gonna help or make things better and I do not wish any child to go through the realization that they just accidentally killed their family, but after you just find out she's the reason your family died all over again in front of you when they could've survived if she had just listened to you, you can't just realistically expect someone to stay patient. Patience has limits! Granted, she could've said something like "I'll be right back", but her walking off was the most mature response. She was too angry at the moment, so she needed to cool off so she would later come back and discuss it more calmly.
This is my favorite show of all time. Genuinely everything is so amazing. The music is my favorite and Spotify hit me with that fact cause the year it came out, I was in the top 0.001% of listeners XD I'm so glad you're taking the opportunity to watch this Oscar!!!
I could gush about this series for hours. Thanks so much for giving it a chance! I'm so happy you enjoyed Act 1. Everything is just so impressive; animation, voice acting, writing, character designs. All of it.
Oh boy here we go again, let’s see how this goes. Yeah, how far are people willing to go to pursue their goals? Will they truly be capable of giving everything to get it?
Welcome to the ride that is Arcane. It is a ride filled with pain and agony but is also one of the best-made tragedies that I've ever encountered. One of the lines that really stands out to me from the first act is where Vander is challenging Silco about why he's doing this all, and asks if it is for pride. It is easy to dismiss Silco's response of "For respect!" as just being rationalization, but as someone who has been systematically denied respect within their own household, I can tell you that respect is like air... and being deprived of it can drive someone to desperation, every bit like... being drowned. As for it looking painted, the animation studio digitally painted the skins for the 3D models, and (even wilder) they added all of the effects like flashes of light and smoke in as 2D images over the 3D images by hand as well. It is... _insane_ the level of detail that they put into this show on pretty much every level. I'm definitely looking forward to continuing the journey with you. This is unequivocally my favorite thing to watch reactions for XD
I'll never pass up the opportunity to enjoy Arcane for the first time through someone else's eyes! Loved your commentary on it so I'm happy you popped up on my recommended! Gotta check out your other reactions
2:30 forget RPG game, they are making an MMORPG 3:37 because it IS all painted. I recommend watching the 5 part "making of arcane" after this, called "bridging the rift" 48:00 welcome to Arcane~ the show is lit. named after a type "Magic" within the world
The female enforcer with the gravelly voice is Shohreh Aghdashloo, an Iranian-American actress. She is beautiful and amazing. My favourite character of hers is in The Expanse, a sci-fi TV show based on a series of books by James S.A. Corey - a duo of writers, who have created an amazing and believable world. If you haven't watched that series you really should. I think you would love it. Also, you would probably like Altered Carbon, which I thought had a great concept.
I love that last scene between Silco and Powder. Because in that moment, Silco made a choice. He choose to take in Powder, a kid that has been betrayed by her closes person, like himself. He is pretty much seeing himself in her in that moment and Powder knows she cannot make it on her own and jumps on "the enemy" because Vee was her everything.
I still remember how much of an "OH SHIT" moment I had when Viktor finally said his name. One of the only moments where playing the game changed how I interpreted the show, and man it was impactful.
I was wondering why there was so much emphasis on that moment. Felt very out of place but it makes sense if in the world of League of legends he’s a significant person.
@@thecocoacouch I wouldn't recommend looking up the character lmao. They nod to characters' identities as they appear in the game throughout the show, and they made it with people who have played the game in mind, so I wouldn't say they're spoilers per se. But, if you just want to experience their journey as the show portrays, looking up their in-game identities would give you certain ideas as to where they're headed. Some already reached those interpretations, and plenty aren't in the game at all, so don't worry too much, but Viktor is one that I would recommend avoiding.
29:32 well it's a complicated topic but some people who experienced drowning feel 'peaceful' only after long deprivation of oxygen which generates the euphoric feeling, but besides that drowning is very stressful (well, like any near death experience but here it's completely out of your control and breathing is the most important function so this sucks bad) and painful as the water enters your lungs, it burns
Don't worry for calling Vander Vi's father, she does consider him that completely so it's accurate, we know it's not that you think he's her bio father or something, for us too he's her dad.
"Needs a meet the robinsons scenario where she sees everything she invented" Glances at Jinx's extreme path of death and destruction Sure dude that will totally help
@@LadyKhione it isn't a spoiler. It's basic common knowledge every single person who knows anything about league of legends would know. If you have a problem with something so well known being vaguely alluded to then sorry.

Vander kept evading too much. He should've been honest with Grayson at the start, and said, "I can't, it's family." I would bet any amount of money that Grayson would've worked with him to come up with some other solution. She wouldn't put a child behind bars, especially not one of Vander's kids, and more especially when it would jeopardize the somewhat peaceful balance they'd established. She'd work with him to come up with some other solution. Grayson also should've put it together immediately. Vander's probably ratted people out before for causing too much trouble and risking the peace. Why clam-up now? He's obviously protecting someone specific, someone important. And the sudden nature of the change in behavior makes it pretty clear it's not just someone important in an abstract sense. It's personal. It's family...someone directly precious to him, personally. She just didn't want to see it because she still innately doesn't trust him completely. If he'd just been honest about it. They both know each other well enough. They each know the other is "good people." They're both the type to have your back with absolute dedication, when it matters most. For all their flaws, they're easily the two most trustworthy people in the show. And they didn't trust each other.

This was on my husband's watch list for a long time as a League of Legends player but I kept pushing it off since I don't play. He finally convinced me to give it a try and we binged the entire thing in like 2 days. I think I enjoyed it more than him! I even asked when it ended if there was going to be another season about other characters. He had told me to watch for Heimerdinger as he would likely be my favorite and he wasn't wrong until we meet his companion! Can't wait for the next installment!
What makes this show so amazing, is that every single scene has a purpose. There are no filler scenes. I've seen this show at least a dozen times and I am still picking up little hints and foreshadowing.
They used a mix of 2D, 3D & painted as well as hand drawn animation. There is an entire 30-40min documentary here on RUclips on how this came into being.
Goddamn, it's been a while since I last watched Arcane, but it still OBLITERATES me every time. It is an absolute masterclass in writing, animation, art direction... everything. If there is one single piece of work everyone in the industry needs to watch and take notes religiously, it's definitely Arcane. Hot damn.
This is a great show! The characters as you already noticed in episode 1 are really well thought out. Throughout the series, they maintain consistent motivations based on the info the character would have in the moment way better than most modern shows. I can’t wait for you to dive deeper!
3:25 "What is it about the art style that looks like its all painted?" Funnily enough, they were actually asked this in a promotional interview! It looks all painted... because it was all painted. Literally. They painted the textures and then scanned them into their animation programs.

Oh can't say how glad I am that u found this series, noticed that u only saw 6 episodes so far but these first three jus gets u hooked What a beautiful and horrible story
The fact they almost cancelled this series and were scared it would do poorly is mind-blowing. Once you finish the series and if you like 'behind the scenes' type stuff, you can check out "Bridging The Rift" series. They go over every aspect of the series (sound effects, music, animation) and even premier.
Not only is the story and the artstyle awesome, but the fact that they managed to make such a good series that is EVEN BETTER when you actually know the game(s) and the characters and all the eatereggs hidden in the series, makes it just a perfect series in my opinion.
when you said something about powder/jinx going to the future and seeing all that she’s created, i just had to take a moment. jinx’s only path is destruction after the end. it’s so, so sad. i love this story so much
You shall soon learn there is no good or bad guys! Like definitively good or bad! There’s a quote later on “in the pursuit of greatness we failed to do good” or something like that but that quote defines this series completely!
I was going to talk about how they made this animation but I'm sure someone already did. So I'll comment on how this show has characters both from the game and completely new made just for this show and the writers treat all of them with such care and attention to detail that you would never know for sure which one is from where as a newcomer. That's great.

@@ninjatoriumnova2483 talking about the players so they don't count.😊
They don't want a balanced game because it would let people get bored. The constant hate keeps their players engaged. It's machiavellian af but you can't argue with the results. Yeah the fundamental design of Summoners Rift being solid helps too.
@@j.f.fisher5318 That's why they constantly try to switch up the meta. Some times the ADC's are OP, sometimes it's the assassins, for the past 4 seasons it's been tanks... Everyone gets their turn. Some just get more of them xD

@iamemamae you said what was already said 😂😂
This show is seriously phenomenal. It's truly amazing how good it is. And when you were wondering how it felt painted, that's because it was painted. While the sets and characters are 3D models, their textures are all hand painted and all the backgrounds are hand painted.
Even the lighting effects are hand made!
This was one show I was not expecting much of but it blew me away. The animation and writing are just incredible
So she goes around the corner to just calm down and get some space, but unfortunately the chips just don't fall well for either of them.
from the creating Arcane miniseries "Interviewer: How do you give the textures that painterly look? Artist: Haha, We paint."
OMG YOU'RE WATCHING ARCANE
You're not going to regret it I swear
I'm a huge fan of ATLA and arcane may be my second favourite show, it's incredible
Right!? The fact it is such an incredible show in just 9 episodes and can be compared to shows like ATLA is insane!
There's a lot of duality in this show.. like how powder use the stones in a chaotic way while jayce and Viktor use it more stable
Or like how Powder falling through the air mirrors Silco’s drowning. Both were a defining formative moment. The same theme even plays.
"I want that in a open world RPG-Game" --- Well, RIOT is working on exactly THIS as a MMORPG. But not only the city of piltover. ALL of Runeterra. 😄
"Looks like its all painted." --- Thats because IT IS 😆. 3D models, but completely hand painted textures and Background. They even painted several faces for each character depending on the lighting.
"How did you make things looked painted?" "We... painted" 😁😁
Oooooh really? I'm not a fan of League, but I'd play the hell out of an MMO set in this world.
YES YES YES, this series is purely perfect storytelling, breathtaking animation and acting, it blows you away. One of the best of recent years.
“I didn’t think things could get that bad.”
We were all there, mate. 😂
This is seriously one of the best pieces of FILM I’ve ever seen. The animation, the voice acting, the music, the story, EVERYTHING. I am SO excited to take this journey again with you.
Favourite animated series EVER!! (Right behind ATLA)
Also the reason the song fits so well is because the song enemy was literally made FOR this show.
Dude this is gonna be an incredible watch i couldn't think of any other series id rather watch you react to
And i think for your OWN enjoyment as you said watching each act all in one sitting, then you really get the most out of it its really meant to be enjoyed like that they even released it with each act a week apart. Cheers! Hope you enjoy this is really something special 😊
You:
"Wow, thst was amazing, im hooked"
All of us:
I think a huge part of its success is the artstyle, it's a masterpiece
This is my favorite show of all time. Genuinely everything is so amazing. The music is my favorite and Spotify hit me with that fact cause the year it came out, I was in the top 0.001% of listeners XD
I'm so glad you're taking the opportunity to watch this Oscar!!!
I could gush about this series for hours. Thanks so much for giving it a chance! I'm so happy you enjoyed Act 1. Everything is just so impressive; animation, voice acting, writing, character designs. All of it.
YES HES WATCHING ARCANE😮

48:00 welcome to Arcane~ the show is lit. named after a type "Magic" within the world
Maybe by 2030 we'll get that mmorpg
There’s few things in life that repeatably make me tear up. Ep 3’s ending is one of them.
That song in the end- Goodbye is still one of my most listened to songs on Spotify. The discography of Arcane is insane.
Like what others are saying, YOU HAVE NO IDEA how excited I was to see you starting this AMAZING show

Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did! Love your channel, definitly one of my favourite reaction channels on YT.
Vander kept evading too much. He should've been honest with Grayson at the start, and said, "I can't, it's family."
I would bet any amount of money that Grayson would've worked with him to come up with some other solution.
Everyone had like the same reaction thinking “Yay Powder did it!” To “Oh no…Powder😢”
the best way to explain the oscillation talk of jayce and viktor is by thinking of a bike, youre most likely to fall of if you go slow, but if you go fast, the bike is more stable!
"I'm just going to jump right into Episode 3." Ah. So blissfully naive. :)
Arcane is really good at making you understand why characters make decisions, that from the viewers point, are clearly the wrong decision.

Oh, I am sooooo excited for this. I just rewatched this like last week and yet here I am, ready to watch again!
What makes this show so amazing, is that every single scene has a purpose. There are no filler scenes. I've seen this show at least a dozen times and I am still picking up little hints and foreshadowing.
I just finished watching S2 today, and watching S1 again with you just remained me of how brilliant the first season is T.T
They used a mix of 2D, 3D & painted as well as hand drawn animation. There is an entire 30-40min documentary here on RUclips on how this came into being.
NO WAY! You are in for a treat, my friend. A treat that sometimes takes forms as a pill not easily swallowed, but a treat nonetheless!
Goddamn, it's been a while since I last watched Arcane, but it still OBLITERATES me every time. It is an absolute masterclass in writing, animation, art direction... everything. If there is one single piece of work everyone in the industry needs to watch and take notes religiously, it's definitely Arcane. Hot damn.
I have watched this show 5 times already because I NEED to satisfy my urge for the next season
This is a great show! The characters as you already noticed in episode 1 are really well thought out. Throughout the series, they maintain consistent motivations based on the info the character would have in the moment way better than most modern shows. I can’t wait for you to dive deeper!

"What is it about the art style that looks like its all painted?"

Pretty sure I learnt that early 😆😆 but yes I’m keen for some more!
Ohhh boy! This show along with other great media is changing the animation landscape and I love it so much
I was going to talk about how they made this animation but I'm sure someone already did. So I'll comment on how this show has characters both from the game and completely new made just for this show and the writers treat all of them with such care and attention to detail that you would never know for sure which one is from where as a newcomer. That's great.
i’m not a person that really likes animation that much but arcane has such a good story and also the aesthetic itself its AMAZING
Omg I never thought you would react to this! But I'm so glad you are it's such a good series!! ❤
