  • The Aussie Fisherman Greg shows how to pick up very alive mudcrabs out of tubs. I took the ties off these two crabs, too show how to how to pick up a mudcrab. Place your index finger on the back of the crab and your thumb around the flipper on one side and your second finger around the flipper on the other side. Hold really tight and lift up.If you find it a bit heavy, just face the crab up, and it is easier to hold. I am not suggesting putting mudcrabs in a tub untied. I would like to see everyone tie up mudcrabs before they put them into a tub with holes in so the water can drain out. Then, place a wet hessen bag over the crabs to keep them moist and out of the hot sunlight. This helps keep them alive.
As you can see, you have to be very careful when handling mudcrabs. They can easily bite you. I can assure you their bite can be very painful. If a mudcrab does bite you and leaves the nipper on some part of your body. It's handy to keep a pair of side cutters in the boat. Just cut the top part of the nipper, the part that goes up and down. That will stop the pressure. I would always stress to be very careful handling mudcrabs.
My next video I hope you find helpful is about how to cook, clean, and take the meat out of the mudcrab the easy way.
