Hi Brandon, just wanted to thank you very much for this review. Brief and to the point. You answered my question if I should read the Screenwriting version BEFORE I read the Novel version. You saved me time AND money! ;)
Mercedes Lackey recommended Blake Snyder's work online, sending me to the original screenwriting books. When I read that a version geared towards novel-writing was coming up, I couldn't have been happier. Jessica Brody really takes it to the next level, going into just the right amount of detail without bogging us down. Her tips for character writing have been immensely helpful, and the genre examples have sent me to some excellent books as both entertainment and study work. Easily the best purchase I've made in forwarding my writing.
Agreed 100%. IMO Brody's book is by far the better in the two because it's more comprehensive. Definitely check out a recent book called The Nutshell Technique as well (I'll link my review below). STC and The Nutshell Technique complement each other well. ruclips.net/video/OP1t62uLc7Y/видео.html
I haven't read Save the Cat Writes a Novel, but I have read books like The Complete Guide to Writing Fiction and Nonfiction by Pat Kubis and Bob Howland. I think I might need to read it now😊 I'm a teen writer and am always looking for new writer channels, so I'm glad I stumbled upon this! I've only participated in one contest so far, the Wordhamster.com contest, and took 1st place with my short story The Lost Shard of Damilla, so I know how exciting it is to win something like that😊 Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching! STC is the #1 book I wish I'd read early on in my career. Learning plot structure ASAP makes everything else easier. Best of luck with your career!
Lot of great unsung details scattered in there, like how the A-story and B-story should cross paths at the midpoint. Big help for me during my latest round of edits. Best of luck with your book!
I bought this version of the book by Jessica Brody thinking it was the one by Blake Snyder, I am trying to learn for screenplays and making short films, is it better in my personal case reading any of them? Should I read both or only this one?
They both teach roughly the same info. Brody's book is more comprehensive and detailed than Snyder's. Worth noting that Snyder's book has some chapters toward the end that discuss Hollywood jargon, the biz, etc. Some of that info may be outdated (Snyder wrote STC over 15 years ago), but it may help.
Bro I just finished my high school final year and just wanna say thanks for all what you are doing, I will proudly follow your words master.
