You have saved the Fun and Games section of my novel! I had no idea where to go with it until I saw your video about using Beat sheet for scenes. It is flowing now, each scene will be a page turner, and much better than I could have hoped! Thank you! I will go back and look at each scene written so far and see if they could be improved by using this method.

I found you a few weeks ago (journaling and watching youtube videos). I purchased the Save the Cat! Writes a Novel and spent the last two days delving into and understanding the beat sheet. The book is just fantastic and ever so clearly written and helpful. I subscribed to the newsletter. I am an avid journal writer, so it took me more than a day to transcribe the notes from you book into my journal for easy reference. The examples in chapters 3-13 were so helpful in seeing in action the beat sheets at work! Thank you Jessica. You have such a talent! Thank you for sharing it.

awesome info. it's great and quite smart applying the beat sheats to scenes in the book. This truly helps keep the reader engaged in the story as the plot thickens. I have been analyzing which beats are what from my scenes of my book.
This blueprint helps me fix the what has fallen flat or just doesn't work in the timeline in the scene. Save the Cat..Novel is a life Savor. We writers are so blessed that you are sharing so much with us...U R A blessing Jessica!🙏🙏🙏

Hi Jessica , I am currently writing my second book. The first one I wrote based on a play that I had written so the process was different. I have your Save the Cat Writes a Novel and Love it! Just finishing Chapter 1 and have laughed at least once per page; you're funny Jessica. I'm not a writer. I'm a real estate agent who wants his YT vids to have more life and be more fun to watch. I'm thinking that using a beat sheet modified for video might be helpful. I'm going to try to figure that out. Anyhow, I appreciate the work you are sharing with us here and in your Save The Cat Writes A Novel book.

Jessica, I love the idea of the "beat". It implies a human algorithm, which I'm already sold for a description of human behavior. However, I'm curious: Is this algorithm static or dynamic?. Here static being the story will be successful for current times / generation or if it will be timeless? Where do you think these algorithms you've discovered lie?
I purchased your audio book tonight. I plan on listening to it in hopes it helps me to develop a story for the characters that live in my head.

I've been wondering whether I should buy this or not. I'm the most panstery person I know.😂 Even my teachers were baffled by my lack of planning in my Uni days especially when it came to completing my dissertation in a day. But I have reached my writers block. And I do hope this budges it.

I'm sorry to hear about your writers block! You will get through it. All writers struggle with this. And lots of people have success using the StC method, but you have to do what works for you! Wait a minute, I'm confused -- so the scene beats are for individual scenes/chapters as well as for the entire book as a whole? (Kind of like a fractal?)

  • @mhollis1989

Question: do I use this beat sheet for chapters as a whole, then use it again for the specific scenes?
