AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on RUclips are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!
Here's the magic 2-WAY OIL FILTER WRENCH amzn.to/3y3k3Yq
Never thought an oil change video could be so entertaining! Fun video! After TWO “professional” oil change places neglected to snug up our drain plug (it was leaking) I considered just doing it myself going forward. This video makes me also question if it’s worth it…
You might regret later on tightening those filters down with that tool. I have always only tightened oil filters "hand tight". When you use a tool they tend to get stuck on the mounts and if you're lucky and with some great effort they will turn off. I have helped friends in the past that have tightened the filter on with a wrench and have had to chisel the old filter off the engine, not fun at all.... All in all another great video and I am glad that those ramps didn't collapse while Seemore was sitting on them.
No tools yes only hand tight
I agree and it looked like he tightened too much. He will need that new tool to get it off however 😊.
Yeap
My oil change guy may regret it. 😂
I agree…
Use oil to lube the seal, also you should really pour some oil into the filter prior to installing it
Very true, Vaseline will break down quickly at those temperatures.
Entertaining video.
1. Torque wrench is used only for installing threaded nuts/bolts. Do not use to remove threaded nuts/bolts.
2. Cardboard under the vehicle reduces the mess.
3. Use a punch to poke a hole in the bottome of your oil filters and it will cause less of a mess.
4. A lot of new oil containers are now 5 quarts. Check before you purchase.
5. Being 96 degrees outside, I'd skip running the engine to make the oil hotter. It will flow just fine.
If you are still looking for a new tow vehicle that will save you a lot of aggrivation and will pull your Airstream easily. Get a Ford F-250/350 with the 7.3 litre gas engine. A lot less cost on routine maintenance than a diesel. Easy oil change at 8 quarts and you have enough room under the 4wd truck to do an oil change without ramps.
Thanks for the entertainment. It was awesome!
i always just used a little of fresh oil on the gasket when i put a new filter on.
Wasn’t it the oil pump?
I think fresh oil handles the heat better
Hey Sean! Thanks for the entertaining and educational video. I love the running stream of consciousness commentary, it reminds me that I am not alone when I do the same during projects.
That is so true!!!😂
You’re fortunate of the position of your filters, it wouldn’t hurt to fill them with oil before installing.
It helps with dry start up.
...and that was the first time I've seen somebody use vaseline to rub across the rubber gasket. Nothing wrong with that, because vaseline is petroleum jelly. You can also just dip your finger in the regular oil and spread it around the gasket.
@@gj4578 yes, in general vaseline should not be used as it can swell and or deteriorate gaskets and o-rings. Those big filters are mounted facing up so fill 'em while out, finishing with a swipe of the finger over the gasket with the same oil. No big air traps and oil on startup.
pre fill your filters before you put new ones on
Also to avoid oil running down your arm knock a whole in the old filter at the bottom
If you think a cybertruck is an adequate replacement for yours; you should put yourself under professional psychiatric care
I recommend you pass on the Cyberjunk.
What about pre-filling the new filters with new oil??
One consideration is a new diesel will be approximately $100,000+. Travel distance doesn't seem to be a problem for you. I think you will purchase Tesla and be happy outside of extreme cold climates.
Luckily no hats were soiled during the video. Or was it?
Not going to lie Sean, That was painful to watch Sir. From someone that has been doing my own oil changes on my cars, trucks and motorcycles since I was a teenager. But don't give up a wise man once said practice makes perfect.
Don't get the Cyber truck. You really want to unhook every time you need to charge? Think about it
No CyberTruck!
Torque wrench is not for loosening.
I have a 2012 with the 6.7 - still 13 qts of dirty oil. It costs about $100 for just the parts so no way I'm taking it to an oil change place for someone barely qualified to change oil. to make it easier - punch a hole in the bottom of the filter and be patient - let the oil drain out and it won't spill around the edges so much. Also - don't use Vaseline on rubber - it degrades it. Just put your finger in the new oil and spread on the rubber seal - that's all you need. Also, you don't need to torque the filter down - that's why its so hard to get off. I've been changing my own oil since I began driving in the mid 1970s. Why pay someone else to do something you can do - in the time it would take to drive to the easy lube and back? Thanks for the video
I won't lie, that was hard to watch😆
If you can find the filters from K&N you can remove those with a regular socket. No need for oil filter tool.
Safety glasses! You're upside-down, looking up at loose dirt, rust, and hand tools.
Oil? They put that in at the factory don't they? :) When I was young and poor I did a lot of my own auto maintenance and repair. I quickly learned to use eye protection. Especially when working under the vehicle.
Frequent Oil change DIY tip: When putting new filters on, only use hands to tighten. Using the wrench to tighten sometimes leads to over-tightening (aka SUPER-hard to remove next time). Luckily, next time will be outsourced, eh? If you must use a tool, don’t exceed 3/4-1 rotation after gasket contacts surface.
Never seen anyone use vasoline.. Most folks use motor oil.. And most folks do not use a wrench to put the filter on, it can be too tight.
Good job. My only recommendation would be to replace the oil drain plug with a fumoto valve. Also on my 7.3 f250 a 5 gallon bucket fits under the oil pan. No need for ramps. 6.0 may or may not have the same clearance. If it does, no need for the $50 drain pan or the ramps.
I second the use of the fumoto valve, it works great.
I ordered one for my 6.7 after changing the oil as well
@@markwagner6353 Fumoto drains are great, but.... on an engine like this, or my Cummins, having it hanging down where it can get knocked off, is not good.
@CharlesinGA yes I have checked out the Fumito valve after reading Mark’s comment. I will probably give it a try, but having it exposed beneath the engine would make me a little nervous. With my luck, whatever can go wrong tends to go wrong 😂
One way to change your oil is to use a metal punch in the bottom of your oil filter, so you don't get slammed and Let the oil drain out.
Dump the "CYBER' truck. Range sucks and re-charging cross country takes forever and costs big bucks.
looking forward to see you guys hit the trail again. Will be watching for sure...safe travels....
I purchased a full box of drain plug gaskets...... lower cost per unit and I always have them on hand.
My last diesel engine took 42 quarts of oil......
Add a 16 oz. Bottle of Archoil 9100 to your oil.
I did the same bypass oil filter system on my diesel, but I also have a commercial account with Amsoil and that’s the oil you should stick with on that truck or Delo 400. That’s just my opinion, but I’ve been told by the best mechanics to do this and Ford does approve Amsoil.
Very entertaining video, you poor bugger 🤣🤣
Just a FYI Amsoil oil filters are made by Wix filters for Amsoil And Wix filters are the best you can buy
i have a ford also you might try a K&N oil filter it has a 1 inch nut on the bottom of the filter so you can take it off with a socket
Hand tighten oil filter. Not sure about diesel engines.
Don't waste your money on the siber truck. Go get a new Silverado HD with a Duramax.
Great Video. Love you guys. Never knew there was such of a thing as too much lube.😀😀😀
Thank you for the most entertaining oil change video ever!!
Never trust those cheap plastic ramps from China! I only use Race Ramps (made in the USA). Pricey.... Yes, but my life is priceless!
My oil change is really easy. Biggest pain is to dispose of the used oil...
Good job👍
When is it up for a "turnsiganl" oil chang? Any video?😉
Have a nice camping🇺🇲
Lol .....good job better than oil on parking lot. Haha. ...Hey, I pass by old building near corner of El Camino n Page Mill rd once in a while n think of your channel.😂
It might be time to say goodbye to SeeMore …All SeeMore wants is See More Dollars. 🥴😜🤔 SeeMore is Old and They make better Trucks Today. Time to blow some taps on money hungry SeeMore! 👍😜
Sawn, That was funny I don't care who you are. Ha! Ha! I have Never herd such bad language from you, , , , EVER! Ha! Ha! I understand how you feel, but I don't understand how your shirt and head got wet? Will you Please explain!!! I know about this 98 degree temp, it's TOO HOT to go CAMPING. I am the one who lives in Dahlonega, GA with my own Chihuahua and I have your shirt. I use to have 2.5 Yorkies but that was over a year ago. I really like my Chihuahua better than I ever thought. I have a Scamp 5th Wheel now that I purchased last year. I thought I sent you photos of me on I-20 going back to Atlanta, GA which I never say to anyone to travel on the express way. I lost my Dad January of 2020 and my mom just broke her hip so going to the Dr has keep me busy. I hope to see you one day!! Say may be in Tybee Island, GA. where it is quiet but Fun.
Save your money on the EV. Pamper Cecil and wait for EV trucks to get somewhere near equal to gas/diesel trucks in towing RV's. Besides it's not fun running out of gas/diesel/electricity a 100 miles from nowhere. Or with an EV having to stop the night to charge up when you would normally reach the target buy stopping at a gas station for a few minutes.
Good video, I have the same truck also bulletproof may I ask what oil you use again it’s shell……
Enjoyed this video. Thank you and hope you have healed up by now.
I have changed the oil 103 times because i dont trust oil chang places. I have a 7.3 snd you have to change thev3 qts in the top end of top of engine or you will screw up your injecters not real quick but it will.
Please, please get good steel ramps for next time!!! Also, to make the next oil change easier, only hand-tighten the filters. Another trick to get the filters to seal well, you dip your finger into the new oil and use that for lube. And the drain plug should be tight but you don't need to kill it. Otherwise, you could strip the plug and/or the oil pan by over-tightening. All these tricks I use and seem to work.
Please keep up the great work!
That's a heavy load for those questionable looking ramps. Along time ago I decided to make my own. 2 x 10 lumber, basically one lies flat, another one's a little shorter on top of that, repeat. Bevel the edge 45°. Glue and fasten together. It will never ever fail.
I've been using leftover paving stone bricks 1 ft x 1 ft x 1.5 inch thick and put them under the tire once I jack up each side. Each side takes 3 bricks stacked. Parking brake on and chock rear wheels.
But i have never chsnged a dry filter always fill the filter. Look how much time that engine runs without oil.
I understand we all like new things, but that cyber truck…..it just hurts to hear you talking about it. This random person on the interwebs suggests keep Seemore going and use that money for more adventures.
Yeah Sean, after watching you change oil, I agree with you... some guys are better off letting someone else do it 😉
FYI putting a little vaseline or new oil or even a little old oil on the rubber of the filter causes the BUNA rubber to swell and make a good fit. Hand tighten only, lest thy vocabulary increaseth the next time you go to take that filter off.
I usually change my oil on my GMC so I definitely feel your pain and I only have one oil filter. It’s kinda help knowing others have all the same issues I have. I was surprised how those ramps tried to collapse a little when you pulled up on them. Not good.
I had a gas 460 before this one was at a fair so i let valvlean change the oil. Went back it set there for 4 days i hooked up to canper and went to pull out in mud. Check engine light cam on i checked the oil it was 3qts low it held 6. Lucky i had 6 qts with me to change it myself. My dad lost an engine there they didnt titen the drain plug. Next car first oil change same thing. My son came in behind him oil trail from about 300 ft from drive way to garage door.
Don't trust anyone !
Do your own maintenance half the cost and you know it's done and done correctly.
Nice to see Harry 😊
Yes, entertaining video as always 😅
I must say for oil filters hand tight is sufficient.
Ohh yeah…it’s like a drinking game!
Maybe your local Ford dealer can do a mobile oil change service next time. 😅
Not going to pile on with all the other youtube heros with what you shoulda coulda done. Love your content.
You over tightened those filters. A little over snug will do. You’re going to have a hell of a time taking those off.
I thought you did a video showing that you are adding Archoil oil additive to your truck and that it increased your mileage. Are you no longer doing that or just doing it every now and again? BTW, loved the video. Highly entertaining!
Recover camping 😃
You do realize that you don’t have to really wrench down on the oil filter? You only need to tighten the filter about 3/4 of a turn after the rubber gasket contacts the base. I tighten mine down by hand and have never had a leak.
Funny as all get out! Thanks for sharing. 😂😅
It's 98° and you need to warm the truck up? 🤔
0 I didn't read the rest of the comments, I'm sure a lot of others have said the same thing, but you should have filled those oil filters with oil before you screwed them on
Keep your money and keep Seemore!
I've been changing oil in my diesel and gas engines for 50 years and I have never got vaseline to put on gasket of any filter. you can use oil from new or old oil it doesn't matter. and the filter has been installed too tight if you need a wrench to get it off.
It's funny watching an introvert walk into a place and be greeted (cringes). I'll drive my truck until it dies as well. It would have pained me greatly to purchase a $50 oil reservoir as well. But it's probably worth it to be honest with you. So you don't slog oil everywhere. The real question is as a traveler, why are you at home when it's 96°?😂 So why do you have two filters? 😅. Thanks for sharing maniac! Those are the cheesiest ramps I've ever seen in my life! Probably the thing to do would get with your local dealership and tell them what you have going on and give them the filter. I found that "Stealerships" for the most part don't exist anymore. Best thing I ever did was develop a relationship with my locals. Just use your old oil to rub on the new seal. Additionally prefill your filter(s) with oil. Thank you for being a shining example of why I'll never change the oil on my truck!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉. The springs to mind my favorite Southern quaint colloquialism. " I'd rather eat a bug the size of a dinner plate and change my own oil" (Drops mic)😅😂
It’s not a fun job, but because of the bi-pass filter it is best to just do it yourself. I like to fill my filter with oil before installing.
And invest in some metal ramps for peace of mind!
I find oil change videos quite draining.
I have never changed oil and im 77 been driving my own sence 19
lol for a person that had no idea what he was doing. I am very impressed. You did awesome job lol 🛠️🇨🇦🛠️🇨🇦
Thanks, I’m sure there will be several Monday morning quarterbacks here in the common section who will criticize my techniques. I have never claimed to be a diesel technician… While I can handle the basics usually of turning a wrench. I’ve done enough oil changes at this point to at least avoid the most obvious mistakes, but of course, there is always room for improvement. Anyway, I appreciate your watching and the positive feedback! 🔧
Pass. I'm too delicate for that. However from my automotive class, here's my two cents.
a) Use the oil to lube the gasket.
b) Have the wife do it
Next question, why didn’t you prime those oil filters by putting oil in them?
Most filters, like yours, and my Cummins filter, are so difficult to get your hand around, you gotta give it an extra tightening with the wrench. I do it all the time, have for years, never have a problem getting them off. I don't trust anyone else to work on my stuff, i've been wrenching for 50 years now. Just drive a couple of hours southeast to 'jawja (Georgia for you non-southerners) and I'll do the job for you, and won't make a mess.
Here is a hint and helpful tip for changing the oil in any vehicle but especially your 6.0 L Ford. Buy a pair of long sleeve rubber gloves. When putting the gloves on, fold a 1" cuff on the gloves, and in this way when the oil runs down your arm the cuff with catch it so it doesn't run further down arm.
Man if you want a new truck you can get a real nice Super Duty instead of the Cyber truck and sell the old truck to a viewer
This was very entertaining. I change my own oil and you used the right amount of expletives. Why do they put oil filters in odd places and why must they leak oil when you are unscrewing them. I hope you learned your lesson. I will be buying one of those filter wrenches.
Shure glad you removed you $80 Tilleys hat finally.
Sean.... that was hilarious!!! True life is always fun to watch!! 94°F Humidity probably 90% I go thru the same thing every year on my 04 duramax!! Busted knuckles, misplaced tools , forgotten steps... lotsa mumbling and trucker language... Kristy was a trooper hanging with you the whole time!!
I personally changed my fuel filter with every or every other oil change. Depends on miles between oil change.
I have the same upgrade on the same exact truck. For the main oil filter, you can take off that rock shield to get a normal strap wrench in there. And to prevent oil from running down your hand, puncture the end of the filter with a screw driver and drain the oil still in the filter and lines leading to it. Add a Fumoto value under the oil pan for tool less draining.
I like the idea but would only use it i it is protected from being damaged.
@@larrybe2900 what part of what I said are you referring to? Once you're done with the filter change, you put the shield back on.
I was referring to the oil pan drain. It can be vulnerable to be compromised during travel. Then the engine most likely will be toast.
keep the ford for sure
Well it's not as glamorous as a Battleborn install, but it was fun to watch. Reminds me of doing the Chevy 454 RV, the wife's BMW and my 1973 Opel GT. If you like for a future video, post a Blackstone oil analysis result of Seemore's next oil change. Thanks again for a fun video.
For the oil drain pan, I used a cement mixing tub from Home Depot for under $8.
Thanks I will check it out! I have four or five oil drain pans here in the house. The one I used in the video is good because it is deep and the oil is less prone to splash out. Our other vehicles, of course, contain much less oil so splashing is less of a problem
@@LongLongHoneymoon The tub doesn't allow you to pour the oil into a bottle easily. There's no spout, but it is large. You can slide it under the oil filters to catch the overflow when unscrewing the filters.
I am thinking putting the tub into a large trash bag. The bag acts like a liner to the tub. You scoop out the oil using a disposable cup or something. Then you turn the bag inside out and capture the oil inside the bag that you can drain into another container. This will leave the tub clean.
I really don't know why I watched this video but it was entertaining. Thanks for the video.😊
Hey, you need to do the fuel filters next.
Exactly,
Sean, if you want to feel a little better about that $50 oil drain pan I've got 2 of them. I was in Florida and couldn't find an oil change place that could fit my 11 ft. tall rig in their shop. I already had one $50 or there about oil drain pan at home but I had to buy another one when I was in Florida and had to change my oil myself. Now for the drain plug gaskets, if they are sold copper you can heat them on your propane stove in your rig until they are red hot. Then let them air cool (do not quench) and they will be soft and will work again. I have reused the head gasket on an old Triumph motorcycle many times by doing this. Keep the good stuff coming.
I agree with you. Those ramps are not looking so hot with the weight of the truck. I've used 2x8 wood boards to do similar on our 13K pound class-a RV.
When it comes to changing oil on my 2001 super duty, I prefer to do it myself that way I know it is done right. I had my oil changed at a shop and they charged me in excess of 350.00 and I can purchase the oil and filters for $125.00. Then the next time the shop serviced my differentials and did not add friction modifier in and ruind the cluches in my rear differential... Also for lube on the rubber gasket you should just use oil, the petrolium jelly will rot the rubber seal..
Good to know.😊
Thank for the laughs. You made my day. I have loved your videos.
BTW, you have an awesome father-in-law! Nice filter wrench.
