- Opening track on the R.E.M. sophomore album 'Reckoning' released in April 1984.
I'm tuned down a half-step to play along to the album bass and drums tracks; although in fact it is a few cents sharp of that on the recording, so more like 'almost' a half-step.
For the guitar audio my signal chain is:
Rickenbacker 330 JG - JB Nano compressor - Ampli-Firebox (Clean Deluxe) - DAW

Brilliant! I bought Fables first of all and then six months later I bought Reckoning in London. As soon as I heard Harborcoat I thought “Yes! This is the band for me. I’ve found them! “
This collection of R.E.M. songs is becoming such a fantastic endeavor. Truly unique! Merry Christmas!
Underrated song! Such beautiful chord voicings!
Amazing work. You nailed the lightening fast arpeggios
This song has a sweet touch of melancholy
Soundtrack to my youth.
this is one of the best things i have seen and heard
I can only play two notes on the guitar. I love this song. I had always thought there were two guitars being played at once! Wow! Peter Buck, brilliant! This video and you are also brilliant. Thanks!
Love this song/album. Hearing these songs without Stipe vocal just highlights how well constructed they were (similar to Smith's ones) Brilliant videos!
Love learning these songs so accurately finally! Thank you again for all your awesome recent videos! 🤘
Fabulous!
Peter Buck is America's Johnny Marr.

What's that mental chord between the e and a in the chorus
Sounds great!
Thanks!
The pre-chorus last chord arpeggiation doesn’t seem to match the tab . .
Ring finger is on the low E at 7
I'm muting the strings? Look at my right hand. You're welcome.
Fantastic work, incidentally.
