You can't not like Nicko. He's a fantastic drummer. Great personality, energizing and interactive. Loved him from Piece of Mind and on and on and onnnn.
Just a buncha dudes that just love music. Still my favorite band to this very day. :) Heard them first when I was 12 or 13, and still at 30 years old, I can't be mad when Maiden's on. :)
Iron Maiden were my childhood favorites during the 90's. Back then I could only flip through pages of the inserts, look at the band pictures and imagine what they were like in person. I had no idea they were such genuinely nice and funny guys... Maiden will always have a special place in my heart.
Saw Maiden in the Cart & Horses pub in 1976. My old school mate Paul Mario Day was making his singing debut that night, He lives in Australia now. We still keep in touch.😀
Aidan! Meet our little friend who rocks in this video at around 01:07:19. Better start following him now so you can later tell people you were one of his first followers! Thanks for reaching out, Aidan!
@psycho' si Carter This is recorded with some kind of hand held camera with a built in microphone. It's no surprise that the drums sound dead.. If it was professionally recorded it would sound way better.
Fantastic drummer and human being. A gent and showman. Let's give it up for his perfect buzz rolls as well...a skill that is so rare to hear with modern drummers. Not saying it's not played, but it's great to hear a drummer brought up in the period where they were almost essential.
Then perhaps you'd also like checking this one out, when he hosted his switch to British Drum Co. last year: ruclips.net/video/ArkDYvGfLPg/видео.html Thanks for watching our channel Michael!
14:38 Nicko's love for the drums is simply contagous.. ❤ He is a real drum legend with a sound that is hard to emulate, especially when it comes to his storytelling Drumsolo style, the fine, tasteful little he does within it, just great..
I met him at his drum store in Manchester on my way to see porcupine tree last year. Such a nice, genuine person who has a lot of time for his fans and loves what he does
He and Steve Harris are probably best rhythm section in heavy metal for the past 30 plus years.Great drummer! Even better guy.Love his sense of humor!!!!
Nicko clinics have a proven history as being one of the most fun experiences you can have as a drummer. The guy is so damned nice and he really loves being around his fans and drum family. It seems like just yesterday that I was a 16 year-old metal head on my way to the local Sonor dealer to watch Nicko get down on his gray anthracite with black hardware Phonic Plus kit! Good lord I'm old...
Thank you for your comment. I have seen paint colors like "carbon black" on 2001 and 2003 BMW M3 E46s, that look like a metallic flaked purple in sunlight but a deep black from a distance. I would love to get a drum set finished with that same color. New word for me: "Anthracite" (in your comment made me go to the dictionary... ) .... is a type of pure carbon coal and I assume the gray anthracite is the drum's color? Is that right? German engineered drum manufacturer, SONOR®,*** made the very first, used, 4-piece kit that my step father bought for me from one of his clients who owned a music store, but I had no idea (as an 8yr old) what quality level I had and made a mistake trading them in around the time I was 13, for a Slingerland® kit, just because the Slingerland® kit had an oversized bass drum and I basically guessed it would give me a deeper, penetrating sound like John Bonham's kit had. After a little research I discovered the following about the tech that goes into making Sonor® drum kits nowadays: ***"SONOR SQ²™ drums are custom instruments, hand made in Germany to your specific wishes with all the possibilities that the SQ² Configurator (www.sq2-drumsystem.com) offers. "Choose between four different shell materials, 160 different shell sizes, three different fittings choices and more than 260 different finish options. "Finish options are exotic exterior vertical veneers, exotic interior vertical veneers, satin lacquers, high gloss lacquers, solid lacquers, fade and burst finishes. Wrapped finishes are also available." Wow! My drum finish dreams coming true are that much closer to being realized!
Saw him when I was 15. I’ve always loved Iron Maiden. I love the way the drums and bass lines drive all of there songs. And the vocals are incomparable. Love them. Ran away from home when I was 16 and had my Walkman. Loneliness of a long distance runner was my song.
Wow, i like it so much to have the opportunity to see him alone, he has a great personality and he is a fine drummer! I like to see the technical merit of the guy behind the instrumentm his experience and his views. I'm an Iron Maiden fan since their debut, i love their music! Thanks Niko and keep on the good artistry work!
Because it is a Sonor. Amazing drums. So much better than what he is playing now. An offshoot of the now defunct Premier drum company. And, the Paistes complete the sonic perfection.
Absolutely marvellous to hear mcbrain talk about his early influence being joe morello at 20 minutes. Joe was a superb drummer who really had a different approach and a unique way of thinking, it's so lifting to hear so many different drummers being inspired by him, and especially his work with take five, as i was also inspired to play after hearing morello and his solo work. Superb video nicko and thanks for posting drummerszone!
Absolutely right. We wanted to do more as well but couldn't because of this first time ever event with an artist this big, and the quite small stage. This year at The UK Drum Show will be better though. And please visit if you can! It's truly a unique Drum Show in Europe.
Thank You for uploading this this is a show i wish i could have been to see ,, it is 8 years when i was at one off Nicko's drum shows and it was brilliant ,, well done to the young lad who got to batter the drums \m/ \m/ Nicko is near 70 and he doesnt show it with his drumming ( on the show or on stage with the band ) and i hope that theres a few more years still in him 5 stars
I like the comments from all of these wannabe drummers and Drum Techs, who would be crying for their mommies, half way through an Iron Maiden tour. Keyboard warrior know-it-alls. I saw Maiden on their Book of Souls tour. They did 117 shows, in 17 months, in 36 countries, across 6 continents. Now, those Maiden tour guys are what I would call, Drum Techs. We all know of course, that a bunch of nobodies on RUclips, would never show up late for a gig or tune a drum head wrong or mic a drum incorrectly. They're all super techs, who can set up any drum kit in their sleep at any venue of any size or shape with any sound system. They know what they're doing, because they jam in their grandma's garage every weekend and they gigged in their uncle's bar twice and they played at their cousin's wedding once and they almost played the main stage at the Sweet Potato Festival one year, but their singer got the flu and they had to cancel. But, no, seriously, we should listen them, because they totally know what they're talking about.
Nico is a really good drummer. Never read so many odd back-handed compliments.........feet, tune those higher. Heard him first on Pat Travers Album. Awesome! Nice man too. Bless Nico McBrain.
Got his stick at Somewhere in Time tour. He is a huge inspiration for my drumming. Blew my mind on Piece of Mind tour. Got to see them play Phantom of the Opera and To Tame a Land. Always wondered what Nicko could do with 2 kicks. ..🤔
A lot of the rolls he did on the bass drum back in the 80's was with his beater.... and his other foot. Yeah, old school technique of just kick the damn kick drum. What makes Nicko awesome is his ability to groove at any tempo, and any time signature or subdivision. And make it groove for metal. I still think his slickest groove in metal is "Sea of Madness" from Somewhere in Time, that main riff groove he lays down is just awesome.
Really awesome vid mate!! .. Huge thanks for sharing hey.. Nicko is an Icon and a real down to earth guy.. That kid was in heaven lol.... Hope he continues as it's not every day you get to Play on Nicko's kit... innit! Amazing story from an amazing drummer that's lived through a lot of musical styles over so many years... the first four Maiden albums Nicko was like a kid in a sweet shop. He was all over it and getting better with every record. As Steve's invention ran thin it reflected his playing which showed just how much Nicko relyed on the bass parts to be inventive and interesting. Things certainly changed when Bruce and Adrian came back but they never got back to the 80s period of brilliance. I love the Pat Travers gig on youtube. What a shame the audience had less life in them than zombies!
What strikes me firsthand, is he is NOT even using earpods (apparently) or double-bass effect. That is, if so, a true drummer in the absolute acoustic zone if I ever saw one!
You can't not like Nicko. He's a fantastic drummer. Great personality, energizing and interactive. Loved him from Piece of Mind and on and on and onnnn.
Absolutely! I met him in Raleigh NC a few years ago and he treated me like he had known me for years. A true legend and a class act.
The Maiden guys are just amazing.

What amazes me with Nicko's drumming style is that he is incredibly relaxed when he plays!
