Love these guys. Johan Hegg has such great diction in his vocals despite always growling. He's not hard to understand. Amon Amarth is underrated in the USA but not overseas, they are like Gods over there.
You missed a fantastic album though! With Oden on Our Side (the one before Twilight of the Thunder God) is where the production starts getting really good and that album is basically all bangers.
Johan Hegg has the looks and voice of a monster, but on stage or in interview he's always got such a nice smile on his face, I don't know but he seems genuinely like a lovely person. Also the band rocks, saw them 4 times I think and they always deliver
Once I came to another city for a Carcass concert. I was walking along the main square to pass the time and suddenly I saw Johan Hegg, who was apparently sightseeing. As it turned out, Amon Amarth also had a gig, either the previous day or the next. I plucked up the courage to walk over and ask for a photo. Johan did not seem to want to interrupt his walk, but he did't refuse me, patiently walked with me to the nearest passer-by, waited until the photo was taken, smiled in parting and showed the horns. Unfortunately, since then I have not been to their concert, but I hope that someday it will happen.
My Top 5 Amon Amarth songs. 1. Twilight of the Thunder God. 2. Destroyer of the Universe. 3. Cry of the Black Birds. 4. One Thousand Burning Arrows. 5. Raven's Flight.
The album art for Twilight of the Thunder God is Thor fighting Jormungandr during Ragnarok. Jormungandr is one of Loki’s children who is destined to bring the destruction of the Aesir gods and the nine realms
Tattered banners and bloody flags, valhall awaits me, the 2 top songs by this band, going to their concert at 8th of oct, been waiting for 11 fkn months
You're a legend! Amon Amarth are definitely a band you need to follow chronologically, for an average of at least 4 songs per album. They shaped their sound a lot throughout the years. Personally, I would've switched The Fall through Ginnungagap for 1000 Years of Oppression (or Under the Northern Star); Pursuit of Vikings for Runes to My Memory. Asator would've been a bonus because it's so quick; War of the Gods for For Victory or Death, maybe; and Raise Your Horn... I would probably change for As Loke Falls.
My top 10 Amon Amarth songs are, Crack the Sky, The Way of Vikings, Raven’s Flight, The Great Heathen Army, Heidrun, Guardians of Asgaard, Deceiver of the Gods, Fall Through Ginnungagap, The Pursuit of Vikings, and Twilight of the Thunder God.
Still pimping NeObliviscaris: Devour Me Colossus,Forget Not,Intra Venus,Icicles Fall,Painters Of The Tempest,And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope, and Pyrhhic are a good start . TBH it doesn't matter what songs you pick out of their catalogue because imo its flawless. Truly some great music.
Amon Amarth is a fuckin phenomenal band. Their live show is also insanely good! I genuinely love all their records and cant necessarily pick a favorite song, however i do have something for their song War of the Gods!
Lol she's like "There's a debate between whether it's . . ." like, that's just metalheads for you. Endless debate. Then she goes on and say "viking-themed melodic death metal, which I guess is a thing?" like, that's also just metlaheads for you. Endless classification.
These guys are sick live. They are on tour in the states right now. (Netgore from discord here) I'm seeing them in San Diego in December. You should really go
I think of it this way: Their aesthetic up until Surtur Rising is Demon Viking Longboat. You got this evil surf guitar, big splashy cymbals, beast in the back hammering the drum, and giant bearded guy at the front bellowing into the wind, ready to chop mofos in half.
They have some really good early songs though. Friends of the sun cross, once sent from the golden halls, god his son and the holy whore, and metalwrath are all bangers I do agree I generally don’t like their earlier sound as much as the “oden on our side through deceiver of the gods” era. And their 3rd album was the weakest of the first 3
27:58 you got viking metal, pirat metal, roman metal, mongol metal, maori metal... and you got all the fantasy metal, dwarven metal etc. in all of them the bands are playing music impersonating what they sing about.
Just gonna put this in here. I saw Amon Amarth (an actual introduction) on Slayer's final world tour, opening day at Ak Chin pavilion south of Phoenix Arizona. It was an early birthday present from my now ex gf. We went together. Cannibal corpse, amon amarth, lamb of God..."SLAYER ".
I must first of all thank you for a fun and wonderful made review (reaction) and honest, first i though this is gonna be "goffy" beautiful woman reacts to AA but through the video i really started to notice your skills with recording, mastering and i gotta tell ya, you got my respect as a "utuber". You are a pro and you have knowladge (sorry for my bad english) and that was awesome to see and listen too - keep doing it! And im a huge fan of AA since early days and i agree with you, Twilight and Sulfer is probebly the best records they done but there are also master pieces in older and newer records they done. Commercial yes, getting there more and more but as they run is as a firm... i dont care as long as they just doing this great show and makes everyday easier to go through. I dont care honestly what other people think or say. Ive been in to "Vikingar" since i started to learn about them in school back in mid 1970's and i think they are doing a great work just makeing people more aware and also open the intresst for this time period. I am also a swede so maybe that is the reason that ive alway love this "Vikingatema". A tip search for Hindrafjäll and you will hear/see loads of Vikinga bands that are playing traditional Vikinf music... there is a whole new world out there to put time in to listen and learn new things. but at last THANK YOU for a great review!
Awesome this made me sub. Im a metal fan from Sweden but i nevedr loved growling music because i love listening to lyrics too. BUT Johan Hegg is awesome because u can actually hear his growling and make out the lyrics. I especially love the old stuff with viking videos etc. songs like "Varyags of Miklagaard", "The Fate of Norns", "Versus the World", "Runes to My Memory", "Asator", "Deceiver of the Gods" and "Thousand years of oppression"
Highly recommend their latest albums. Berserker (2019) is freaking awesome! Specifically Shield Wall and Berserker on Stamford Bridge, the latter is one of my all time favorite AA songs. From their older catalog "Death in fire", "Fate of Norns" and "With Odin on our Side" are my all time must listens. All their songs get me going, but I really enjoy the mythos related works.
@@deralteheide7298 I didn't say Berserker is their latest album. I said "I highly recommend their latest albums." Meaning their last releases are all good. Berserker just happens to be the best of the recent releases IMO.

I don't know if I accept "Viking Metal" as a sub genre". "Pirate Metal" I do accept, because there is a clear (understanding of the) sound of pirates and the age of piracy. Even when it comes to specific instruments. Genres are sound, not theme of lyrics.
well technically Amon Amarth is a viking-themed melodic death metal band rather than "Viking Metal" as a genre. Traditionally the sub-genre Viking Metal originated from Black Metal influences. Bathory, Enslaved, Windir, Thyrfing and Einherjer are typical representative bands while to my taste Manegarm best incorporporate the viking feel into their sound but depending on the song and album the sound can range from Black Metal over Melodic Death to Folk Metal or pure folklore songs.
Read The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec. Great short and sweet dramatization of Angrboda and Loki's relationship and the births of their "monstrous" children and how Ragnarok (the end of the world) comes to pass.
You should do a comparison video of Masters of War. They recently re-recorded it. Masters of War was originally on The Avenger album 2002 and they did a 20 year anniversary re-recording. The difference is like night and day.
I think the original is way better. The new version has absolutely no bite and aggression compared to the original. And just correcting ya, Masters Of War is from The Crusher.
My thoughts on there albums are The first 2 (once sent from the golden hall and the avenger) go hard, great albums, great songwriting, the rough production added to the fiery and aggressive vibe and element, great era of the band The 3rd album (the crusher) is part of the same era, but you could tell it was time for a change, songwriting wasn’t as strong and it felt like a retread of the first 2. Some great songs though 4th and 5th album (versus the world and fate of norns) have some songs that are triumphs and some songs that are a bit too slow and plodding for my liking, overall great albums though. Albums 6 through 9 are perfection, the band hit their stride with oden on our side. this is the best era of the band, they found the perfect balance between sometimes being commercial and anthemic, sometimes brutal, and sometimes slow, emotional, and melancholic. Album 11 and 12 (berserker and the great heathen army) both have some straight up bangers, but I feel the band has become too commercial, for the most part they lost the brutality and riffs and solos brimming with emotion. If you like Amon Amarth plz check out "Heathen Foray" they are from Austria ,straight out my Hometown in Graz . Try out "Armored Bards" or "Weg" have Fun
If you like themed lyrics metal band…check out Nile. They sing about Egyptian Mythology while playing technical death metal. Great insane drumming from George Kollias. Nile has been around since late 90s so have plenty of material to hear their progression.
amon amarths best period as song writers and production is twilight of the thunder god and surtur rising imo, has high production value and very great guitar riffs, specially in songs like guardians of asgaard, embrace of the endless ocean, destroyer of the universe and slaves of fear from those 2 albums. not that their later albums are bad but they just dont have same effect on me as the older stuff from surtur rising and earlier. if i were rank the 5 songs you reacted to in this video: 1. twilight of the thunder god 2. war of the gods 3. pursuit of vikings 4. raise your horn 5. the fall of ginnungagap my top 5 songs of all their songs though: 1. across the rainbow bridge (versus the world, 2002) 2. guardians of asgaard (twilight of the thunder god, 2008) 3. embrace of the endless ocean (twilight of the thunder god, 2008) 4. varyags of miklagaard (twilight of the thunder god, 2008) 5. destroyer of the universe (surtur rising, 2011)
I’m Swedish and I feel like Kreator should’ve won. Their influence on the entire genre is way more than Amon Amarth has ever accomplished. They’re way better, too… in my opinion.
Kindly please react to The Faceless album Autotheism. Below songs have to listen in that order. BTW this album kick ass * 1 Autotheist Movement I: Create * 2 Autotheist Movement Il: Emancipate * 3 Autotheist Movement Ill: Deconsecrate
Fuck Yeah Amon Amarth!. I'm gutted you didn't hear "Arson" and "The Fate Of Norns" the story of these 2 songs is deep, actually this whole album's story is deep. And you skipped "With Oden On Our Side", you def missed out on hearing "Cry of the Black Birds" and "Under the Northern Star". Oh well it's cool you got to hear them.
Great video! If you're guys are interested, one of the best sources on RUclips for English speakers regarding Norse mythology would be Jackson Crawford's channel. He's an old Norse specialist. He also discussess old Norse culture in addition to its religion/mythology. Cheers!
Live Amon Amarth 🇸🇪❤️🤘🏻 btw if you like vikibg stuff the singer Hägg has a conpany called Grimfrost. They sell vikibg stuff and everything more or less i based on actual findings, they also have a lot of videos where they talk about the viking history. Finally.. I would like to recommend another swedish metal band, Orbit Culture.. the future of metal, they just released a new singel but whats cool about Orbit Culture.. listen to one song.. it is great.. listen to next and it is even better. They produce nothing but heavy bangers
Love Amon Amarth! Most of their songs deal with Norse Mythology and the viking lifestyle. Brothers of metal is another band that deals with Norse Mythology and they have a trilogy about Jormungadr, Fenrir and Hel. Well worth checking out. And of course TYR is another band delving into this mythology. the first ending to Dexter was terrible, but they kind of redeemed the series with final final series of last year. GOT's ending was horrible and cannot be saved. ever
That was definitely a mistake on youtube's part. Not only does it not end like that, but the mix doesn't sound how you're describing it. I'm not a fan of their older albums' mix/masters but it definitely doesn't have weird uneven hard-panning of guitars and stuff like you're saying haha. I think you got a bad youtube upload of the first song. I listened to the original on my CD copy to confirm haha.
Great reaction. Anyway, can i request your reaction to superb band from japan? The band is call "Lovebites" They all The Beautiful Queens heavy metal band right now in the earth. They are really really World class musicians. Phenomenal. Many reactor has been reaction to them. And they have a lot diehard fans like me😁. The fans called Wolfpack. New sub. I'd like to make a few suggestions of bands to check out, I know one of them was already mentioned in another video. Obituary Avatar Insomnium Nightwish Within Temptation Unleash the Archers
The only thing i will say Amon Amarth has no bad songs but you couldve chosen A MUCH BETTER song off of The Crusher album, The Fall Through Ginunngagap is the weakest track on the album. And you also missed With Oden On Our Side, that is the peak of Amon Amarth, every song is a banger and deserves a spot on here.
Watch out! You can notice substantial beard growth after listening to the Amon Amarth music!
Love these guys.
Johan Hegg has such great diction in his vocals despite always growling. He's not hard to understand.

If I sent you video, then you would of heard it before, and I'm not real good with phone stuff, anyway the band is Exodus, album is"Bonded By Blood"you can trust me on this,do your research,5 tracks, and all 9 tracks are Terrific, Tracks- Deliver Us To Evil, Metal Command,Pirahna,No Love and Strike Of The Beast,it's heavier and more talented than Slayeri,it's a Mike Tyson of Thrash.
If you like Amon Amarth plz check out "Heathen Foray" they are from Austria ,straight out my Hometown in Graz . Try out "Armored Bards" or "Weg" have Fun
not gonna stop telling that you NEED todo VEKTOR. you will love it.
If you like themed lyrics metal band…check out Nile. They sing about Egyptian Mythology while playing technical death metal. Great insane drumming from George Kollias. Nile has been around since late 90s so have plenty of material to hear their progression.
Nice reactions but how was the album “With Oden on our Side” skipped? Such a waste.
Their best recent released song in my opinion is Put your back into the oar. I love it and I recommend it.
Saxons and Vikings and the serpent’s trail are great songs off the new album
amon amarths best period as song writers and production is twilight of the thunder god and surtur rising imo, has high production value and very great guitar riffs, specially in songs like guardians of asgaard, embrace of the endless ocean, destroyer of the universe and slaves of fear from those 2 albums.
not that their later albums are bad but they just dont have same effect on me as the older stuff from surtur rising and earlier.
if i were rank the 5 songs you reacted to in this video:
1. twilight of the thunder god
2. war of the gods
3. pursuit of vikings
4. raise your horn
5. the fall of ginnungagap
my top 5 songs of all their songs though:
1. across the rainbow bridge (versus the world, 2002)
2. guardians of asgaard (twilight of the thunder god, 2008)
3. embrace of the endless ocean (twilight of the thunder god, 2008)
4. varyags of miklagaard (twilight of the thunder god, 2008)
5. destroyer of the universe (surtur rising, 2011)
I’m Swedish and I feel like Kreator should’ve won. Their influence on the entire genre is way more than Amon Amarth has ever accomplished. They’re way better, too… in my opinion.
The more popular metal always wins the polls unfortunately, but she did carcass wich lost, so maybe a kreator video someday
@@stevenbraykovich9710 hopefully
Personally I Perfere holding it clean Melodic death metal... And when in mood for "midlage music" I listen to Pure band in that genre.
No Runes to My Memory 😬
Got to see these guys a few years back with Cannibal Corpse, Lamb of God and Slayer!! 🤘🤘
Should have put on Victorious March and Across the Rainbow Bridge. Proper Amon Amarth.
You should react to.
Amon Amarth - Runes To My Memory.
Greatest band ever. Listen to Victorious March
Kindly please react to The Faceless album Autotheism. Below songs have to listen in that order. BTW this album kick ass

* 2 Autotheist Movement Il: Emancipate
* 3 Autotheist Movement Ill: Deconsecrate
Please kayia come back to extreme metal, we miss you
Fuck Yeah Amon Amarth!.
Cheers!
We want Beast in Black!
The band is call "Lovebites"
They all The Beautiful Queens heavy metal band right now in the earth. They are really really World class musicians. Phenomenal.

Insomnium
Nightwish
Within Temptation
Unleash the Archers
The only thing i will say Amon Amarth has no bad songs but you couldve chosen A MUCH BETTER song off of The Crusher album, The Fall Through Ginunngagap is the weakest track on the album. And you also missed With Oden On Our Side, that is the peak of Amon Amarth, every song is a banger and deserves a spot on here.
Hello, just commenting for the algorithm and to remind you to react to the Watershed album from Opeth PLEASE. Thanks.
