Välkommen till NATO.
Congratulations on your election, and welcome to the NATO Headquarters.
I really appreciate that you are here just three days after taking office.
This shows your long-standing commitment and support for Sweden’s membership in NATO.
As a close NATO partner, Sweden has made valuable contributions to the Alliance for many years.
You have well trained and professional armed forces;
high-end military capabilities;
and you already operate to NATO standards.
At our NATO Summit in Madrid, all Allies made the historic decision to invite Sweden and Finland to become members of NATO.
Joining the Alliance will make you safer,
NATO stronger,
and the Euro-Atlantic area more secure.
Your membership will strengthen the Alliance’s presence in the High North.
And deepen Nordic and Baltic defence cooperation.
As invitees, you are now integrating into NATO’s political and military structures.
And it is inconceivable that Allies would not act, should Sweden and Finland come under any form of pressure.
Many Allies have given security assurances to both countries.
NATO has increased its presence in the Baltic Sea region.
And we have been exercising and working together more than ever before.
The accession process for Sweden and Finland has been the fastest in NATO’s modern history.
Nearly all Allies have now completed their national procedures.
So, Prime Minister, I welcome your commitment to the Trilateral Memorandum signed by Türkiye, Sweden and Finland to strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
We all agree on the importance of the memorandum.
And the need to address Türkiye’s legitimate security concerns.
I welcome the major, concrete steps Sweden is taking to implement the Trilateral Memorandum.
Ending any restrictions on arms sales to Türkiye.
Significantly enhancing cooperation on counter-terrorism.
Prohibiting participation in terrorist organisations, including the PKK.
And working through the Joint Implementation Mechanism on issues such as extradition and terrorist financing.
We also agree that we must stand together as we face the greatest security crisis in a generation.
President Putin is failing in Ukraine.
But he has not given up on his brutal war of aggression.
So I welcome Sweden’s strong support for Ukraine with arms and ammunition, as well as humanitarian assistance.
NATO Allies will continue to support Ukraine’s right to self-defence.
For as long as it takes.
So, Prime Minister,
Thank you again for being here today, and for your strong commitment to NATO.
I look forward to working with you.
And to welcoming Sweden and Finland as NATO members.
So please, you have the floor.

The recent PM was exceptionally good for being a Socialist PM. She was light years better than most of her predecessors. I do feel sorry for her. She should have had her time in the lime light earlier in history.
But i do have high hopes for this new government. They seem to be a good team and be in a good head space.
The old socialist party is a disaster. Worked so hard for decades to destroy Sweden. Finally something good happens!

Almost all swedes speak english fluently.
Swedish people in general speaks quite good english, as its our 2nd landguige

While I have been somewhat positive regarding joining the alliance, I can't say the way we are achieving that is right. Firstly the process was done undemocraticly and there should have been a referendum like there was when Sweden joined the EU. I also don't like how we are going against human right laws by giving in to Türkiye's demands.

What with the Russian soldiers poring into Belarus could NATO not do a peace keeping corridor on the Belarus border within Ukraine or maybe a complete border corridor in Ukraine Bordering Russia and Belarus.

Sweden should immediately supply Ukraine with multiple Archer systems. We have 24 operational and an additional 24 on order. There's no reason for why we shouldn't be able to supply Ukraine with at least 10 of these systems.
I think better Sweden buy artillery amo to those that already are in Ukraine. It would take 1-2 month to train and handl archer system . Buy amo to those that Ukraine is already handling
We have 48, with another 48 on order.
You knoe how much it archer cost right? We have not many of them and doesnt really matter if we get 24 more or so. Still not enough, and we need them for our security.

What wonderful news, I have loved these two countries & their people since i visited while living in Switzerland in the 90s. Beautiful countries filled with beautiful people. Wishing you both a prosperous future free from any risk of Russian terrorism. Putin must be just pickled with him self to have helped an increase in NATO memberships with his cowardly genocidal war against Ukraine. Good on you NATO for welcoming these two wonderful countries to your fabulous anti terrorism alliance. Of all the major foreign and security policy screwups Putin had, THIS one ranks up there. He didn't want NATO on his border. Now he has one that is over 1000km long; and within interdiction distance of the main (really only) road between Murmansk and the WSA for the Northern Fleet. This also renders the Baltic Fleet essentially useless and makes the Baltic a NATO lake.
When someone as arrogant as Putin surrounds himself with yes-men then they tend to think every idea they have is right and can be successfully implemented. Of course, when failures comes, they blame other people or double down on their stakes as admitting to failure is not an option.
Good for you, the brutes shant be the victors, it means a lot to all the West to have an upright and shining member such as yourselves. Congrats to all involved.
