    What makes this such a good win was that Quincy Watts ran one of the greatest 400 metre legs ever.

    Great team effort. According to Derek it takes
    P = Personal
    R= Respect
    I= Innovation
    D= Decision
    E= Eyes on star,feet on the ground

    Still a race I always come back to watch. Everything felt so wrong about the set up of the team but they got it right and top trumped the Americans.

    Perfect run from the Brits.. the next year they only got the bronze because they didn’t put Chris on the last leg. In this era. They needed Chris to always run the last leg.

      Don't know what the split times were in Barcelona, but here Regis was actually FASTER than Akabusi! I think Petagrew run a very poor leg by his standard.

      The Barcelona splits were all disappointing vs 1991... Black 45.2 (vs 44.7 in Tokyo), Grindley 44.65 (vs Redmond’s 44.0 - contrary to popular belief his leg was easily the fastest on the GB team in 1991), Akabusi 45.1 (vs Regis 44.2 in Tokyo - Kris may have won Olympic bronze at 400H but his flat speed was declining) and Regis 44.74 (vs Kris’ 44.59 in 1991). Basically none of them were in as good a form (exc Grindley who was the new boy). Roger had been injured, Redmond was out in his semi final with his dad helping him over the line, John Regis was also nowhere near his blistering 1990 best (20.1 200m, 43.9 split in 4x400m - he looked a lot leaner then), and Kris was about to retire....

      The Americans had Michael Johnson and ran a WR. Britain were never gonna win Barcelona.
