They are Legend. Of course, Steve Perry is one of the best vocalist I've ever listen. Lay it Down, separate ways, and don't stop believin is my favorite.
Journey gave Steve Perry an ultimatum to either get the hip surgery or get on the road. So with that being said Steve Perry didn't sit well with the that so as he said I quote " the divorce began " And he also told them that there was no comming back and he truly meant that. Yes greed did get the best of them but we all know who had the keys to this gem of a band. Steve Perry made Neal and the guys millions! He is the voice!
My list of favorite songs from this band are: 1. Don't Stop Believin' 2. Faithfully 3.When You Love A Woman 4. Open Arms 5. Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'
JOURNEY THROUGH THE YEARS (1973-1986) (1973-1974) Neal Schon: guitar George Tickner: guitar Ross Valory: bass guitar Prairie Prince: drums Gregg Rolie: keyboards, vocals (This lineup initially formed under the name of the Golden Gate Rhythm Section, whose original intent was to participate in recording sessions for albums by acclaimed Bay Area artists. Both Schon and Rolie were former members of Santana, and had hooked up with George Tickner, Ross Valory and manager Herbie Herbert, all of whom were formerly with Frumious Bandersnatch; former Tubes drummer Prairie Prince rounded out this initial lineup but would leave to rejoin the Tubes just prior to the recording sessions for Journey's 1975 self-titled debut album and the band replace him with British session ace Aynsley Dunbar, who had recently performed with David Bowie in his backing band The Spiders from Mars and later with Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. Valory had also been a regular in the Steve Miller Band for some time.) (1974-1975) Neal Schon: guitar George Tickner: guitar Ross Valory: bass guitar Aynsley Dunbar: drums Gregg Rolie: keyboards, vocals (Tickner left the group after the recording sessions for the band's debut album to become a doctor, leaving Schon as the band's sole six-string guitarist until Jonathan Cain joined.) (1975-1977) Neal Schon: guitar, vocals Ross Valory: bass guitar, vocals Aynsley Dunbar: drums Gregg Rolie: keyboards, vocals (Schon and Valory both take turns providing lead vocals alongside Rolie for the band's second and third albums, Look Into the Future and Next, in hopes of getting more record sales.) (Mid-1977) Robert Fleischman: lead vocals Neal Schon: guitar Ross Valory: bass guitar Aynsley Dunbar: drums Gregg Rolie: keyboards, vocals (Despite Next having broken into the Top 100 of the Billboard 200 chart, where it went to number 85, CBS Records, frustrated by the lack of record sales at this point, try to get the band to hire an actual lead singer. They first try Robert Fleischman, but he was eventually a no go and therefore, this issue grew deeper until they finally settle on Steve Perry, a former singer with Alien Project, which broke up after their bassist died in a car crash. Despite Fleischman's very short tenure, he still helped Journey out on a few songs for their 1978 album Infinity, including "Wheel in the Sky.") (1977-1978) Steve Perry: lead vocals Neal Schon: guitar Ross Valory: bass guitar Aynsley Dunbar: drums Gregg Rolie: keyboards, vocals (Steve Perry's arrival finally turns Journey's flagging fortunes around, with Infinity becoming a top 30 hit on the Billboard 200, but there would be more changes ahead: in this case, Dunbar was fired from the group after an argument with Perry over creative differences and was soon replaced by former Montrose drummer Steve Smith. Five years later, Neal Schon would also run into Montrose's former singer Sammy Hagar -- who by then had a successful solo career and would later join Van Halen -- to put together the supergroup HSAS which also included session bassist Kenny Aaronson and former Santana percussionist Michael Shrieve.) (1978-1980) Steve Perry: lead vocals Neal Schon: guitar Ross Valory: bass guitar Steve Smith: drums Gregg Rolie: keyboards, vocals (After over a decade of touring in two different bands, Rolie quits Journey in order to start a family; after the end of their Japanese tour in October 1980 the band replace him temporarily with Stevie "Keys" Roseman before finally picking up Jonathan Cain from The Babys) (1981-1986, 1995-1996) Steve Perry: lead vocals Neal Schon: guitar Ross Valory: bass guitar Steve Smith: drums Jonathan Cain: keyboards, rhythm guitar, vocals (During the recording sessions for Raised on Radio, both Valory and Smith were fired by Perry, Schon and Cain over creative differences; various bassists and drummers were hired on different tracks, including future American Idol judge Randy "Dawg" Jackson and session man Larrie Londin.)
Did you guys ever hear the story of the band that became so obsessed with their 1st majorly popularly talented lead singer's voice and act, that they took him to court to prohibit him from using it and from making us great songs and didn't stop there, but spent their money and resources and decades searching the whole earth for a way to in the most aoutlandish musical robbery and bizzare story of obssession in open mtv times, mimmic his voice by any who might, knowing not ever any other way that music works, but thru him, never thereafter scoring any other type of hit in any other song other than those sang by their strange religious musical idol and former lead singer? -the vengence of justice speaks back from the past!
When Journey was on VH1’s “Behind the Music”, both Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain admitted that before and after the Perry era was the golden era of journey. WRONG!
'Others, on and off'? Prairie Prince was the original drummer for Journey, George Tickner played rhythm guitar on the first album before leaving for medical school.
no steve did not want to but, they said get on the road or get hip surgery but he did not pick so they fired him but its not there choice, steve is the one which needs surgery
yes. he was amazing when he was with them.. but the others where about the fans an playing for them.. as they have worked hard at doing!! he didn't even stay an greet fans after the shows... I don't think the others are trying to be Steve Perry they are just helping keep journey alive an playing for fans!
I'm so frustrated that I was born in 2005. I want to see Journey in concert but I refuse to give Arnel Penadia a chance because he's not Steve Perry. And Steve STILL hasn't toured his new album Traces and he completely missed his chance due to the awfulness of 2020. The only band I like that is still good because they still have their original frontmen is KISS but they're going to be done in July of 2021 and Dad is probably not going to take me not only because that will be close to my birthday and that's when I'm likely going to get my new iPhone, but also I think they said from somewhere that is going to be somewhere in Europe and that's too far away from California, my home state.
Glee ruined Don't Stop Believen' FOR TODAY'S music. What about Family Guy??? Better then Glee, can tell you that. At least in Family Guy, they gave it their best at sing. Glee their like "Eh, AUTO TUNE HERE WE GO!"

Fav band of all-time! Steve Perry for life!!
Who else agrees you can't replace Steve perry?
Brandon Garcia Me! No sound alike could EVER take his place! Nice guy, I'm sure, but he's NOT him. Sorry.
Brandon Garcia I could... LOL... I'm kidding... but I actually like Steve Augeri, Jeff Soto Otto and Arnel Pineda
me too steve augeri and jeff soto otto are both underrated singers
Brandon Garcia I believe, almost everyone!!!
Totally agree! Arnel Pineda ruined the band to me. His accent is just no good. It sounds wrong to me anyway.

Literally and when I saw that, reminded me of "21 Jump Street".
I hate how they replaced Perry because the other guys were to greedy to let him recover. Now it is just a cover band.

Yes, I agree. Please, do Kiss! :)
Yes, I agree. Please, do Kiss! :)
The only issue with that is that Glee kind of ruins most of the music they cover. Hell, not even My Chemical Romance's Sing was covered well.
