  • Triumph have answered our prayers and are bringing us a brand new Triumph Daytona!!! But hang on though, this is based on the dumbed down 660 triple platform not the raucous 765 from the Street Triple? Is this the REAL thing??? Stay tuned to find out!

    Seems like we are going back to the days of the late 90s 600 sports bikes with just shy of 100bhp comfort and handling. Perfect bikes in the day. This has the potential to be excellent.

    The Daytona name should’ve been reserved for the Street Triple RS with a fairing. That would truly do it justice and would be like a road going moto2 bike.
    This one looks like a nice bike for the price but should’ve been called something new IMO

      I guess Triumph could do what they do with the Speed Twin . Now they have the 1200 released in 2019 , and the street twin is now a Speed Twin 900.
      i.e. they could release a Daytona 765 , call this one the Daytona 660.
      The Speed Triple RR, with fairing and drop handle bars could be called a Daytona 1200 !
      Mind you this could end up a bit like Kawasaki calling lots of their bikes a ninja !!!!
      I am sort of with you, the Daytona name should have been reserved to a top spec middle weight sports bike.

    Triumph are focusing on giving new riders options right now. Hence the 660 platform & the new 400s. I know everyone wanted a 765RS Daytona with Brembos & Öhlins. But the simple matter is, that would've pushed the price above what young riders can afford.

    Wow! That's a great looking bike! I rode the 660 when it first came out, and liked it, but was swayed by the 660 Aprillia that came out back then to. Value looks to be very good, and I love that engine. A friend has a 765 with an Arata titanium aftermarket exhaust that sounds scintillating at 10,000rpm. This new Daytona, with a pipe like that could be awesome... I can't wait for them to arrive in Canada.

    From all the reviews I've read so far this has been well received, congratulations to Triumph on this and the price point too.
    Given Triumph's expansion into a newer segment, I was chatting to a friend in the industry & asked if they thought Triumph might deliver us a brother for the Tiger 660 with a 1200 engine and maybe with a fairing for touring. He thought not as the Tiger 900/1200 delivered for the touring segment, but these are adventure bikes surely not sports tourers?
    Surely the sports touring market is larger than sports bikes? Is it not an open goal therefore to develop a 1200 Sprint and challenge the success enjoyed by Ninja z1000sx and Suzuki gsx-s1000?
    It won't appeal to young riders and older riders are a declining population - yet look at the popularity in Kawasaki & Suzuki tourers!

They closed and now I would have to drive 100 mi. to Louisville Ky. now. So I by local bikes now. Harley's, and the big 4's Japanese bikes. I just bought a 2023 ZX4RR and fail in love with it. It's going make a great economic sport tourer. I also own 2 Harleys.

    Lovely bike but once again I feel that the Marketing team in Hinckley have no idea about the history and heritage of Triumph, probably straight out of uni. After their resurgence, I just hope that Triumph doesn't make the mistakes of it's past and lose the plot. Harley started to come off the rails a few years back turning itself into more of a lifestyle and clothing company and making adventure and electric bikes that no body wants.

    It’s a very attractive price with very respectable specs for that price. I would imagine that their competitors are a bit worried. Still not sure ultimately how many sales there will be in this segment - so many older used bikes available from the last time midrange sports bikes were popular with same/similar specs for less than half the price - which would be a far better bet for track days too.

The roads now are really to crowded and poorly surfaced to use a real sports bike anymore. Unless hospital food or a night in the cells sounds appealing.

      This isn't going to attract a newbie girl rider getting into the sport.. I'm all for that, but to destroy the inconic DAYTONA badge assocaited w/ high performance competive world championship winning sportbikes is a sin.. If TRIUMPH is going to do this, why not use the their capital to build a large bore 1255cc Daytona .. using the bones of th Speed Trip 1200, new nose, fairngs . offer a ton of accessories .. how hard could it be. The diff bewteen the Daytona 955 fairied and Speed Triple 1050 are simple brackets to attach fairings.. Triumph builds enough beginner bikes.. they should have offered a fairinbg kit for the Trident and called it a day....poor investment..

    • @Ellisian
      @Ellisian 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@carlmayer691 doesn't seem impossible for them to do that later, surely there's nothing stopping them from making another larger daytona down the line? i love the daytona 675/765, but the reality is that this new version is a lot more sensible for a broader audience; bikes are expensive, and dedicated supersports are an increasingly smaller niche. as for this not bringing women into motorcycling, idk where your opinion on that cancels out mine but as that exact demographic i can 100% say this bike (and the triumph 660s in general) are an extremely attractive entry point into motorcyling hahah

      Lots of those riders shown are quite small, perhaps the same ones used to showcase the 400s, making it look more extreme than it is. Very similar rider triangle to the CBR650R, which for me at 5'11", is a perfect do everything position.

    Aprilia RSS660, other than the 43 pound (18 Kg) handicap. Would certainly be on the very short list. As long as it handles well- I'm sure it does- it would shake off the Trident start point!

    this looks like a great upgrade from my r3. i dont want another twin, 100hp seems about perfect and the relaxed ergos are a welcome addition after riding a friends r6 a few times. i wish there was more non ptwin competition in this segment as this and the zx4 are the only bikes that are on my maybe list. in my country we have a crap version of the cbr650r with only 50hp, would be a perfect road bike otherwise.

    Styling wise it looks fantastic, so why did Triumph only have one headlight working on dipped beam, it looks like the light on the other side has blown, surely more lights on during the day is safer and would look more complete. Hope your shoulder is on the mend.

    Triumph said the maintenance costs on my Tiger 660 were lowest in the class, yet it’s way more expensive than my Z900! I think it will sell well though, but as I have the Tiger 660, I won’t be getting one of these.

    Personally prefer the looks of the R7, and am kinda iffy on this being the design of the new Daytona, as the 675 is still my favorite looking bike ever.
    Proof will be in the pudding when reviewers get a go on them, but I feel like it's in a bit of a tight spot when there's the street triple and the 2000s Daytonas still knocking around for very cheap on the used market.
    Realistically I'm probably just biased by the fact I used to fantasize about the olde bike when I was in secondry school, and still do, and this isn't that. :)

    Mid range sportsbikes died in the UK years ago. I remember people complaining about Suzuki dropping the GSXR600, I think they sold about 13 bikes in the UK the previous year! The same for the ZXR6. They are probably better bikes for the road than the 1000cc sportsbikes, (personally I find small 4cyl bikes pretty gutless with all the power in the wrong place for the road) but in the UK macho bragging rights still rule, so big bike outsell smaller bikes.

  • @AFJDM
    @AFJDM 6 месяцев назад

    I'm considering a middleweight sports bike in a year or so. The Suzuki GSX-8R doesn't look bad, but nowhere near as good as this and it's gonna have a buzzy parallel twin, not as much power as this bike. The Honda CBR650R looks great as well, but that four cylinder needs to be revved to the moon to get the power and it's somewhat heavy in its class. This feels like the ideal child of the class from looks, price, power, characteristics, and approachability. Really looking forward to seeing them in the U.S.!

    Looks like a standout machine in the category, I own a Tuono 660 Factory edition and it’s been brilliant, but the price premium over this Daytona is considerable. The Daytona at this price point gives hope to an eventual Tiger Sport 660 receiving comparable power plant attention and electronics including the addition of cruise control; that done, and I’m sold.. I’m just not interested in Triumph’s “adventure” format 800/900 Tiger machines. Though on most fronts they meet the criteria for a lighter sport touring application, the “GS” patterned “look” and 19” front wheels are a bore, and the ridiculous amount of space given up to the exhaust can in lieu of a full sized pannier on both sides of the machine really cuts into travel worthy functionality. Get your finger out of it Triumph.

    Lovely looking bike. The only part of the blurb I don't agree triumph should push is the 10k mile service intervals. My trident 660 came up to a year before 10k mileage. It had covered 8750miles. They then expected me back when the bike reached 10k for another service. Was my only gripe with bike however and if this Daytona puts a smile on your face like the Trident did mine then my question is does it matter if its a "true" daytona. If it puts a grin on your face it's all that matter 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  6 месяцев назад +1

      That doesn't sound quite right....think your dealer pulled a fast one there. In my case I never do the mileage on my bikes the service intervals state so I just do yearly services (or every two years if the bike has done less than 400 miles)....which sadly some do!

    • @splodge5714

      I totally agree with you guys. After a few emails back n forth they backed down. My argument was the service book doesn't have a place for both mileage and age. In their defence the triumph service schedule on their system shows the 10k has air filter change and the mileage based service doesn't. Either way I was able to avoid two service costs in one year. 😉. Thanks for the reply guys.

    Sure it is a much right to tne name as a Daytona as the 675 does. Do anybody remembers there was a 1972 500cc Daytona, then a 1996 Daytona 1200c then a 1997 T595 Daytona 955ccs. The 675 wasn't the first., 2nd or even 3rd Daytona so the fifth Daytona has a much right to the name as the 675 does.
    The 675 was a track oriented sport bike Daytona, this is road oriented sport bike Daytona.
