The sad part isn’t even that 40 people died, it’s the fact that there were many people that saw the plane crash, but instead of helping survivors some of them started looting parts of the plane.

The manner of the crash meant it caused the cockpit to break off and nearly everyone in that section were killed (40)
But the rear still kept sliding forward until it rolled. The intense rain didn’t allow the fire to consume the fuselage so quickly and everyone seated behind now 58 survived.

This was one of the crashes that was featured in an older ACI intro. Idk if the one it's in is still used, but as soon as I saw the actual crash animation I knew that I recognised it from the intro.
All clips in intros are from actual episodes, and yes this was included in one of the older seasons and i think it was the season 12 - 17 intro

I think there was a trainee pilot at the time of the accident
The captain went in the cabin and took a break from flying. The hail (the storm) kept breaking the cockpit glass and the trainee behind the Firest ofdicer went in the captain's seat and they both knew they wont let the cockpit glass break so they went in a steep descent not looking at their controls

This crash was caused cuz there was no trainee. Something happened to hos seatbelt so he was sitting in the cabin instead other than sitting in the cockpit. Thats why u need a trainee no matter what it is.

NOW I AM NOT LYING my mums friend Paola was on that flight and was thankfully a survivor my mum and her a both from Peru talked about it years ago and i know what happened on this flight at he start the co-pilot witch is a trainee his seatbelt was broken on one side at the start of the flight so when they take off the plane was hit with heavy hail witch got clamped into the engine and made them descended really quickly the trainee was told to look at the descending rates but that is one mistake because he is untrained and what happened the trainee was looking out the window to see what happened and they got the call to pull up and the pilot did that and the mistake was that he didn`t pull the throttle up and they crashed into the jungle the survivors were saved and the pilots and 38 others died
If your moms friend was seated in the nose ( the fuselage that is ahead of the wings ) of the plane, she is really lucky, because only 3 survived in that section
