LOVE the tip of “ embracing the Dark Side “ %100 this gives the interview so much more depth and interest. The “filming scenes" is so important, as an editor I love when i get work from a DOP who shoots sequences, that is how you SHOW a story IMO. Another great video Austin, thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts . Finally, yes I agree, sometimes LESS IS MORE !

You got a DOP in me who will shoot sequences if you ever are lookin for someone ;)

I have to say I absolutely love that. You’re an advocate for animals. All my friends, family, and coworkers think I am nuts, but I will never drive past an animal without feeding them! I donate monthly to organizations and I frequently rescue animals lately it’s been Cats and I’ve even rescued seagulls. I think it’s awesome that you are an animal advocate. As I am writing this in my workshop I’m watching the possum that I feed in my yard. Keep up the great work.

I always duplicate sequences/timelines before fundamental changes: interview multicam done - draft cut done - picture lock - color page - audio page. ✌

Thanks for the video, Interesting to hear your journey, and what you've found to help along the way. One small thing on the duplicating sequences, this alternative isn't ideal and definitely wouldn't rely on it, but if you've forgotten to duplicate your sequence you can go into auto save folder and you can generally find an earlier saved version of the project file that has an earlier version of the sequence that be what you are looking for. Like I said, not something to rely on but is a potential alternative if you haven't taken that step you mention.

An addition to the bubble level, for panning, especially with wider lenses it's good to play with the position of the camera back and forth and find the spot where it spins around the "optical center" of the system. Experiment a little bit, to see the difference in the perspective during the pan.

@@TheStorytellersMidasDaphne you got this! 💪 you’re definitely in the right place. I’m sharing all my best advice here on the channel. Specific to you, I would think about your story structure and be editing (either in your editing software or on paper) as you go. Don’t film everything for 2 months and then try to make sense of it in the edit. Try and have a bit of direction as you go so that you aren’t wading through endless footage after the trip!
