I am not sure you understand how much joy and contentment you all (meaning your little family of three, your friends and family in China, and *now* your friends and family in Uganda) bring to so many people.
For the husband to cook in the difficult stone oven to feed his ln laws was his way of showing how much he loves and appreciates his wife who taught herself to be proficient in speaking Chinese and learn to cook for him and their Chinese friends. It is a display of affection and respect with understanding they have for each other. I wish you all the best.

On my street we have Filipino, Chinese, Korean, Iranian, white American, Indian…and everyone keeps to themselves. So sad. Our kids don’t play with each other either. Saf

That was so sweet of him to cook for everyone. I’m sure it made him feel more at home there to make food he is familiar with. Rose, you said what I’ve been thinking, it would be great for your family to have an actual cooking stove area similar to what you have at home in China. There will be differences because your family doesn’t use woks to cook, for example, but a structure off the ground would be amazing for them. I say it would be amazing because it can’t be easy physically to have to bend over and stoop and crouch all the time when cooking.

Yes I agree! I live in Los Angeles California and we don’t have this same feeling of community eve though we have so many cultures here. On my street we have Filipino, Chinese, Korean, Iranian, white American, Indian…and everyone keeps to themselves. So sad. Our kids don’t play with each other either. Saf

Rose, you said what I’ve been thinking, it would be great for your family to have an actual cooking stove area similar to what you have at home in China. There will be differences because your family doesn’t use woks to cook, for example, but a structure off the ground would be amazing for them.
I say it would be amazing because it can’t be easy physically to have to bend over and stoop and crouch all the time when cooking.
It looks so good. I even wanted to try it. Rose, I think your family enjoyed it. You have a wonderful husband. His love for you is endless. He'll figure out a way to build that stove too.
