    I think I am going through shin byeong. My Grandmother (and Mother)is Korean, and she was said to have gone through this. Both my Father and Brother have died early, my first fiancee abused me for 2 years, and I still suffer from PTSD. I now stuffer from fibromyalgia and and rheumatoid arthritis. The only thing that hasn't happened is the Gods showing themselves to me in dreams, but what has happened is that Hawaiian God's have appeared to me and African God's have appeared to me. I wonder if it's because maybe I'm mixed? Most often in my dreams I find myself dancing hula with the Gods in total ecstasy and wholeness. It scares me as I am Christian. I haven't had any delusions. But I have MANY premonitions and visions. I have also scared myself because I have in my childhood cursed my brother out of anger and caused him to get injured in a car accident. I've also caused people to immediately trip and fall by looking at thier ankles. It scares me. Because both my Mother and I have these abilities....

    Fascinating learning...you’re saying it all correctly. I’m a pagan/Wiccan, witch..I’m an initiate in my tradition, takes at least 3 years training we have even more after my level. Many of us in my tradition either have physical problems. I do. I’m disabled actually. It’s interesting that such things would be in your tradition to. Seems to be a theme with witches, my pantheon is British isles. They def chose me. I’m of multiple cultures, my fam’s mixed and mingled. Irish/ Scottish are two of them. I’m connected especially to the Irish gods..I’m also descended of an Ojibwe Chief who was a very strong shaman..many of my fam have spiritual leanings. Korean gods are def regional. Some gods don’t ‘travel’ I had the wonderful pleasure of living in Korea for almost a year with a lovely local family. Korea has a special spot in my heart. Congrats! On your path..,your ancestors follow you no matter how far away you are. The echoes are there I’m glad Korea is trying to bring back the traditions, so many beautiful ones to hold on to

    Hi there. My name is Susie Chong (real name 정 소이). I really appreciate this video because it made it much easier to understand my shamanistic routes because I feel it boiling in my veins, but I immigrated to Hawaii when I was three so there’s a language barrier when I watch Korean documentaries. Do you happen to live in California? Specifically Los Angeles, California? I am in an extreme need of Korean spiritual healing. I was born in Korea in 1992 and I’m probably 100% Korean and maybe a little Mongolian or whatever. But I moved to Hawaii when I was three years old and then to Los Angeles when I was 21 so I’m looking for modern day, American Korean shaman healer, I’ve experienced everything that you said with the exception of dying. The times that I’ve died is when I’ve killed myself or OD’d many times but people revived me. I’ll leave it at that. I know this is an old video so I hope you’re still following the comments. I’m hoping we could do a telehealth meeting, possibly? I’m at my wits end. I’m not sure what to do anymore.

    In the Philippines, shamans (both the precolonial Babaylan and postcolonial albularyo/a) are protected by the Philippine laws and they would even give rewards to long time practitioners as well. I hope and I pray that they would do the same for you as well. As an esoteric practitioner who is initiated from a Taoist Lineage, Western magick practitioner and an eclectic albularya, I find your tradition very beautiful. I wish it would be preserved for the next generations to come. Blessed be :)

      THE MUDANG Can you do video(s) on the deities & mythical creatures? It’s be cool if you did a series of videos of each one explaining all the myths, rituals & views towards that specific entity & everything but I feel that’s asking for too much.
      If it is, then 1 general video of the deities & another 1 about all the mythological creatures is fine. 😅

    I am half korean and half american. I lived in Korea for a while when I was younger but we've lived in the states since I was 7 so I lost touch with my korean heritage as my American family believed were in America so we needed to b american. Even though my mom(who is my korean half) brought us up Christian it didn't feel right. I believe jesus was real but I've always believed in many gods and spirits. I researched some of the other religions and different pantheons and although I'm drawn to some Greek and some Norse beliefs they still didn't feel right. Not all of the korean rituals and ceremonies r going to b practical for us living in America and I just wanted to say thank you for recording this and doing this

    I hope Shamanism, which is the NATIVE spiritual beliefs of the Korean people is revived and young Koreans start to appreciate and promote. South Koreans, especially the older ones have blindly embraced Christianity because they believed it would lead to them being more 'modern'. This of course we know in 2018, is utter bullshit.The respect and worship of all in Nature as Divine is such a beautiful concept.

    • @niamtxiv

      +Weaving Fate Yes. Any shaman from any culture can perform soul retrieval, healing and oracles... but initiation has to be done by a wise shaman from the same culture if you're going through shamanic illnesses. I am from Sacramento, CA. I'm not Korean, but I have my own experience and is waiting for my initiation. It has been a torture emotionally, physically, spiritually, socially and etc.. I can relate to what you've mentioned. I knew something was strange when I had my first dream visitation. Dream is often the first start. =D

    • @themudang
      @themudang  8 лет назад

      +niam txiv Our traditions are different from many shamanic traditions. They do share some similarities, but each tradition is standalone of their own right. Like I mention in the video, I have not had an initiation as it's only possible in Korea. For us diasporic Koreans who are afflicted, I was led to create a self-initiation ritual that helps ease the effects of spirit illness. Unfortunately it does not and cannot completely banish the illness, as that's only possible with an initiation in Korea. Hope that clears it up.

    • @niamtxiv
      @niamtxiv 8 лет назад

      +Weaving Fate Yes, each culture is different; however, there are some core similarities. Initiatory illness which often starts with dream visitation follow by other signs and symptoms. It must be hard on Diasporic Koreans. I haven't met any Koreans that walk this path. In my culture, there are shamans in almost every clans and it is very very strong among my people. Yes, the illness is always there as most shamans can be prone to psychic attacks, spirit sickness and so forth during rituals. Sadly, I've tired self-initiation but it is impossible in my own journey. Few individuals from my culture were able to do self-initiations, but the gods that came to me refuse to come without proper rituals conduction. I hope other Korean Americans can come across your videos.

      +niam txiv Indeed. I bid you good luck and hope you can achieve your official initiation soon! A couple Korean diaspora people actually have already reached out to me, and I'm so relieved to be able to help them as well. :)

    • @themudang
      @themudang  6 лет назад +1

      Please contact me through my website (themudang.weebly.com) or facebook (facebook.com/mudangnim).
      If you don't live close enough to physically visit, you can still support a mudang and pay them to do 기도 prayer ritual for you, which is a spiritual service to have your prayers answered and do offerings on your behalf.
      Mudangs are the only ones capable of taking care of temple/shrines.
      Korean shamanism isn't only about "seeking mudang". We do a huge range of spiritual services, such as exorcisms, temple/shrine care, prayer rituals, making talismans and other grand ceremonies for various things (like helping someone with cancer).
      You can look into performing jesa 제사 for your ancestors during the huge festivals (lunar new year and ch'useok, korean thanksgiving). Most laypeople just do this and support a mudang by commissioning them to do 기도 on their behalf.
