Isn't all Korean food technically meant to be eaten with family or friends since Koreans are socially conditioned to never eat alone? I've seen evidence of this.
BBQ is fun after all. But I have a doubt isn't soy sauce unhealthy buy people in korea and Japan consumes it on a daily basis on every dish and in their most healthy dishes also there is soy sauce but isn't soy sauce super unhealthy then how come it is used in their healthy dishes also. And lastly they eat it raw also isn't it more super dangerous ? I am really curious about it can someone please explain it to me?
As a Korean, your recipe looks yummy. Many Korean like marinated meat on a grill but when we think of Korean BBQ, it's normally fresh meat without marinated and enjoy with various kind of fresh vegetable and condiments. The point of Korean bbq is grilling on top of a dining table so that we can have hot piping grilled meat in our mouth.
That's why chadolbaegi is perfect for the grill, unmarinated and thinly cut so it cooks fast. I just pull it off the grill straight to a perilla with rice and samjang
Lolol I was going to make this post too. But I think American cuts of meat aren’t as good as Korean ones so they have to marinade it lol this makes me want some dwenjangjjiggae though 😂
I found a large electric griddle of sorts from H-Mart which is an Asian grocery store chain. Relatively cheap. We have two of them now and we've done several nights hosting friends and family and doing Korean BBQ at home. Thankfully the store also sells tons of Korean BBQ cuts already marinated or just raw and ready to go. It's really fun for a get together or pot luck game night that we do all the time.

This was very amusing to watch with Josh's reaction and that godly scream with the falling cucumber. I will say that the best korean grills are from H-Mart, but the one he has is perfectly good. It was interesting to see him using honey, typically you don't use honey much in Korean dishes but it looks good. However he forgot the raw onions, peppers, and garlic that your supost to have as well.
This layout looks delicious but is definitely in need of korean pickled radishes. Crunchy bursts of sour/sweet goodness that really add to the experience.

As someone who lives in Seoul... I can tell you that you missed some of the key side dishes that are generally used in KBBQ here. Raw garlic thinly sliced to eat however you please, maybe wrapped up in lettuce with meat. WHOLE Cheongyang chili peppers (green peppers) on the side that you consume raw, for a kick of spice. Whole mushrooms to throw on the grill are common. Never ever seen potatoes served here either but looks yum. Other than that... thumbs up. Sauces look Noice. Josh can you do Dak-galbi? Seriously one of the best ways to eat chicken hands down.
Great video also some friendly tips from your resident half Korean viewer. I would advise to make pa juri as a delicious and easy side side but you can also flex your chef skills with the prep. Also gamja in Korean is potato so by saying gamja potato... You get it. Great stuff. Definitely recommend Korea BBQ to bond family friends and enemies alike. ;) Keep up the great content josh
Hi Jesse, I think Cheongyang gochu is probably too spicy for most. Do you agree that mushrooms should have their stalks removed and cooked upside down until mushroom water forms in the little crater where the stalk was and that water is then poured into a shot of soju. As you probably know, rumor has it that adding this mushroom water into your soju reduces hangovers. Though in Korea, it’s pretty standard to literally go get an IV to recover from an excessive session the night before. Chicken Galbi is spicy and super delicious! I totally agree, I think one of the chains should bring out a Dakgalbi burger just like ubiquitous Bulgogi burgers.
A thing that my family does for korean bbq is to cook the pork belly by itself so that it releases all its fat and then cook the ribs into the fat. We love to eat it with a lettuce wrap with seaweed, picked radish(not kimchi radish), kimchi, and any of the meats we choose. I like to add rice also to that mixture or have perilla leaf
I've done bulgogi at home (both with ribeye and a super fast cheat with mince for a 20 weeknight meal) but this is such an awesome idea. I'm considering getting the table grill for party hosting now. Great video, as always.
It's so exciting to see content creators like you who put in extra effort into recipe research, then putting in your finishing touches instead of just slapping things together. Your instructions are easy to follow along/streamlined while including every ingredient that would otherwise be missed if it wasn't there. Your pronunciation wasn't too bad either, except for doenjang, which is understandable because of the confusing Romanization (it's closer to dwen-jang, like d+when). It would be cool to see your take on goon mandu, the Korean take on Chinese fried pork/leek dumplings. (Featured in the original Oldboy film) It's really exciting to see people from around the world making stuff from my home country. Thank you Joshua!

Those potatoes can’t even be outdone by Gordon Ramsay himself and I bet he is actually trying to replicate them this afternoon in one of his tiny little kitchens tucked away behind the Taco Bell dumpsters at the end of the alley! 😎 This is the best looking food I’ve seen in years I think!! I just can not wait to try this and wish there was somewhere I could get something similar to ease my cravings till I can make it just like Joshua did!

i love that josh calls the potatoes "gamja potatoes". that's just potato potatoes lmao. (kind of like when people say chai tea XD). that said, this looked pretty great. i feel like korean people usually do non-marinated meats at home for kbbq more commonly (and just in general, in korea, it's less marinated meat and more non-marinated meat), but this made me crave it something fierce. guess i know what i'm going to prep this weekend lol
Bro seeing the title of this video made me happy as a fellow Korean. Then, as I watched, there was galbi and cucumber kimchi which are a few of my favorite foods.
As a Korean I approve this. Side tip. Korean BBQ usually consists of raw meat that’s not marinated as well. You cook the none marinated first and eat it. Then you cook the marinated to prevent burning since the marinade will burn if you have it on the grill too long. In Korea we ask the server to change the grill several times during the course of the meal :)
This is great! I usually like to cook I marinated meats first and then the marinated ones. Also, you would’ve gotten bonus points if you cooked kimchi, garlic, and peppers in the rendered fat from the pork belly. Great job!
I think the most popular home-cooked dish that represents Korea is Seoul-style bulgogi. It's thinly sliced beef marinated in sweet soy sauce and cooked with a little broth.
As a Korean I’m gonna say he did a good job but I’m laughing at the “gamja potato” because “gamja” means potato in Korean, so idk if he was trying to say “ganjang” because that is soy sauce and it looks like that’s what he made. Just my hearing though I honestly don’t know what he said.
Josh, I have come to the conclusion that if I want some form of food at home you will literally come out with a video within the next 12-24 hours of my cravings. At first I thought this ironic, then I had a feeling, now I have drawn a conclusion that if this has been accomplished multiple times its clearly scientifically proven. Anyways XD Great video, love your content, keep doing!
Korean BBQ has to be one of the most wholesome and flavorsome dining experiences. Very affordable as well, especially the all you can eat ones in Sydney.
Thanks for sharing Korean culture with the youtube community however a few things I want to say as a Korean person. 1. Marinated meats look good. 2. Chili crisp is something never found in korean food. Instead of the chili crisp when making the marinated cucumbers, gochugaru (chilli flakes), minced garlic, sesame seeds, sesame oil is the authentic way. 3. Sesame garlic sauce is something i've never seen in my life. This dipping sauce is supposed to be just sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. 4. Samjang and the sesame oil sauce are only eaten with meats that are not marinated, such as pork belly and beef brisket. If you dip marinated meats in these sauces it will be too overpowering. 5. Traditionally lemons are never used in korean food because they are not native to Korea. You can add rice wine vinegar instead for acid. However, I think adding lemon juice will taste good it is just not authentic. Overall, good video introducing Korean culture thanks Joshua.
As Korean, real Korean bbq is roasting pokbelly on charcoal ! and the porkbelly will be 2~3 cm size at least. You need only salt or ssangjang sauce. trust me. + if u cook porkbelly on pan, saute kimchi with pork oil. Its taste super nice!
gotta love how Josh said Bap and panned to the rice while he was showing off the side dishes (bap means rice in korean) ps this was when was was saying like boom bang, bap
Actually did this w my husband a few months ago after re-discovering H Mart. Used a camping grill in our tiny rental with ALL the windows and doors open, fans running, and fire alarm under a pillow 😅 SO worth it though. And I’ll do it again with your recipe now! Ty 😍
Omg he said Bulgogi! Not BulgoJEE, He's reading the comments guys, we did it!!! (In all seriousness, banger of a video Josh, it's my fav thing to eat as well.)
If you already have an indoor butane stove you can just get the upper pan part also from Iwatani, who make that grill. It's about 1/3rd the price, does the same thing.
I would recommend putting some whole garlic cloves around to throw on the grill and eat in the wraps, in addition to some cheongyang chili peppers (eaten raw) and some perilla leaves to use instead of/in tandem with the lettuce…everyone always ignores perilla leaves, they’re key to Korean cooking and soooooooooo good. Never seen potatoes like that served in Korea, but they do look really good. Also, it’s common to throw a few tteok rice cakes on the grill at the end, they take a while to cook but they’re sooo good when they’re crunchy-browned on the outside and gooey on the inside.
If you can't find Asian Pears around your local grocery Stores try to use a Kiwi. The Pear or Kiwis are mostly used for there tenderizer Enzyme. You can also use a yellow Kiwi instead of a normal one. The Yellow once got less of the tenderizer enzyme in them.
Josh, I need you to show us how to cook a delicious cilantro garlic shrimp plate with coconut rice. I need this dish in my life and you're the only chef that I trust to make this dish.

Man this channel is soooo lit I love all of his videos
This is great! I usually like to cook I marinated meats first and then the marinated ones. Also, you would’ve gotten bonus points if you cooked kimchi, garlic, and peppers in the rendered fat from the pork belly. Great job!
I wish I had the time!!!!,,The prep time it takes to make the dish is not in my favor, but I can always watch and learn..
You were missing the kimchi!! That is essential! But great job anyways, looks delicious 🤤
5:20 :)
Yeah, there’s some odd things in there but he did a great job overall. I just buy 반찬 for the most part anyway. lol
I love Korean BBQ so much... Just started making it at home recently. I'm going to have to try some of these recipes out.
Hey Josh, love the work you do. Would be epic if you made a recipe of Mapo Tofu
im korean this seems very good and today i'll be using this recipe for my meal.
Anyways XD
Great video, love your content, keep doing!
That was incredible Joshua! Real deal. OMG 7M! incredible
You actually added Asian pear !!! This is so authentic recipe ❤❤❤❤
Bro I'm so proud😭😭😭 i
I lived in South Korea for 13 years and just got back. Finally somebody making proper 불고기,갈비, and 삼겹살.
Seeing everyone eating is the best part.
the ending scene with all the crew just vibing together is so wholesome
I love what you did with that saying bop when you showed the rice, like "bap" the Korean word for rice 👍♥️😂
I'm korean and if I were uncle roger I'd give you the Uncle title. Some of the little details are very impressive 👏 👌 👍 😀
I like how he said Bap as the camera showed rice. I don't know how planned that was, but it made me happy.
gotta love how Josh said Bap and panned to the rice while he was showing off the side dishes (bap means rice in korean) ps this was when was was saying like boom bang, bap
Actually did this w my husband a few months ago after re-discovering H Mart. Used a camping grill in our tiny rental with ALL the windows and doors open, fans running, and fire alarm under a pillow 😅 SO worth it though. And I’ll do it again with your recipe now! Ty 😍
Really enjoyed the video and it gave me some ideas on sauces and marinades for Korean style dining. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing 👏 you've outdone yourself 💥💥💥
Omg he said Bulgogi! Not BulgoJEE, He's reading the comments guys, we did it!!! (In all seriousness, banger of a video Josh, it's my fav thing to eat as well.)
I've been waiting too long for this one!
You guys make me so happy, especially that final scene 🤣 just bought the cookbook too!! Super excited
Seriously, your crew must have the best meals on the planet.
The end with everyone laughing and eating 🥺🥰
Super authentic! Everything looks so yum!
The camera crew all huddled around the grill eating is so wholesome ☺️
Love this episode!
Josh, I need you to show us how to cook a delicious cilantro garlic shrimp plate with coconut rice. I need this dish in my life and you're the only chef that I trust to make this dish.
