    This is the kind of stuff that the Roll20 website or forums should have on it, but I couldn't find this content anywhere. My Roll20 campaign was lagging like crazy every time I tried opening token information because I had so many character sheets and handouts unarchived.
    You've really taken out a lot of the grueling work that I used to go through to get Roll20 to cooperate with me. I'm currently transitioning over all the handouts and character sheets in my campaign along with my players, and we're all excited to see how it'll turn out when we next meet up.
    Thanks a lot for making these videos! It's really helpful to see you go through this step-by-step. If there's anything I really want to see you cover, it's player character sheets. The OGL ones are really wonky for my players since we switched over from the community built ones.

      Roy, I love seeing feedback like this, and am truly glad that people are finding these videos helpful. Thank you.
      As far as the sheets go, here's the skinny-- I really disliked them when I saw them at first. I think it was just the aesthetics, I'm not 100% sure why they bothered me so badly. But after I found out the author of the old sheets was no longer going to support them coupled with the fact the 5eSRD were 'officially' supported by Roll20, I just forced myself to make the jump.
      I still miss the old sheets, but man, am I glad I switched. My advice is to keep playing around with them until you get comfortable.
      I may make a video, down the road, who knows lol...
      Cody

    I wish I had the patience/time to set up all the tables I use. I made tables for random encounters and weather and it's been working wonders. It amazes me how many tables you've made, and the time and effort put into it.

    Rollable tables can be used for multiple token images for a character or type of monster. Set up a rollable table of say a bunch of goblin images and then pull one of those to the table and set it as a token instead of an image, then assign it to the character sheet for the goblin. You will then be able to change the image when you pull out multiple goblins. Just right click and choose side for the image you want and you have a variety! After the token is assigned you can then delete the table and the assigned token will still be changeable! It's a great way to have a variety of baddies.

      As always Ed, you are a monster yourself! Man, I really thought I covered this in the video and when I went back to watch it... I just totally didn't. I much prefer using circle tokens than artwork akin to what Devin knight does (though his stuff is fantastic, just preference really) and so I don't really use this technique at all.
      But for anyone who sees this comment down the road, know that you can always trust in what Ed says. He is a Master of Roll20, there is no doubt.

    Best thing I have found for tokens is assigning mulitple images of same creature to it's character token.
    The kolbold draws it's sword (select that image off table)
    You knock the kobold out
    (Select prone kobold image)
    Haven't played with it yet but was thinking a weighted table with warriors, shamans, rangers whatever... It would generate a mixed encounter. Just which the table result could do some kind of macro into the character sheet to actually MAKE it a shaman when it rolled it

    I use Rollable tables (for tokens) to indicate what spell is randomly cast on the players.
    Chain Link - If (2 characters) separate from 10 ft. They both take damage.
    The rollable allows me to select any number of random characters so that the players don't feel like i'm screwing them over. It's all random and all the roll of the die.

  • @MarkDrummond206

    I use roll tables, each with different tokens for the same enemy. Then I use your technique in an earlier video to assign the roll token to an enemy created from the compendium. When I drop the monster sheet on the field I can choose or randomize the token that's displayed, so each enemy can look different.

    Not sure if you are even checking this video anymore, but I am curious if it's possible to stack these similar to stacking macros. What I want is to have it set up so that I can click a button to get a yes/no of whether there is a magic item in the loot. If yes, then what type of item (armor, weapon, boots....). Then what item of that type. I know this is probably confusing, but I thought I would ask.

    First of all, thank you very much for all the info. All your videos are very helpfull but I have a question....
    I've created a table as you described and put it in a macro, I also use the 5e template box and everything is nice and tidy.
    I want to take it to the next level.My table has 8 items, each item in my table has name, desciption and DC. The name, the dc and the description of the item of tha table are all in the description of the 5e template box.
    I want when I press the macro button to create a 5e template box and put the name as rname of the tamplate,
    the DC as name and the description as description.
    Is there any way to do this?
    My thought was to create 3 tables one with the names, one with the DC and one with the description and link them somehow.
    For example roll a d8 and use the result to take the same item from each table.
    Another thought was to use one table as it is now and seperate the strings somehow to create the table I want. (this is easy in C)
    I dont know if any of my thoughts is correct but even if it is I have no idea how to do it.
    I know this is an old video and its hard to answer but thanks in advance :)

    Just as a quick note in case someone else has the issue you cant put a number as the first character in a rollable table or it will just give you the number. To get around this for 1 i use A/An and for other ones i just do (#). Hope this helps

    Nice Job on this series! I'm starting a FFG campaign on Roll 20 for the first time and although I am using the API character sheets, I chose to create a rollable table for players to roll Destiny points. I created the table with proper weights and titles. I also created a macro with this formula: &{template:default}{{name=Destiny-Roll}} {{[[1t[Destiny-Roll]]]}}. Every time I click the macro button (in bar) it doesn't show the proper table labels. Instead it shows a highlighted number 1 or 2. How do I get it to show the proper descriptions from the table? Instead of the number, I would like to show the result roll (ie: 1 Darkside Point or 2 Lightside Points, etc)

    I have a table set up for Critical Fumbles. It works as I want it to. First it brings up a box with the default template that shows 4 buttons. Melee Armed - Melee Unarmed - Ranged - and Spell Attacks. You click a button and it rolls and shows you the output. The output is not formatted besides just being an inline roll. I want to have the final output in the 5e format, but I cannot get that to work. Any help would be appreciated.
    &{template:default} {{name=Critical Fumbles}} {{Choose Attack Type:=[Melee Armed](!
    #MeleeArmed)[Melee Unarmed](!
    #MeleeUnArmed)[Ranged](!
    #Ranged)[Spell Attack](!
    #SpellAttack)}}
    I have 4 tables named MeleeArmer MeleeUnArmed Ranged and SpellAttack

    Great video, your videos should be embedded right into the roll20 wiki as they are way more informative than that website. Regarding your macros that you have already set up, would you be willing to put the macro text/tables you have already created into a google doc? I plan on making some of my own based on this video and you others, I'm just wondering if you could save me (and others) time by using your work as a starting point. Thank you for the content you make, its great.

    • @Taking20
      @Taking20  8 лет назад +2

      Alas, I cannot.
      1. I can't give you the tables because of copyright reasons.
      2. I can't physically give you the tables anyway, you'll have to do your own legwork. There's no shortcut to put the tables in your game.
      3. The macros won't do anything more than the information I put in the description. Since you have to make your own tables, the macros won't do you any good.
      Buuuuuut, you should have all the tools to get as creative as you'd like. Happy Gaming!

      If they are copyrighted, any chance you can point us to where you got them? Books we could look into buying, etc?

      There is a table import/export script that can be used (if Copyrights allow)
      You'll need to be able to run scripts to make it work - fyi.

    How would you make a table with rollable entries? For example, a random encounter table where 1 entry would be 1d8 Kobolds and and another would be 2d4 Giant Spiders, etc.?
    I see how to wrap table rolls inside macros but how do you wrap dice rolls inside tables?

  • @666Hand
    @666Hand 8 лет назад +1

    Another excellent video - if you do use rollable tables to make a multi-sided Token (say 10 different goblins pictures), then right-click and un-tick the "Is Drawing" you can then make it the default token for your "Goblin" and then drag it from the Journal, right-click and either choose or randomize the picture. Is there a way to have it auto-randomize when you drag it on?

    • @Taking20
      @Taking20  8 лет назад

      Great tip Mick! I thought I covered this when a made the video and now I realize I completely skipped over it... blonde moment.
      As far as the randomizing on creation, to my knowledge there is no way to do this at the moment. I COULD be wrong, but everything I remember from the past is that it has to be randomized on the table.

  • @NachoElephant
    @NachoElephant 7 лет назад

    [EDIT]It is in the next video - never mind...
    Is there a way to build nested tables?
    For example, the Treasure Horde tables in the DM Guide (p.137) will result in something like "Roll 1d6 times on Magic Item Table B." among other things.
    Can we create a combination of tables and macros nested or otherwise that will just produce a list of 4 items from table B or something like that?

    I really wish I could get a dice roll to eval in a table name like you can in spell description text. Say a random encounter table that has an entry "[1d4] goblins" sould resolve to "3 goblins" on roll for example.

  • @chrisclarke73

    So is there a way let's say to roll Random minor magic item, where it will automatically roll the type of item (let's say it rolls shield and armor), then it would automatically roll the shield and armor table, and if it came up specific armor or shield, would then roll on either the sepcific armor or shield table?

    One thing i'm really interested in is if there is a way to do "if and or then" statements?
    Eg Macro rolls 1d20
    "If" roll=1 [[1t[Critical fail table]]]
    "If'' roll=20 [[1t[Critical awesome table]]]
    Or if there is a way to have one table activate another?

      Absolutely. I am focusing on the Master Series at the moment, but I feel like there are only a few more videos I that I feel I NEED to do-- so the series will probably be winding down within the next month or so. After that I will be getting into the meat and potatoes of where I want to take the channel. I am very passionate about discussing the nuances of running games behind the screen and there is a metric ton of stuff I want to talk about.
      Thanks for hanging with me so far Sweedrock. I really appreciate all you guys who have been so complimentary! There's a lot of stuff I'm plotting out, and I hope you guys will enjoy the upcoming content too.

    Is there a way to Make rollable tables show all the results in Query rolls? i mean for example i have a talent system in my game divided by colors Ala MTG , everytime players gets a Sphere point, players choose a color roll a number of times from their highest color and a different number of times from one of their lower colors and then choose one of the talents from there to add to their character so for example i have a rollable table called Orange and i try to do something like
    &{template:default} {{name=@{Selected|token_name} rolls Orange Magic}} {{Talenst= [[?{Number of Dice|3}t[Orange]]]}} it makes the roll but the inline roll only shows one of the results which i find to be bad because i need it to show the 3 talents with their respective effects so that players can choose from there instead of making a bunch of rolls and getting confused over who got what.

  • @JoshuaZachorne

    Is there a way to make a roll within an item on the table. I made some random encounter tables that I would like the number of monsters appearing to roll. Right now for example if I roll on the table I get Orc (No. App. 1d6). I'd like it to also do the roll. Is this possible? By the way I enjoy your videos they have been very helpful.

    • @Taking20

      I know what you are trying to do and the short answer is no, rollable tables can only output simple text. The text cannot even be formatted.
      I just have my dice tables set up and roll any numbers like that manually. Hope this helps!

    Help if you can. I have created a rollable table for critical fumbles. 1t[CFM] I have added weights to them adding to 100.
    When I /roll 1t[CFM} I get
    r (40 • You’ve fallen and you can’t get up. You immediately fall prone and lose all movement this round.)
    =40
    in chat.
    If I inline roll [[1t[CFM]]] I only get a number 40 instead of the text
    Any ideas?

    • @Taking20
      @Taking20  7 лет назад

      Dave I know exactly what's going on. you can't start your result with a number.
      So no 40
      Put a ' in front and your problem will be solved.
      Example: '40

    At first I was excited to find this, but after watching the previous four videos four times, pausing endlessly at certain points and magnifying the screen to see exactly what you're typing, I guess you have to be a computer programmer for these videos to help. Pity. All I am after is a single, simple line of code. I like that you can make these rollable tables and nesting boxes, but evidently you need to understand a lot of missing elements. Is it possible to make a much simpler video for those of us who are not computer programmers and don't understand code to make just one kind of nesting box with a rollable macro? You have a lot of pretty things that connect to a wide variety of options. All that I could use after watching this video and pausing continually is the fact that these [[ ]] create a nice yellow background with whatever you are trying to paint a picture of. I'm after a Trapping/Hunting Nesting Macro. I have a list of animals that I would like to be able to put into that clickable macro button to generate which animal has been trapped. If I have just one simple line of text, I can replicate that for as many macros as I'd like using the same method: Fishing, Foraging, Prospecting, etc. I do appreciate all the time you take to do these videos and am amazed at your skill!
