Takeaway of this episode: In my honest opinion, it's important for Michael Smith in his book to carefully lay out the journey of him not believing what other people tell him about China, to him seeing the reality of China. I think sometimes people in-the-know lacks the proper patience and empathy to allow others to catch up. For Taiwanese and some others, it is facts, and common knowledges on what's real in China. But for a lot of foreigners, this is almost completely new and is waking up from a fantasy/dream. You don't tell an elementary school kid that "The answer is 125. I already told you before," when presenting "25 X 5 = " You teach them how to calculate, and lay out the process on how to reach that conclusion. People need to stop to expect others to "just know". Instead, understanding that they have not caught up, and have the patience to bring everyone up to speed. And also important, resist the urge of "I told you so," no matter how gratifying it would feel. You know how much you hated it when others tell you that. 17:25 wow Salt Spring island, memories of summer haha. In my teenage days I go to camps in the Sunshine Coast thought. One of my friend was a counsellor for many years at Malibu, BC, which is *only* accessible by boat. The best part of the camps is that usually the counselor are also young folks themselves doing it as a summer job. So you would have like high school teenagers, who are still kids in many ways, leading elementary school kids. It's a whole ot of fun. I have joined summer camp in Taiwan a few times and also in Canada a few times. I think the biggest difference is that summer camps in Canada is much more disconnected from civilization and in wilderness, with lots and lots and lots of outdoor activities. Maybe it's just BC, I don't know. 😛 18:05 There is a game we play that is intentionally flipping the boat though. Not sure if Ken and his sister had the chance to do it. You get a canoe, and then you have two people standing on gunwales on opposite side. Then you try to tip the boat enough to unbalance the other person into the water, but not fall into water yourself. However usually both people will fall, just one will be earlier than other. It's so much fun! 23:40 Adults are often very protective of children, which is understandable. However, kids are really a lot stronger than what you would believe (not all kids). Children would have quietly absorbed many information. If it's important for *adults* to talk about their thoughts and trauma, why wouldn't it also be important for children to talk about it. You want to teach to face their issues and express it and to deal with it. Honestly, don't underestimate the kids, they are much more awesome and heroic than you would believe. 31:35 Well... either employees are like their bosses, LOL. Or that opposites attract so the bosses hires people that are unlike them 🙃 39:06 Froggy Chiu is going to do that too... right? But honestly, the fact that she did that probably means that she was under a whole lot of pressure. You have to admire and applaud her bravery. This also probably shows how infiltrated UN is... and how useless UN is... 48:45 In my opinion it's important that Michael Smith is including all the internal change/journey throughout the whole episode. 50:50 "Too little too late" vs "Let's do nothing"... which is better? Hardware and software is coupled, so yeah the AI software (fuel) maybe world class, but without the chip (engine) to run it, it's no use. For now... the actual silicon is one of the only few things that can have some effects. 55:58 Few thoughts regarding the Indonesian capital move. First I don't think it'll ever happen. It's foolish to expect that high percentage of foreign investment. If I hear that maybe 60-70% government, and 30-40% foreign investment I feel there is a slight chance. I mean they could symbolically move it and start with a small town, and then slowly move everything over and see if everyone would follow. If they just plan a grandiose city to begin with I don't think it'll ever happen. 57:47 priest: "hmm?"

Then you should be a federal employee. 🤣. As one of my friends says, it’s good enough for government jobs! 😄
