I didn't mention in the video, but this footage was taken back in 2019 when I purchased the car. I felt the system was so bad, I needed to highlight the system itself so you all could see. Technically speaking, that cool bass pump thing is a free air, infinite baffle design - not isobaric. I have been into car audio soooo long and this is the first time I've ever seen that. Great vid as always ❤
Back when tapes were still fairly common, I had both a Sony CD player and the OEM tape deck. When you switched on the tape deck, relays switched the RCAs.
Lol epic stack up front there big D. I think you need 8 more eq's personally. Those old kenwood amps had din plugs as well as rca for input as far as I can remember xx
Too cool!!!! Would love to have that Pyramid EQ-amp. Had one way back in the day. JC Whitney days that is. Thanks for all you do for the community Brutha. Oops, I meant “you big dummy”!!😂
Reminds me of my h.s. days with my 77 f150. A knoby Sony tape deck, with that exact Kenwood eq, an Orion black amp pushing two mtx road thunders in the doors with 2 dual 6.5 3ways and two clarion 5.25 2ways in the head liner. Those were the days, lol wires everywhere, amp just laying on the Trans hump, no door panels, more rattles than bass.
those subs are in a infinite baffle manifold. normally that vents to the outside, but in your case theyre venting it in. creating a sort of trunk baffle..but that wont work well because im sure that trunk is SO not sealed from the cabin
This is awesome seeing this old school audio stuff, man i remember back in the day I had some systems, mtx, jl audio, pyles, thumps, cerwin vegas, man the days! jensen cheap subs, classic stuff.
This ride is hot🥳😉👍🆙️ Hmmmm🤔🤔 i remember the bass pump....in a car audio magazine??? This ride need a rebuild... maybe with modern electronics?! I think this could be a cool mix💪😎
man the good ol days of car sound very custom, would love to have that sub setup though, many cars that ive had with a rear deck and wanted to adapt a sub in there somehow. had a 2000's ford Taurus that had a 6x9 hole that i used for a sub once, it actually bumped a bit
So the truth is these video clips were taken when I got the car a few years ago. I stripped everything out that same afternoon. First up was to install a new wiring harness and intake/carb. Needs exhaust work and interior next. Been a side burner project due to other responsibilities but hope to get to it soon
Back in '90 I ran the two EQ setup as well. Had a Sony for my front speakers and a Optimus/Realistic for my rears, all with a Kenwood headunit. It actually sounded better than it had any right to. Car audio was so much fun back then.
Need to dyno all that junk & then see just how much abuse those Static-matics can take. Sickening thing is I had just about everything there at some point in my 1st car & thought i was ballin! 😂 Congrats on the ride! I've got a '49 Hudson up the road from you in SRQ area, maybe I'll catch you at a car show someday. It was owned by Francis Ford Coppola & used in a movie they made around 12 years ago. I've got it torn apart right at the moment doing fuel injection, 700R4, disc brakes & 8.8 rear end. No audio tho, just factory AM for now & up for any suggestions.
The Kenwood marine amp I showed a while back has Bluetooth connection and a remote volume control, would work well for a simple system ruclips.net/video/QYDYGSgWJDs/видео.html
@@wal2 fantastic, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Out of sight, out of mind, nothing too crazy. You're the best! Just throwing it out there, if you need any technical advice or help with anything, feel free to reach out. I'm a U-Haul contractor, mobile mechanic & have both hook & rollback tow trucks. I get down that way pretty often.
The vehicle wiring has been stripped and redone with painless kit. That was literally the first thing as there was no way I was gonna trust that rat’s nest
My first install was a pyramid EQ to a old school Pioneer Super Tuner cassette back in 1888 in a 69 Buick... I didn't even know how to drive, but I knew wires
Love that you've kept this old car as original as possible- Aside from maybe a few understandable modernization updates of course, as I doubt this blue beaut' would do very well with any audio gear working off the stock 6V system from '37 😅
He pulled all of this equipment out years ago when he first got the car. It's already been converted to run on 12-volt. I think he's using a step down device for the gauges to still operate.
Ah, that makes a lot of sense. The 12V conversion with 6V step-down device was probably among the first of the upgrades. It's truly both a fascinating and wild experience all the odd things you can learn about with cars of the past when you're able to own one. Just how they were in most ways compared to those of today.
Wow what a mess. Is this a reupload? It looks familiar. The bass pump is very cool I'm curious what kind of sound that thing puts out but that's not exactly something that can be bench tested! Thanks big D
Really appreciate this! Such an obvious 80's early 90's setup! The sub is cool as all hell! But Big D, how long have you owned this Hot Rod? How long has the project been on the back burner?
yes, not exactly what you want to see, now that you are removing that system that opens the door for you to install a nice old school system in that nice old car. it can only get better. you can do before and after video? And i hope you are not running out of amps to test? still got a few id like to see you do. THANKS for the video.
The Bass pump.. PUSH PULL?? The SPARKO'S Half the brand half the sound well Atleast if Half covered.. LoL.. only KRACO missing is the good ole 140 watt 😂
D, you've has this car for how long and you're just now getting to this? Lol 2 things, 1: Love that blue Kraco 2: Any way you can get me the dimensions of that basspump (w/o the speakers). Mainly after its internal volume and the diameter of that opening at the top. Thanks man
Kind of disappointed in this one. The BassPump was absolutely a 'free air' subwoofer system and absolutely not Isobaric. Intended for an easy way to get bass through existing rear tray speaker locations. Linear Power offered something similar.

So yes i see it a lot in thare lol.
I'm a retro car audio junkie and collector but this set-up looks like it belongs in Fred & Lamont Sanford's truck. :D
😂
I use two eq"s also
One for midranges and the other for my 12" midbass.
Optimus, a Pyramid slider EQ, Sparkomatic and Coustic??? This is some real deal old school stuff right here.
I want that Optimus CD player!!!!!
Technically speaking, that cool bass pump thing is a free air, infinite baffle design - not isobaric. I have been into car audio soooo long and this is the first time I've ever seen that. Great vid as always ❤
I actually dig the old school cheap install. Nostalgic
Dang! That huge stack of electronics under the dash is crazy!
that pyramid EQ amp was my first ever installment into the car audio game back in the mid/late 80s
Bet those old equalizers sound good on new amps with new dacs....probably crazy
Back when tapes were still fairly common, I had both a Sony CD player and the OEM tape deck. When you switched on the tape deck, relays switched the RCAs.
That Bass Pump was actually really cool. Looked like they only had one of the subs wired up on it.
That should stay with a pair of infinite baffle subs (replacement).
Of all people, never imagined you'd have something like that in your hot rod, lol. Definitely like that pyramid equalizer.
This is how it came, pulled it out the day it was delivered
@@wal2 so this video was recorded years ago?
0:30 I love the Velcro textured trim that fills in the gaps between the decks. Nothing says '80s like Velcro 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol epic stack up front there big D. I think you need 8 more eq's personally. Those old kenwood amps had din plugs as well as rca for input as far as I can remember xx

Throw back many decades. Make it sound great , love the channel thanks
Never seen that bass pump before! Looking forward to more about that crazy thing.
Watching you play with your hotrod makes me want to get my 39 Plymouth on the road.
Do it!

1:09 taking kick panels to a whole new level with 6x9s kickin 😂 through this system is just nothing but epic.......
Thank the good Lord that it has a fire extinguisher installed, that is a wiring nightmare
I loved that name.... Bass Pump. As far as names go it's second only to The Punch
It reminds me as a kid growing up in Australia going to the flee market and buying a brand ..Ferris Audio it was cheap but cheerful.

Back in the early 90's equalizer and active crossovers were used to tune, this is personally my favorite way
Man I had that tape deck in my Electra in high school. Bought it at target. It was my first install. 😂
94 or 95
those subs are in a infinite baffle manifold. normally that vents to the outside, but in your case theyre venting it in. creating a sort of trunk baffle..but that wont work well because im sure that trunk is SO not sealed from the cabin
Are you sure that was meant to vent outside? I'm pretty sure those were specifically designed to be mounted into rear decks.
So you’re saying that trunk isn’t sealed? Just a few holes shy of being perfectly sealed 😝
@@wal2 lol yea, im guessing like swiss cheese..

Slabbin on the ol booster stack y'all😂🎉🎉 oh lordy i remember the dicey crap in the 80's
I remember shops selling and installing separate EQ's when the installs had a two amp system for front and rear component sets.
The car is awesome, that install, not so much. I'm sure you will get it taken care of soon. Can't wait to see it done. 😎👍👍

2 EQs are twice as equal. I'm ready to hear that bass pump in action though. Preferably in the Ford trunk how they had it.

This has to be a very old video since he removed all that gear the day he got the car.
@@JasonWW2000 yeah actually after this it rolled to the video from when he first took delivery of the car. My mistake. 🙂

WOW Brought back a lot of memories! 😳🤯
Old school classic right there. 👍
One minute and 45 seconds in I think I hear a rebuild in the making
That old car has more wires than a new car
Very cool sub! I have never seen on of those before. Great video. Good or bad love seeing the old stuff. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
for 1989 that shit is rocking!!! so dont come a knocking!! 6x9 on the feet!! FUCK!! 99/100+++ install!! velcro!! fuck ya!!

That coustic bass pimp is kinda cool I've never seen that
Given the state of the rest of the wires in the dash I will assume the builder of this car did all this himself.
Apparently! The original wiring has been stripped out and replaced with painless wiring kit
The angle for the bass pump was designed to hit that G spot 😂
Heck yeah dinosaur electronics back in the day lol.
Did you ever play it?
What did it sound like at different volume levels?
No it wasn’t hooked up and the Kenwood amp needs a DIN adapter I don’t have
What u gonna do with the old equalizers?
This did not disappoint.....!!!!!
I have the same Coustic set in the 6 1/2 version. Never actually used it. I’ll donate it if interested.
