    The lights remaining on throughout this experience made it far less terrifying than it would've been in complete darkness.

      @hebneh Yeah but it also could've been a bad thing because wiring being exposed due to outburst by a hurricane could lead to a fire. And that's NOT good for anyone of these guys trapped inside trying to find safety.

      6:45- “yea if we open it the ceilings gonna blow up” ..... that’s what I always love to hear when I am trying to escape a potential in-room hurricane and its the only available exit to (essentially) NOT DYING. 🙏🏼🙅🏻‍♀️ (lol but not really...) I cannot even imagine the pure horror and terrifying extreme flight instinct that it must have felt like in those moments!!!! Scary as hell. I am so grateful that this video exists and that they made it out safely- which is pretty much all anyone could ask for with that nightmare experience through Odille (aka- “Cabo’s new sleep paralysis demon) and her wrathful annihilation that occurred along her unforgiving path. I love Cabo so much (as my family has a home here) and it is really hard watching this video and knowing what lay ahead in the long aftermath 💔🇲🇽🌊🌫

I can assure you now almost everyone has learned from their mistake and completely protected their houses, business, etc. Traumatized, we learned from our mistake of thinking it wasn't going to arrive.

    I remember that day, i’m from Los Cabos and the news said that the hurricane wasn’t a risk, but they we’re wrong. I can understand the fear and even terror in the hotel.
    In the houses, neighbourhoods....was worst, i remember the screams from the people in the house on front because the winds were so strong and fast that broke windows and even doors, a lot of the people died that night

    I remember going through this. I was in La Paz, (which is like 2 hours away) and it was chaotic to say the least. All the city billboards were completely bent and torn. The local OXXOs (kinda like Mexico's 7eleven) were destroyed. Somehow an entire steel kitchen sink got stuck in the tree next door. Windows shattered, cars got damaged, and even a piece of the frickin CEMENT BOARDWALK ripped off. It was crazy!

    Incredible footage as always! The scariest nighttime footage of a storm since hurricane Andrew. Is it right that Odile had a pressure gradient of 3mb per mile? That would be near Haiyan with 4mb. The southern eyewall in a tropical cyclone is always worst than the northern one. Really love this small and powerfull wind monsters!

    Hurricane Matthew prompted me to revisit our experience with Odile. We stayed at Cabo Azul Resort at San Jose del Cabo. The resort took pretty good care of us. Didn't have to evacuate or sit in the stair well all night. We holed up in a bedroom that had a tiny shuttered window. The 'master bedroom' was unusable-- slider caved in and there was wind, water and debris everywhere. Very loud and dark all night long. Water pouring through ceiling.
    Next day found cellphone coverage in a 4x4 area in front of the hotel. We'd wait in line for our turn. Recharged our phone (which was used for light at night) in the refrigerator outlet which had generator power. Hotel was running out of water/food and there was looting. Several days later the resort sent a bus to take us to airport. . We waited in the sun (95 degrees & humidity) for 5 hours. Got a flight to Mexico City (on our way to Seattle!). A guy had cardiac arrest and died on the plane.
    There was a Hilton in the airport. Escapees from Odile had a grand time in the bar!

    From what I read, that hotel you stayed at was a brand new hotel, just recently built. Now I thought new buildings located in hurricane regions were supposed to have shatter resistant windows. I just relocated to Fort Myers, Florida, and the apartment building I am in was easily built long before that hotel was built, and the windows in my apartment building are laminated glass.

    • @iCyclone
      @iCyclone  9 лет назад +5

      triton115 Correct-- the hotel was brand-new and had just opened. I don't know the specifics of the building codes there, but there was heavy wind damage to buildings across the region. The good news is that the hotel has since been fixed up and has reopened. :)

      I can't believe they didn't even bother to cover the windows with anything. I've lived in typhoon-prone areas, and there were metal brackets above and below all the windows, where you could insert thick wooden boards when necessary. It shouldn't cost that much to add this to a building.

    • @iCyclone
      @iCyclone  8 лет назад +3

      +Steve Rogers I agree they should have, but keep in mind, this city hadn't had a severe hurricane in its modern history. People naturally prepare for what they think is possible. They didn't expect this because no living resident there had experienced anything like it there.

      I was living next to La MEGA in SJ del cabo at the time, near the resorts. From what I remember, it was supposed to just be a pretty mean tropical storm until I lost power and had no idea how bad it was going to get.
      I was trying to seal up a door when a window blew out (sounded like an explosion) sending huge shards of glass flying about 10 feet away from me. I holed up in a small bathroom for about 4 hours and had never seen anything like it. 120+ MPH winds are no joke so be careful and take early precaution even if the weather forecast does not expect such things.
