Rembetiko - Misirlou (Feinheitsbrei edit)

Misirlou, a traditional song from the Greek rembetiko scene. The earliest known recording of the song is from 1927. It's influenced by Middle Eastern music and also recorded in different languages. The melody was popularized in Western popular culture by Dick Dale's surf rock version which also featured in the Tarantino cult movie Pulp Fiction.
The lyrics of the rembetika often reflected the harsher realities of a marginalized subculture's lifestyle. Thus one finds themes such as crime, drinking, drugs, poverty, prostitution and violence, but also a multitude of themes of relevance to Greek people of any social level.
