📚 Description: Chris Cornell was a powerful songwriter that had a really strong voice suited for rock/grunge. He is most well-known for fronting Soundgarden as well as Audioslave. Gibson first gave him a signature ES-335 electric guitar in 2013 limited to 500 pieces. 250 Green ES-335 with Bigsby and 250 Black ES-335 with stop bar tailpiece. Chris died in 2017 so in 2019 Gibson decided to reissue his green es-335 as a tribute to him and his legacy. However, this reissue was a bit controversial because of what they put on the headstock! Just like the original run - it sold out nearly instantly and consistently sells for considerably more than it did new ($3,999.)

  • @evilcowboy

The finish droplets around the head stock is caused by 1 of 3 things. The person who sprayed it was standing to far from the guitar and the aerosol dried a little before hitting the surface (common) or the person didn't clean the head of their spray gun (also common). And finally not cleaning the surface (common as well). If I had to guess I would say someone got lazy cleaning the nozzle of the spray gun since it is localized to one area.
As for the tearing on the inside you said was common to see, it happens because as they cut sideways they are cutting across the grain, if you do it too fast then that is the result. They just need to slow down the machine that cuts the pickup pockets and stop trying to do it in one pass. Tear out with a router bit is pretty common and a lot of people have issues when they first use a router. I made a cord for mine that has a dimmer that acts as a voltage increase to control how fast it spins, most modern routers have that feature but mine is a router from the 1950's and is why mine didn't have it.
Cool guitar, I like the color, gives it an old Army motorcycle look. It just screams military with that color.

Fun Fact: The heat press machine that Gibson uses to bend and form the wood to make the sides of the ES 335 body, (half the body) can do a piece of wood wide enough that once it's formed they can take it over to the band saw and get 4 sides, enough to make 2 guitars. That heat press machine is the SAME one that Gibson has used ever since the ES 335 first started being made in the 1950's!! So while they are now being made in Tennessee, it's still the same machine that they used in Memphis AND in Kalamazoo!!
I do not like that color choice but for some reason I wouldn't mind having one lol. I don't know anything about Cornell other than he is 1 of the 6 original grunge lead singers of which only 1 of them is still alive, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. I remember back in the early 90's when other rockers would talk about grunge and they couldn't understand why people wanted to listen to such depressing music and one guy actually said he won't be surprised at all when he hears that one of those guys ended up committing suicide because if the music was any indication as to their mental health condition, it's just a matter of time before one of them does it. Then about 2 weeks later Kurt Cobain killed himself! I like the clear knobs but since I am constantly playing with my volume and tone knobs when I am playing I hate not having numbers on the knob. I have a guitar that uses those knurled knobs without numbers and it's annoying!!

Recently bought a very slightly used Epiphone Joe Bonamasa ES-335 and the pickup pockets were super clean lol. That limited edition came with a Bigsby and I had to take it off and added a early ES-335 tailpiece that mounted it in the same place, with one Bigsby hole visible, oh well. The Epi is incredibly heavy and even after taking it off it still is over 10 pounds. IMO you need a roller bridge to make the trem work, it will rock that stock bridge. The pups sounded OK distorted but clean, hmmmm, not so much.

Trogly, do you dislike the Bigsby's mainly because of the "tuning issues" you've encountered or is it more than that? If so there are a number of things you can do to improve the tuning stability. Overlooked most of the time is the spring. Once the spring is broken in, you'd notice a HUGE difference, when they're new they suck!! Does take time and lots of playing. Try taking out the spring put it on a solid flat cement floor, stand it up and with solid sole shoes step on it with your heel, repeat a few hundred times. Then do it again a few days later, repeat once more and ya should be good. Once broken in the spring keeps its memory and tuning is much improved. Personally I prefer the 1 1/4 inch spring, has a bit more travel and is a bit stiffer. Find it keeps the best tuning and when you're not using the Bigsby swing the arm back so it lines up with the rear strap button. This will have the arm resting on the main frame of the Bigsby, essentially locking it in place and tuning will stay perfect when in that position.
Know you've said many times you're not a fan of the Bigsby. Still, if you're keeping this guitar, play around with it, practice, it is another tool that can create some great tones and makes you a better player. Cheers, thanks for another great Video.

I am a huge Soundgarden fan and I have one of these. I love the signature inlay on the headstock, it's classy and understated, and as a fan, it brings me joy to have a nod to my favorite singer with me on the headstock. The neck feels like butter, and unless you are switching guitars after every song and have a guitar tech retuning the guitar behind you, (like Chris did), the bigsby is unusable. Regarding the COA, in NO WAY would I want the name of anyone who is suing Soundgarden on anything relating to my guitar.
