      NRI oh another greeny picking on someone else's work!!! How would you run this business? Oh wait you prob don't want any animals producing anything? Just lets all eat grass because NRI said so! How's your duck farm going NRI? Oh wait your just some hobo behind a screen telling people what's good and what's not. Do you buy anything from the supermarket?? Because I'm sure you would know that supermarkets are the only disgusting places. Everything is mass produced and sprayed with chemicals, overcrowded, foul smelling living conditions but because it ain't on RUclips it doesn't open your eyes to it, this guy said he's running at a third of what he could run and you want to pick holes in that? Go buy Some land and start your own duck farm loser

    Thank you for the video! We are starting to do this in Michigan, USA. Free range, cage free and have only 100 right now and are increasing in every year. Nice to see others doing it also. Very hard developing a market here for Duck eggs though. Can't believe it.

I did 50 Cornish cross and 50 Peking ducks last year winter is just starting now tho sadly. I have 3 Pekins left and they've started laying so may start my own eggs this spring, I had Cayuga ducks when I was in New Zealand and really like them compared with the Peking for meat

    Another way to do the building would be on rails like a rail road track so they would not be standing in their pop
    You could plant in the areas that they are not currently in. if it's cold a low green house so it would not be affect by wind to warm to growing temps you could have marked spaces and insulated
    Below frost line to keep ground at
    Earth temp or above with use of the a green house

  • @Jeremiah--gr8ve

    Ducks without water to swim in, is UN-Natural!!!! That's probably why a lot of your ducks are overweight, they need exercise and seem to have a lot of leg and ankle problems! Go the next step and become humane by adding some ponds or at least 6 kiddy pools per enclosure and clean and fill them daily with water, in an area designated in one of the ends of each shelter! You probably have concrete floors in your enclosures underneath all that bedding anyways, so the little plastic pools are feasible! And any areas of bedding near the watering areas that get moisture or wet can be occasionally dusted with lyme and D.E.( which is> plant based silica, good for the feathers and bone health of the birds) every so often to keep the odor down and daily dry dusted in those areas with your pine mulch! This process will also help speed up the compost process by double or triple as well! Take this advice from a Florida Homestead farmer or leave it, but I see this as a great opportunity for your business to create faster compost, as well as a good improvement, a WIN/WIN for you, your compost and the health of your birds!

    do you think ducks get depressed when you take their eggs away from them?

    • @rfoehn5215
      @rfoehn5215 5 лет назад +2

      @Jacey's POV,
      If they're sitting on fertile eggs, they get very upset if any are taken The ducks can tell if their eggs are fertile, or not. Ducks do not begin sitting on their clutch until about the 10th day. Once they begin sitting, they will push out any unfertilized eggs from the nest. However, this operation is not producing fertile eggs. Any breeding they permit is being done in another area.

  • @dvb3230
    @dvb3230 5 лет назад

    Ducks obviously are kept in a clean environment and are healthy nutrional wise. However you can see that feather health is definitely not where it needs to be. There is even one shot of the duck taking the drinking water and trying to preen its feathers. So the natural instinct is still there and sadly they are deprived of doing what comes natural to their fullest ability. But for those who worry about the ducks having no pool you must realize these are not considered pets and these farms are not concerned with dealing with the mess that having a duck pool encompasses. Which would be a huge mess with this many ducks. They only are concerned with egg production. After one year a ducks egg count decreases and tapers off slowly. so these ducks are likely replaced often. But lets still be compassionate that they still do a very good job giving these ducks the best quality of life they can without having a pool.

    I’d love it if you’d put out a video on your composting regime. I didn’t think using pine shaving was good for composting because of the pine resins and acidity. We live in Eastern Washington State at a high elevation on 20 acres of wooded Forrest.
    We have heavy clay and rock soil, other then in the forest where it’s loom for several inches. I can make lots of pine shavings as we limb trees. So I’d like to see how you compost your bedding.

    I think the Mitchells care for their ducks humanely. Fresh food, fresh water, fresh bedding, fairly spacious open-air barn that gets natural light, spacious sleeping/laying units with fresh bedding to lay down in. Perhaps a little more outside activities, but other than that, they have it pretty good compared to others. At least here in the United States, many many poultry meat and egg concerns have these poor things living in steel cages in their own filth in windowless sheds. Just horrific. The Mitchells appear to view their ducks as living things rather than inventory. Alas, they're not perfect, but this is not a perfect world.

  • @shelly5596
    @shelly5596 5 лет назад +1

    It irritates me to see that their ducks are not on green pasture or being fed there more natural diet with lots of greens, so I wouldn’t bother eating their eggs. Grain fed birds produce eggs high in Omega 6 and pastured birds produce Omega 3 eggs. This is often the difference in someone’s sensitivity to eggs in general. Would it be a problem to reuse the shaving after being composted for bedding? Wouldn’t it kind of mimic them being outside roaming around in the soil? I’m sure it would have to be as dry as the pine savings and defiantly not damp for indoor use! Do you have a video on your water set up and when you mate your ducks?

    • @nevinkuser9892
      @nevinkuser9892 2 года назад

      The foxes and wolves would eat all the ducks, not a good business plan. The compost is resold to support the business so throwing away money by reusing would not be a good idea.

    Why are they not outside eating natural bugs ect. and vegetation. This is cruel the ducks being inside all the time. Humans are selfish that's for sure. Lazy farmers for sure. Farmers are supposed to have a lot of land and get them outside all day, have a place for them to swim and socialize and spread their wings. Nothing hard about that. You just let them be out all day and have fresh drinking water available and stations where they can eat. They naturally fertilize the places they poop. Rotating them on the land and supplementing their food. Keeping them crowded indoors without sunlight, fresh air is cruel. This is for lazy farmers for sure to make a fast buck. I do not eat animals or anything from them as I do not own my own land ect. and do not want to promote factory farming of any kind.
