Magnus' intuition is so good that even when he's not fully confident in a calculation his intuition will sometimes give him the best move, though he's not sure why. He's explained this many times after a game why he picked a move, and sometimes he says "it just felt like the right move". Imagine having the confidence of feeling like it's probably the right move (and it usually is), whereas his opponent is probably worried about a bad calculation, which can betray their confidence, instinct, and creativity in the moment.

Magnus Carlsen could be a great chess mentor . For one he is a master of the craft. The other factors are his humility good-natured quality and being a decent but down-to-earth person.

Great question tho right? I’m glad he asked it & now he knows he’s not alone because Magnus himself just admitted to blundering, it’s part of the chess game & it makes it so fascinating to watch his recovery, wild!! Learn from your mistakes he’s saying. What a cool guy!
