when doing this strat I highly recommend getting +1 melee attack on age up. It gives your mounted samurai 25 attack without bannermen and they will 2 shot vills instead of 3 (24 base arrack), raiding with two of them becomes menacing.
Japan is so versatile. You expect mass infantry then go a completely different direction with it rushing SS to daimyo. Unpredictability makes it quite strong.
Its also a good civ to learn the game in its full depth because there is not that one thing thats always the best way to play but you have to adapt to the map and the opposite
Anchoring each sacred site with a TC strongpoint was a great call, alongside that constant harassment with mounted samurai kept the Chinese bottled up and unable to grow. Well played.
Im thinking about just go 2nd tc into castle into MS. Also i think about not get the daimyo upgrade to get the 2nd tc at around 8 to 9 minutes. This would be soon enough. But you need to put your first one or three or for wooden relics (from floating gate) into production. Really important to make extra farms to compensate the 25 percent gather rate for them, if you cannot go on food sources outside. This is more genius.

Why do you not show whats in your control groups. I remember seeing alot of sc2 players do that too. Why wouldnt you want to see what you have in a certain control group?

I was genuinely curious. I know it shows above the units but I also like seeing it in the side as well. I don’t see a disadvantage to it. Sure it’s just preference but was just curious if he had a reason
wait why is noone spamming japanese TCs they are keeps with more health fewer emplacements but having 7 extra arrows doesn't make a huge deal against armoured units but you can get a rocket on it and it produces vils AAND only takes wood to repair what?!
I mean... to get said "keep" you are spending the initial TC cost (400 wood + 350 stone) + all three daimyo upgrades (2100 stone). So you are spending 2850 resources just for that... any other civ (Delhi excluded) might simply place 3 keeps instead; I'm not convinced that would be that much worse. Not saying it isn't worth doing but it isn't as busted as your comment seems to imply. Not to mention the clear absence of aoe options like boiling oil and cannon emplacement; the rocket is still single target. The wood repair cost is a valid point, but I'm not sure it outweighs the huge cost when compared to a standard keep. To me it simply sounds like the only option for Japanese players in castle age.
you forgot free stone from gold so cut that resource amount. also japanese workers carry more and walk faster than normal civs due to having more than a wheelbarrow upgrade. You also get free 4 yushiros, you wouldn't even need as many workers on gold. You can have them on stone. @@cptr3db34rd3

My main civ is japanese, I usually use 1 TC aggression, yet I struggle with English early aggression, like 90% of my losses on the ladder are against English early rush, They are just printing units so fast I cannot keep up this early even with 5 barracks. Besides onas just get molded by longbows. Please, make a japanese guide specifically against english early rush(longbows + spearmen/maa). Because enlish is my biggest struggle

Then once I can build storehouse i grab my 4 food vills to build. any extra villagers after go on to trees with 5 villagers on wood minimum. Should be able to handle a 4:50 timing for longbowman on gold. MUST BUILD TOWERS WITH ARROWSLITS ON BOTH SIDES. Or the bowman will just pokee on thee otherr side of the tower out of range and you wont be able to get your gold.
I love japan and it makes me really happy to see Beasty trying all the strats with them. Just a really cool nation that, to me, really stands out with its roster among all the other civs. :)

@@MyTardisGoWhoosh Google aoe4 counter chart and you can know what counters what at a basic level. The differences you may start seeing is all dependent on unique units. The simple rock paper scissors game is archers beats spears, spears beats horses, horses beats archers. Onnas are good against spears, horses, and crossbows, but get countered by archers and armored units. Samurai or men at arms are good against spears, archers, horseman, but not crossbows and knights. Malians break the triangle by having musofadi warriors being anti armor and javelin throwers countering archers.
I think it’s the matchup. China and variant vs Japan, having said that 1-2 early chu ko nu might have been annoying for beastly. I’d be curious to see how it plays forcing like 1 light cav.
Definitely agree with this one, I lost 2 games today from 4 min longbow spam with (6 vill all in) i scouted but i have not dealt with it before as Japan. I think 1 tower on my Woodline would have saved me but i am new to Japan and lost wood for my horsies.@@Parmigiano1

I think he gets the 1st level when he builds his first farmhouse on the berries. That is why he moves his villagers to berries off of sheep early

if we talk about which civ stands out more than the other, its has to go to Ayuubid or Byzantines for versatility

Look at what opponent has and make counters. There isn’t really a set composition that works for everything
