God this is so satisfying how it shoots the caps off before shooting the missles
I like how these little lids pop off before the rocket comes out.
those little lids mmyeh but it seems to take a second before the missile comes out after they pop
@@lanslater ja
Arguably the best feature
They made me laugh when they did, like the ship was popping open some Pringles!
It’s a compressed air system that’s responsible for that. When ships launch tomahawks from the vertical box launchers, that’s something to see. What most people don’t see when that happens is the crew who’s got to clean and repaint the launchers after launches.
Great System, I worked for Raytheon on a Missile system after highschool and before college, Thanks Sam and the crew of U.S. Military News. 👍 🚀 🇺🇸
@Gary Stewart not true at all..
Yea I worked with the testing crew as active duty of a new variant at navsea years ago.
Love how it pops the rear weather cap off! And. 95% success rate helps!
If those little "caps" can be accelerated to mach two it would be an added deterrent.😄
Yeah
Not necessarily needed.
Seems a good system.
Odd I never heard of it, while it already existed for 40 years.
Same here!😮
You’d be surprised about all the other secret weapons they have in store
Every kid wants one of these for Christmas.
I ordered one for the bed of my truck. Traffic is crazy!

😂😂
looks like it could be adapted to for land based systems very easy
Fantastic system.
R2d2 packs some real badass fire power
It's like a very expensive version of opening beer cans...
😅
But it doesn’t go ‘BRRRRRRRRRRT!’
I just did
@@Mortequal the c-ram does that
No, but you’ve got “blonk, FWWWUUUSHH”
Amazing things these guys can build
wow...Impressive!
When China's Type-055 start launching sea-skimming anti ship missiles, I hope the RIM-116 and variants of have been configured to defend against threats traveling 2-3 feet above the water.
The US also has offensive capabilities.
US Naval ships have a greater combat range than those of China.
This is what QE Carriers need 1000%
I wonder how long it takes to reload that sucker? and if theres only one on the ship... reloading quickly would be critical
It's in style of the CIWS gatling, if you have to use it, something has already gone wrong. This is just the last layer in a 50+ missile umbrella for destroyer-escorted ships.
With the gatlings however, they were pretty sure debris were always still going to hit the ship the missile was targetting, missiles like the RAM punch that little bit farther, hopefully preventing fuel/warheads/debris from still reaching the ship.
The latest version holds 21 missiles.. Wonder what the range is on these? I believe the cwiz is down to the last mile or 1/2 mile..
@All Access Construction it's CIWS and RAM is a few miles father.
Great video
Once you pop...you can't stop! Pringles! I love that it is so compact. A lot of missiles are 15-20 feet long. This is much more compact and has a range of about 6 miles or so. I love that Mach 2 speed, though.
How happy is the crew who have to repaint the ship after the testing of the missiles chars the crap out of the hull! 🤣
Shame the actual rolling property and tech of the missile aren't explained, it's very interesting.
95% success rate. Not bad at all. Thanks uploader.
I don't know why but that little end cap popping off just before it launches cracks me up. 🙂
So what happens if the wrong cap pops off and the missile launches with it's cap on? Does the whole thing blow up?
Looks like a great system, I wonder are they proximity fused or do the need a direct hit?
Infrared seeker for terminal guidance, they said. I think it's for direct hits
Point-detonating impact fuze.
Thank you 🙏 and great 👍 defense system 🚀🚀🚀 big 👍 thumbs up 👍
One of those sistems would be awesome if mounted on an artillery unit.
Awesome
Love this.
Well doesn't this give a whole new meaning to the term. "You just got rimmed".
Why is this system not integrated onto Aegis-equipped ships + Nimitz-class CVN's?
They are. And they are slowly replacing the Phalanx on the surface combatants. The CVN have both the Phalanx and the RAm iirc.
I get R2-D2 vibes watching this little guy😅
technology contact lenses could be use as a scope to see further out it can also have nite vision
Great👍
I don't know how much one RIM-116 missile costs, but regarding the recent drone and cruise missile attacks on Ukraine I wonder if those systems could be used stationary as well. Or are these missiles only suitable for low-altitude intercepts? Thank you for clarifying!
EDIT: Nevermind, one missile costs 1 million. But one powerplant probably costs more, so it might actually make sense for high-value targets.
An anti-ship missile costs more and if it hits, it will do a lot more than $1,000,000,000 damage
So it is definitely a cost effective system
1:07 I like how it's apparently mounted with.... rings of wire?
1960's Ex FTG here, I like this. Can it have multiple warheads?
I once read that they don't install a self reloading system because of the possibility cruise missiles could detonate and cause a catastrophe which is why they have to be reloaded at dock. I'm kinda curious tho whether robotics and drone technology will go hand in hand and one day allow a system to be installed where robotic drones swiftly and safely reload missile and cruise missile systems on board ships.
There used to be a self reloading system, in the form of a crane mounted on most destroyers during the mid-late Cold War. It was absolutely horrifically dangerous and could only be used in completely calm waters, so basically only at port.
Not a problem with RAM, only for missiles to be loaded into VLSI cells.
I hope these ships have more than that,
Depends on the ship. The big decks that have these usually have two plus a CWIS and an escort of small boys.
What is its guidance system ?????
I saw a few seamen out there.. they were using the ol G-Ram. 🤤
What was the price for these, the price for each missile, the price for uptaining cost.. who produces them?
💜
I LOVE Missiles
1812: Cannonballs hurtling through the sky leveling anything and everything in their path,Congreve rockets burning down whole cities, mortar shells plunging into forts wiping out entire gun crews.
2023: Is that a missile? Shoot that out of the sky real quick we’ve got more important shit to do.
It's basically an warship defender
How long to reload?
You got Rim’d
Amazing system, but couldn't the enemy simply fire enough missiles to exhaust the defensive load then destroy the ship with a final missile?
thats a possibility with any deffensive weapon including ageis weapon systems. just hope you have enough missiles to counter the threat.
For 1 shop maybe especially considering they will almost fire 2 per incoming missile. Also can't really see someone firing 40 missile for 1 ship...
The US would just sink the launch platform before it was in range of launching...end of threat.
@@rayjames6096 well if you have a fleet of 20 ships in a carrier strike group vs the entire Chinese navy it’s hard to believe that would be true. If we had every asset available in the pacific then yes but the Chinese are increasing capabilities very quickly. Let’s hope the US can crush them.
@@seanpruitt6801 There are US bases all over the Pacific and countries around China, the Chinese also have no capability to track and target a US carrier in real time. They also have never hit a moving target with these so fearsome hypersonic missiles...if they even actually work, the Chinese military is as corrupt from the top down as the Russian military.
Love to see a swarm of these missles smoke the Iranian fast attack craft.
Awesome. When do we get the civilian version?
😂
this is best for tanks and helicopters
Let's see if it can lock into a hypersonic within 30 secs of radar contact
How fast can it be reloaded
The environment most love those caps falling into the ocean
As if it would enjoy tens of thousands of gallons of burning oil
Ok, can we get this in candy apple red? Tired of gray. In fact wrap the entire ship in red. 😂
May God protect America
Russia thinks they have the fastest missle but it's useless if I can't leave the launcher
RIM 116 Holds 21 missiles, im assuming this launcher with only 1 missile is for test purposes only.
Yush
It's Phaaaalanx
Needs a better, faster reloader for 21st century battlefield: Saturation attacks, from air, land, sea and space
Neat missile, but does it know where it is?
Semangat
I wonder how much do these missiles cost each? I wouldn't be surprised even they cost a million dollars for each one.
It stores 21 missiles? And what would happen if someone fires 22, or 25, 50 or 100 missiles at you?
It has to go through multiple layers first. Assuming they even get to fire first. There's the sm-6 with 450km for ultra long range engagement, sm-2 for medium-long, essm for short range and the RAM and phalanx for point defense. And each strike group has far more than 50 missiles as the burke alone have 90+ VLS with the ESSM quad-packed in a single VLS cell.
Why would they? When was the last war fought at sea?
👍👍👍
I wonder what would happen if you stick a sausage behind the hole where the missile combust. Will it be instantly cooked? 😆
That’s a Shite Ton of Freedom!! ✌🏻
Can i have one of those in my garden
Can’t stop brahmos
the Navy still needs phalanx aside from ram right now they have think again , since there is a new threat glooming on a horizon. , a swarm of suicide drones is one of those, that would spend the RAM's expensive missile downing a cheap yet affordable-easy to mass produce disposal units, making way for the anti-ship missile.
Some ships had both
@@blakeh6250 😌 that's a relief but still they probably train all the sailor who manned a starboard chained gun or 50 call ... mini gun for successful counter measure 🤔
@strikezero01 not true, I'm a navy chief retired, all rates go through schools and practice in the fleet. gunners mates train for 50 cal.. I had FC's, GM''s and torpedoes..plus last ship all the Aegis techs..
@@blakeh6250 well at least they got routine to defend the ship "to the last bullet" exercise, worth it
@strikezero01 plus you got SM2, SM3 and SM6 missiles for defense, along with 5 inch gun, 25mm gun 50 cal, 5.56 auto guns, harpoon, tomahawk mk 48 etc etc...plenty of fire power.
Very scary
so does it actually work? more importantly, does it work against more than one missile? I bet nobody has ever actually tried a live fire test vs incoming yet huh. i mean shooting a single missile at an unarmed target drone isn't really much of a test is it? I know they said they did over 300 tests but I don 't think they've ever used it for real yet.
US systems get such a deep level of testing that their firing tests are like the real thing. The US also clears its inventory out regularly to the point that it knows they work. So in other words they just do not buy something install it and leave it for 30 years.
Research the acquisition and testing documentation and you'll see that it was tested against 4 simultaneous targets with one offset 30 degrees and one offset 180 degrees a and killed all four
Make sure it can't be jam by electronic jamming and electronic warfare or be taken over by the enemies
litters with lids with every shot just what the planet needs.
there's could had been strings with return springs on the sides to collect and reuse the caps. like a tape measure the cap pops off and the return springs returns it to the side of the device so its out of the way and ready to be reused.
Really?
That's what you see inside your head?
I'm nominating you for most tangential comment of the decade.

Good eye! I think it's just a sailor lol

Did the USS Stark have this?
No. It had SM1, Oto Melara 76mm and Phalanx CIWS.
@@Emperorvalse Thank you
CIWS was in standby mode, no engagement possible...wrong decision on higher ups
Ukraine needs a boatload of these missiles right now.

God help us and God bless the military. We know there are many things going on right now. Jesus is the way 🙏🏼

Smart...mhmmm, not like theirs a laser system active today that works about 10,000 times faster and more accurate and can stop vastly faster missles and is cheaper and more reliable for any missle and is lighter weight and doesnt require much maintenance or explosives handleing...........o WAIT THERE IS. *eye roll*
It is so sad to think that the guys that we had firing our missiles 40 years ago have been replaced with guys that might be wearing panties. What have they done to my Navy?😞
but reloading it seems not fast enough
Still have VLS AAW missiles and generally CIWS.
Tăng kích cỡ hộp
And the cost per missile is???
If ya gotta ask, ya can't afford it.
Tăng số lượng tên lửa
I’m so glad that an ER visit costs $5000 because of this
oh boy! fod!
Imagine the fate of somalian pirates rowing at the direction of this ship 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
slow reloading...should replace the missile holder as a whole....reload it separately
