      Its worse than that. Those bonuses would have been paid out regardless of what was going on. What the real problems is, is that they just dont fucking know where the money has gone. Its disappeared in to the Post Offices consolidated account, never to be seen again! Seems to me that finding how much was paid should be relatively straight forward as its just a total of all the outcomes from the court cases AND the numbers from all the agreements made with the SPM's that didnt result in criminal prosecution. Easily enough found by going through their scrupulously kept records right!

      This is the bizarre thing, the finance team had suspense accounts with funds, but there was no reporting of it. I don't know why the finance team has not been thoroughly investigated, brought into the inquiry and KPMG's reports scrutinised. Is there some deeper story about why Tony Blair was so keen to involve Fujitsu / Horizon. The historical data should still be available, and modern computing and forensic techniques should reveal a lot more.

      From an accounting treatment perspective it's not that difficult. In general accounting terms, such payment would have been treated as recovered 'stolen' turnover that was being returned to the revenue accounts in the PO finance system. Considering this was a pretty frequent type of posting (bearing in mind there was £36M over the course a few years), it would have had its own revenue account code in the finance system as it wouldn't have been possible for such postings to be attributed to a particular type of business activity e.g. sale of postage stamps or sale of lottery tickets. The total postings in this revenue account code would have been recognised as 'earned' and taken to the P&L as a revenue contribution at the month end finance run. These payments would then become a contribution to the profit side of the PO.

You reimburse each Postmaster what they were forced to pay - with interest AND compensation . Not hard - just do it case by case. And don't say it takes too long - look how long it's taken already. And how much of that £36 million will be kept by the Post Office because over the years ‘compensation’ schemes have been tortuously dragged out, more and more subpostmasters have died off?

    • @suzannemcguigan2752
      @suzannemcguigan2752 Месяц назад

      36 million is only what (they think) the SPM's paid from their own funds.
      That won't even touch the sides of the compensation bill.
      When you add, what each one paid, their loss of earnings until retirement, their homes they lost, their legal costs, the torture for their families, the shame they suffered. The mental torture of being convicted of a crime that you didn't commit.
      36 million might cover 10 SPM's compensation payout. There are around 800 owed redress. It isn't compensation, they need to be reimbursed for every penny they've lost since day one, including interest. Then you can discuss compensation for the disgusting way they've been treated.

    This Inquiry has served its purpose to this extent. It is now manifestly obvious that criminal proceedings should, if a shred of justice remains in Britain (an arguable point), be instituted against a very, very large number of Post office and Horizon personnel whose revelations to the Inquiry reveal a prima facia case against them. to wait until the Report would be as gross a denial of justice as the original miscarriage of justice.
    Butt hen there is the CPS and the Police forces involved and the hope freezes.
