    Hi Sam for your info I bought mine, 2021 model ex display version with a load of extras due to new showroom stock coming in for same as new model price. Had not ridden or seen one other than You Tube reviews (particularly yours) and pics of my bike sitting in the showroom. Anyway - delivered 27th Jan 22. and had to wait for Sat for first ride out after ACF50 applied. Just completed 200 miles and I am amazed how good this bike is. WOW Only niggle so far Fuel gauge thing ?????? had engine warning light on today (electrical issue, not noticed) which went off after a restart after 50 miles. Think it must be damp plug somewhere after washing Sat road salt off. Washed again after Sun ride and back on again!!! Will let you know what happens.
    Carry on the great Vlogs. Cheers Mike

      @SamVBikes  2 года назад

      Congratulations on the new bike! Glad you enjoyed the bike. I'm wondering if it could be a low battery voltage. This current weather and irregular riding seems to have caused a few people to have low or dead batteries. As soon as that happens, the electrical system on any of these new bikes hates it! Keep me updated!

      @@SamVBikes Yes a few thing is just don't get re kTM my pet hate is the Lighting when you have the DRL on you are NOT ALLOWED! to have your headlight on at the same time time? only full beam. I have many many extras fitted inc the KTM front spots but I would like my headlight ON! and the DRL at the same time but you cant. What happens is some car drivers seem to think you have flashed them and they pull out at junctions etc. Iv got use to the stupid cancel indicator switch. But Im getting weaving wobbling at speeds if you let one hand off the bars. Other than seat comfort which i now have the OEM seats The heated ergo seats(high) and the Orange Rally Ironing Board seat. I hope to flatten and bed at least one in LOL.... But other than that the bike is agile fast as fcuk and amazing. Im 54mpg just getting rid of MITAS tyres for some Conti Trail Attack 3's.

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 года назад +1

      Ahh really? I'm sure I can have both DRL and headlight on. It's very decisive on when it wants to actually change but if I go into the menu and turn off my DRL, it puts the headlight on all the time, and the DRL stays on but quite dim compared to usual. I'll double check when I get on the bike next but I'm sure I have managed to get it to do that through the menu. For the high speed wobble, might be worth re-balancing your wheels. Ricardo Yeep had the same issue but it went away after he rebalanced the wheels. I've also found it's far more settled at high speed if you dial up the rear preload to around 70%/80%. That puts more weight on the front wheel and stops it moving about, at the sacrifice of a little wind protection. I'm looking forward to getting my OEM ergo seat. Still not in stock yet!!!

  • @vincentlong8773

    Great review! I have a 790 R and it takes a little while to register the fuel load after filling...but that's due to the saddlebag tank. Love the stability of them but HATE the totally inaccuracy of how much fuel is in there as in I cover 150m and its barely moved then its drops to a quarter of a tank left! Good job I know the fuel range on it. 😂
    My 790 went in for new chain and sprockets last week and I was offered the opportunity to take the 1290s out. I declined because I knew I'd hate my 790 after that! 🤣

      Does the fuel gauge work accurately on the 1290s?

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 года назад +1

      I'm still quite surprised how relaxed and comfortable they can be when you do manage to restrain yourself too haha. The fuel gauge seems to work well, although the estimated range isn't the best.. seems to stick to 170 miles, then suddenly drops to 120, then counts down properly. I'd assume that's more because it's estimating mileage for a full tank above the sensor.. then I suddenly drop below the sensor where It becomes more sensitive

    Hi Sam. Great review mate. I've had mine for about a month and it's brilliant. Two niggles I have is buffering from the screen, I'll buy that Puig deflector and see what that does, the other niggle is bringing the bike to life after not using it for a couple of days. No matter what I do it won't wake up. I end up moving the bike a few inches then it'll wake up. Have you had any problem with the keyless start mate?

    Hi, 1290 outgoing model owner here.
    At least my model, doesnt like to change "Load" wich is what i assume you reffer as '"Seat Height", WHILE the motorcycle is under load, or riding.
    It does change the setting, the preload mech works up and down, but it grinds down inside.
    I actually had to take my bike to the dealer for a "suspension reset" due to lock on the preload system, there they told me to not change this setting while on the bike, and mostly never while riding, if possible only change the setting with the bike on the center stand, but is fine on the lateral stand if there is no bags, panniers and such already attached.
    This is at the manual, sadly, so listen to this words of caution hehe.
    Is my belief that ktm should have locked the change of this setting on software when the bike is not on stand to avoid damages, they do have all the sensors needed for this.
    Nonetheless, i hope you enjoy your toy as much i enjoy mine, this bike is a beast....

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for the words of warning! The preload on this bike has a number of different settings. You can preload up and down which essentially lowers and raises the rear of the bike. You can have it in auto suspension mode which measures the amount of weight and adjusts accordingly. I've used it countless times while riding and no issues as yet, but always good to know about how others have found theirs! Thanks for watching and for the comment

      I had a 2017 SD GT with the same issue on the preload adjuster. Had to have it “reset” once. Never had any more issues once I only adjusted it without load on the bike. That’s because the previous models used a servo. I believe the current models use hydraulic pressure for adjustment, so now it’s not a problem.

      Nice! Yes I have, I'm currently 3k miles deep on it and still loving it! There are a few niggles you'll get used to, and work out which revs you need to be at for a smooth quickshifter change and bits like that, but it's an awesome machine. Just done a 1100 mile Wales trip on it too which was a dream

    Hi Sam. Great reviews and general updates on the KTM. I am on the edge of a purchase and just have a running in question. Did you use the quick shift from day 1. I have seen another review where they said they would not use it for the first 1k miles! Just wondered what you did with yours and what the dealer recommended. Cheers Mike

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 года назад

      Hey! Thank you. Appreciate the kind words! I didn't use it much for the first 100 miles or so, but after that just used it sparingly until the first service. Only in peak revs etc. I asked the dealer and they said its primarily not labouring the engine during run-in and snappy gear changes. Basically give the gear box time to bed in well and you'll be fine. With how refined and tested these engines are, I doubt it makes any difference! Cheers!

    Sam Vincent Would you answer several questions: vibes at higher RPM - do they bother you? What option do you use do adaptive height? Have you had any yellow messages/errors during ride related to preload? I had 1h short test ride, and thinking about the bike. Preload was 0%, as I'm 5'7, not tested auto

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 года назад +2

      Hey! Sure thing,
      Vibes at high speeds are fine. Once you're in 6th gear at motorway speed, I barely notice them anymore than I did on my Tracer 700.
      Adaptive ride height I use all the time which is just dialling up and down the preload. I normally use around 60% when riding to stop the bouncing rear end, then drop it to 20% when coming to a stop if I'm worried I won't get my feet down.
      I got one preload error message the other day but I think that's because I accidently hit the kill switch after pressing the start button.. so it confused it and wasn't sure if I wanted to start or not. Turned it off and on again, and the error was gone. Never had a problem apart from that, so think it was just my fault by confusing the bike.
      With the low seat and preload set to 0% when stopped, you should be okay. Auto suspension is really good, and separate to the preload so you could have auto suspension mode on and preload set to 0% if you wanted. Hope that helps

    Thoughts on SAS vs s1000xr?

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 года назад +1

      Depends what you want from a bike. If you want an inline-4 sports bike with impeccable handling which also has the ability to go on a tour, XR all day long. If you get more of a thrill from a torquey wheelie machine like the Super Duke R, but also want to go touring and off road, SAS any day of the week. For me the XR was perfect, but almost too perfect... I get off it thinking it was amazing, because I'm stunned with how good it was at going quick... the SAS I can get off after doing 30mph and have jaw ache from smiling too much. There is a vid of me riding the XR earlier on the channel If you're interested. Hope that long answer helps 😂

    • @DEGMOTOV
      @DEGMOTOV 2 года назад

      I have tried already the XR, and I did like it a lot!
      It is super comfortable, handles super well, lots of peak power.
      However it lacks torque down low, which I am used to on my Yamaha MT09.
      The XR I believe it can handle touring with 2 up easily , and will also be super fun on trackdays.
      The SAS I have yet to test. The torque it has sounds fun!
      However the handling might not be that good compared with the XR.
      Touring it is best on the SAS due to the torque available.
      I need to try it.
      I have seen your videos on the XR and the SAS.
      But since you got the SAS instead of the XR I was curious about it!

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 года назад +1

      @@DEGMOTOV Agreed! The XR is a fantastic bike but it just lacked a bit of character, likely due to the lack of torque. Just got back from a 1100 mile trip on the SAS, and even loaded up, I never had an issue with power or grunt. Powering out of corners with 5 days worth of kit, tent and all, just felt like normal. You do need to set the SAS up to suit what you're doing though. Put it in sport mode suspension, rally mode throttle etc, and it handles like a dream and is basically an oversized superduke, but those modes would make touring hard work! Definitely worth giving it a go, but you might find it a bit vibey/clunky if youre used to a MT09. Not quite as smooth

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  Год назад

      I'd assume that's because the throttle response is more aggressive so more likely to hit the run-in rev limiter quicker. Having said that, you can over rev it in any mode so not sure why they would tell you that

      Not the same model, but I had a 2015 1200S which I so disliked and distrusted that I offed it before 10,000 miles. The list included: throttle maps that usually allowed an old lady in a Prius to outdrag you at the lights, but randomly would give you full power causing a wheelie; inaccurate gear indicator that would randomly cut the engine at the lights when it wandered into 1 or 2 instead of neutral; Sky Hook suspension that wanted to do tank slappies at medium speeds; a pile of metal shavings on the magnetic drain bolt up to 3/16 inch at oil changes.
      I am very happy with the 1290SAS that replaced it.

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 года назад

      The clip on makes a huge difference for the money, and is far more accessible for most people than paying for a shop to design and make a completely new shield. Unless you get something the size of a barn door fitted to the front, it's not guaranteed to be any better as it won't have been wind tunnel tested either. Although in ideal world that would work, anyone can order a clip on and make their experience far better for not a huge amount of money
