The car was off the side of the track and then she tried to get it moving leaving the rear end on the track, which then caused the car to get hit again. Can’t blame her for trying to get going again but surely safety first
The Ferrari that hit her the second time drove right into her under yellow. YELLOW. Yes she was on the track but how in the world didn't the Ferrari see her car?
This is why you never try to do a U-turn on track. Always spin up the rears and flick the car around, that way you can avoid having to back onto the track completely blind.
Puts incredible stress on the drivetrain and gearbox though, which isn't always recommended if you've just had a big lateral impact. Also she might have just bogged down or hit the barrier again, neither very desirable.
She did forget to press the brake pedal (or maybe it wasn't working?) but the other guy is definitely more at fault, the car was pretty much stopped. Was maybe checking his steering wheel?
I agree, but from what I have seen she rolled back into the track while focused on the steering wheel. Even though yellow flag is up, it’s never a good idea to roll backwards onto the track like that. So both are to be blamed imo, but at least noone got ingured that’s the most important thing.
All drivers carries a phone, if the car breaks down and they need to have help for the team. Some drivers also have their own phone if they are transported to the medical center, so they can reassure their relatives.
Yup all are multiple WEC champions with the benefit of hind sight. That first crash broke her steering…she didn’t know that as, at the time she was still able to steer albeit not by much…then tried to get the car re started and it stalled when reversing again probably due to impact of first crash. Most of the kids commenting on RUclips would have just wet themselves and gave up after the first impact….it’s why they’re on YT commenting and she’s out there driving these types of cars and taking part in Le Mans…I know who I’d rather ‘doff my hat to. Hope she and the team will be back next year
@@friktionrc and she will come back ! She had an accident that could have ended her career, and her life, that moment alone, but here she is at Le Mans.
with hindsight , patience would have saved her from the second impact . She could have waited for the marshals to push her into the right direction , the damage caused by the gdrive coming together had compromised their result anyways .The second hit possibly hit important transmission bits , as only then the car stuck in first gear . Very unfortunate .
This is so sad and I'm so sorry that she had to give up. The racing car's gearbox and clutch are not easy to maneuver. I hope that the next generation of LMP2 racing cars will become an automatic "auxiliary system" for maneuvering in the gearbox.
She was brave, but at that point when the car is constantly stalling and is stuck in reverse, and on top of that you let it roll back in to the middle of the road, you just have to accept it's over. The marshals told her 3 times to get out (which doesn't mean an instant DNF, as opposed to what many commenters seemingly believe), and they're trained people, not just some random morons. Yes, I know it's very easy to find the solution from the outside, but many minutes have passed since the initial crash, she should've just known better. Next time if this happens (and she finds herself on the middle of the road again), she'll get out much earlier with this experience in mind.
Feel so bad for her, but if she maybe gone for the phone after the 2nd hit she might have been able to have gotten the car going before being forced out of the car
Why? They see that every year at this race. Every car has a mobile phone with them because when the car goes out, the radio goes with it. In addition, the radio coverage on such a long track is not the best...

@@ross_boss ofc but it's quite funny. Like male drivers putting a massive effort on their hairstyles to then put on a helmet for no one to see it and to end up ruined by the time they take their helmets off lol
I was listening to Radio Le Mans and they mentioned this!
Makeup too
She should join another sport. Racing is not her's.
WHAHAHHA I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD WHEN SHE JUST CLOSED THE DOOR LIKE NO I AM NOT COMING BYE
Glad shes safe and determination is admirable, but the safety crew must be respected. They are putting their lives on the line for the drivers' benefit.
Just closes the door on the stewards. Love it.
Its a double-edged sword
Is the clutch a pedal in lmp2 I thought it was a paddle on the steering wheel
My guess is there is a clutch pedal for switching from neutral to first or reverse
When the car is launched, you shift gears with the paddles without having to use the clutch pedal
that must be devastating to be taken out like this and then also hit by traffic I did love watching her move inside the car tho. it must be second nature to her; she knows where every button is, where every lever is etc without even looking at them & having a phone taped to the car is actually really smart for emergencies like this one
This shows the comittment of a real racing driver. Never give in until there is no choice. RESPECT.
So no one was seeing the yellow flags and hit her while standing or what?
She literally park in the middle of the track mate. She not choose to Do It, but it's logical that you hit the barrier, maybe your car have a damage?
@@roly5250 see wikipedia for double yellow:

She handled it like a boss. I would cry my eyes out in this kind of situation.
I don't think so, read my other comment, she came across the track 2 time and than stoll the car in the middle of the road after a fast corner, this is simple kamikaze beaviour. This should be panished.
@@SalvatorePellitteri no it shouldn't. It was double yellow flag and she was 100% right to save the car.
So sad, but most important is that you feel good and without faults. It will go better next time

Misleading title. She didnt crash. She was crash into.
That would be one nerve racking situation to be in.
is this the same person who had the huge f3 crash at Macau?
Yes it is.
Her nails are on point 💅🏼
Never knew they could bring their phones with them
I think they keep a phone in the car. They definitely did when mark webber drove the Mercedes in the 90s. Don’t know if they still do that.
Usefull if the in car radio gets damaged in a crash.
Despite radios there are parts of the track where reception is crap, so they carry a phone as back up.
Crashes.
Phone Rings..
"Hello? Have you been involved in an accident that wasn't your fault?"
The car was off the side of the track and then she tried to get it moving leaving the rear end on the track, which then caused the car to get hit again. Can’t blame her for trying to get going again but surely safety first
So it s her fault at the end?

I love a Sophi and her foreign accent,,,,,being a race car driver ,,, well it just makes her my queen….
This is why you never try to do a U-turn on track. Always spin up the rears and flick the car around, that way you can avoid having to back onto the track completely blind.
Yup! That’s where experience comes in
Puts incredible stress on the drivetrain and gearbox though, which isn't always recommended if you've just had a big lateral impact. Also she might have just bogged down or hit the barrier again, neither very desirable.
The car would not move forward in 1st gear. That was the problem from the outset!
In Le Mans, a driver must try everything in order for you to get to the pits after a crash. This is one example of that.
So the crash knocked out her radio?
she was in the part of the circuit that has poor radio signal.
also, racecars radios mostly only work when the car is running due to them having only small baterys because of the weight reduction reasons etc.
Filming angles. Where placing cameras.
@A M yeah, It’s really difficult for us who can only see it from camera angles to know what actually happend, it happend because racing. 😊
how did she take her phone to the car? It's allowed? And where did she put the pohone in car?
All drivers carries a phone, if the car breaks down and they need to have help for the team. Some drivers also have their own phone if they are transported to the medical center, so they can reassure their relatives.
What happened to Team-Radio?
She's such an icon I love her
Respect to her . She's a knockout wish her luck in the future.
Only here for the armchair expert comments..Bad luck Sophia.
What is the small screen to the right with such bright lights? It looks quite distracting.
That's the electronic flag system.
It's not that bright in real life, the cameras make it look brighter than it actually is else viewers wouldn't be able to see anything.
Where is the clutch in lmp2
I think it's a pedal, yes

What happened at 2:06? Someone crashed into her??
Me dolió mucho la manera en la que termino su carrera, espero para el próximo año vuelva a por todas!
Mi primer recuerdo de Colapinto fue este accidente, ahora esta en F1, que grande el pibe 🤣
Feel so bad for her, but if she maybe gone for the phone after the 2nd hit she might have been able to have gotten the car going before being forced out of the car
What a trooper. She'll be a valuable member for any team with the brains to hire her.
How did she hit the second car? hasnt the field of cars passed yet? I think she thought that was the case.
Stalled when trying to reverse off the track, no. 74 car didn't see her in time and collected her
Lol all these experts here saying the t bone was her fault, what dyou want her to do? When the car stalls 😂😂
i blame it on the jg diff
Imagine you are the marshal who looked in her car while she was on her phone😂😂
Why? They see that every year at this race. Every car has a mobile phone with them because when the car goes out, the radio goes with it. In addition, the radio coverage on such a long track is not the best...
2:04 the hit didn't look that hard outside but onboard it looks awful. And that was at slow speed. Imagine at high speed. Side impact are truly the worst kind
2:00 to 2:05 Just doing a 3 point turn across the width of the track

This was the Emergency Phone from the Team. Not her Private one

Top effort there for not giving up! Calmness under pressure 👍😊
So why a phone in the car and not radio transmissions
because radio tansmissions is bad in this part of the track
why not both? for inside and outside the car and also in case the car's radio transmission is failing?
Why has she moved the car on the track to keep on driving. That’s Risky
The track there is particularly narrow and there's not much run off between the barriers on either side, plus the steering lock on these cars is nothing to write home about. Other drivers did similar moves throughout the race but your not criticising them are you?
Misogynist!
Cause any driver would do the very same? She didn't know the car would stall every time she would try. There should have been yellow flags to prevent the t-bone and more attention from that driver. The driver that was racing along the guy that t-boned her managed to go around her just fine so that's no excuse for that driver.
