🎶 Fresh Hopped Vol 1 Lyrics:
I’m a first-year hop, called cream of the crop.
My lupin, in bloom again, so don’t go busting my chop.
Cause I’m fresh off the bine wet, dripping, and hot.
My bitterness will get you tripping with the acid I drop.
I Got Flavor, aroma, a one-stop-shop.
Put the oil in the boil just to make the wort pop.
Yea you thought I was rot, but I can’t be stopped.
Let’s get fresh-hopped!
🎥 Facts for Video Nerds:
This video was shot entirely on an iPhone. No special apps were used. It was edited in Adobe Premiere. The singing hops animation was done in Adobe After Effects. The @Brewfather screencast was filmed, edited, and animated in ScreenFlow.

Have you grown your own hops to homebrew? If so, I'd like to know. Also, if you have any growing tips I can use next year, please let me know. I plan to make this an annual series.
I planted mine in the spring before having a good look at the shade. Turns out I'll need to cut away a lot of foliage next year to get them more sun. They still grew, just not well... Cheers, looking forward to the vid!
@@PartyTimeBrewing I honestly think mine had the opposite problem: too much sun and extreme heat.
Yes, for many years. I found they sucked up too much wort and the pellets were much more consistent. Ended up not being worth the drying and packaging I would do...they were fun to look at though.
@@Spanfil thankfully I didn’t get a huge yield this year for that. But I’m hoping next year I have a ton of them. Probably do a hopback-like filter instead of putting them in the kettle.
@@mattgiovanisci yeah, I am I'm in the same. get a hot, dry and windy day and burns them right back to nothing.
The 'Get Fresh Hopped' animated segment may very well be the best RUclips/BrewTube piece of content ever created! Cheers!
Haha! Thank you! Means a lot ☺️
Just reminder than I’ve been waiting 1 year for a well crafted video with some catchy song that won’t leave my brain for weeks! Hope every thing is all good
Everything is all good. Working on more videos this year!
I did not know this was a year-old video when I clicked it, now I'm anxiously waiting for the update video! Binged all your videos, you're the youtube homebrew king rn
Thank you so much!
The production quality of your videos is amazing. Awesome content!
Glad you enjoy it!
I did my hops for a couple of years, biggest thing that increased my hops growth was to put the watering on a timer, every day they got a drink and I never forgot again
Nice! I'm definitely doing that next year! Thanks for the tip.
I want all the songs you make available on a Spotify Playlist for when I brew!
Haha! Unfortunately, I don't write extended versions. So that rap song is literally only 25 seconds in Logic.
count me in!
Great video- thanks!
You bet!
Best brewhouse and rap skills in the game
Haha! Thank you ;-)
These videos are awesome man, just subscribed, keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
Seriously love the effort you put in to everything. Music got me going!
Glad you enjoy it!
Always at the very top of THE BEST homebrew videos on the Tube!
Wow, thanks!
Just watched all your videos! We need more!
Working on it!
I love the hip hop! lol
Also, I planted hop rhizomes and gosh they got here way too late for the seasons of California! I got Cascade, Centennial, Comet, and Goulding-->(sent by mistake). First-year was not productive. Going to dig up the rhizomes and put them in a container for the winter. They were planted directly in the ground with an EMT trellis I made.
Thanks! Yea, I heard the first year is not great. But I think they got way too much sun and heat this year. Looks like I burned them almost.
Great Video!!! Amazing!!!
Thanks!
I hope you have more videos coming soon.. You've got me hooked and I must see more!!
Yup! Working on one right now. It's been a work in progress for months. It's gonna be about brewing and serving cask "real ale" at home.
@@BrewCabin
Nice! Can't wait!
One more great video!!! Really helpful and funny channel.
Appreciate it 👍
I planted two hop rhizomes last Spring, Cascade and Centennial. I got just shy of three ounces of cones. I used them in a three gallon batch and called it First Crop IPA! It came out pretty good and I Still have it on tap. Thanks for the video and I'll have to watch next year! Cheers!
Oh sweet! Glad you got a beer out of it and glad I'm not alone ;-)
Plant peas and oats (terminate at the seed milk stage) with it and use a better organic soil with a super large hole in the bottom of your pots to have a better chance.
Wanting to grow my own hops soon, great video.
Cheers mate 🍺 🍻
Heck yea 👍🍻
Looking to start my own brewery, came across your videos in my research...nice job, entertaining, I enjoy the content. Keep doing what you're doing!
Thanks, will do!
Really great video man, please keep it up and you will explode as the main Brewing channel, no doubt! (along with Clawhammer supply as well lol)
I appreciate that!
oh man what a song!
Thanks!
Stoked! I’ve had the privilege of using fresh hops in an IPA and it came out so fruity and delicious.
Not to spoil anything, but my first year hops didn’t not come out as well as I hoped. Next year, I’m gonna crush it. I learned so much from my mistakes this year.
I also had the privilege to use fresh hops that I didn’t grow myself! BUT I do want to try growing some day.
I'm hoping there are more videos THIS YEAR!
I meant next year to do a full ground-to-glass episode ;-)
I kinda did the same thing this year, I planted 5 and 2 came up, I didn’t get any cones but I wasn’t expecting anything I just wanted to have a decent crown to plant in the ground and hope for a good grow season next year.
Hope you get a good one next year. I'm hoping for the same ;-)
Thumbs up for the Beastie Hops super sick rhymes
Thanks!
@brew cabin Recently discovered your channel and love your videos. I see it's been 6 months since you've made anything. I hope you make some more. Cheers! 🍻
More to come! Been working on a video for 6 months. Had to learn how to do some animation and cellar work. I've said too much ;-)
Disappointed with hop yeild but never disappointed with your video's!! ❤️ My first year of cascade I only got one small hop cone 😂 this will be the year.
Can't wait for the next video and song? Would love to see a video on how you add fruit to flavour a sour beer.
Thanks! yea, that's a great idea. Adding it to the idea book.
FYI your fresh hops are considered wet, so actually weigh about 5x more than dry whole cone hops. So when you use 1.5 oz of fresh hops, it's actually like putting 0.3 oz of whole hops in your brewing software.
Good point!
And alpha acids varies from harves to harvest so that 14% might be inaccurate as well
More vids please
Coming soon!
The next year you will probably have too many hop cones to even use them all up! My freezer keeps filling up each year from my 7 plants, this year I didn't even harvest them because I don't have any space left. Glad to see more famous homebrewers making the switch to Brewfather, it's so much easier to share the recipes and adapt them!
I honestly hope I get a ton of hops next year. That would be awesome. And yea, I've been using BrewFather since day one. I've been waiting for a web-based app. I was planning to build one myself. But then BrewFather came out and did it way better than I ever could LOL.
@@BrewCabin keep us posted on your next harvest! I suggest on finding a pair of helping hands for next year, picking up cones alone gets old after the third plant or so;) any chances you'll be able to provide a discount code for brewfather in the future? Btw I loved your podcast episodes with James Spencer!
I don’t own BrewFather but I can ask them to provide me a discount. That said it’s only $20 a year. So it’s the cheapest and most powerful tool in your brewing arsenal.
Where are you? Upload more of this good stuff
Been working on multiple videos. This is a passion project for me. The day job’s been working me overtime.
Waiting for your new vedio !
Working on it!
Great video, I really appreciate the time and effort it take to make them, completed different to the rest of home brewing videos out there,👍👍👍. Is there a chance you can tell or show us what is on your book shelf of brewing. Love your videos from Scotland 🏴 🏴
Much appreciated! My favorite books are The New IPA by Scott Janish and all the ingredient books: Hops, Water, Yeast, and Malt by Brewer's Publications. I also love MashMaker by Michael Dawson.
@@BrewCabin I’ll be putting them on my Xmas list,👍👍🤙👍
Loving the vids! Is there a place I can get these songs? Help me chuckle through a brew day 🤘
Thanks! I don’t have full versions of these songs but I’ve been asked to put them on Spotify. So I think I’m gonna make extended versions and make the first every homebrewing album.
Just found you. Best wishes from Beer Paradise Germany! Prost!
Sweet! Thanks for subscribing!
Some of the best brewing content on youtube! I just started brewing, and when I have the space your entire setup is my dream! Looking forward to more videos!
Wow, thanks!
Totally agree. Most of the other content out there is brutal. Please keep putting out more videos, Brew Cabin!
Will do!
Where can we buy that hop song?!? That song is dope! Love the channel.
Haha! Thanks! The song is only that long. I’d have to make a longer version.
I think your IBUs will be out because you selected whole hops for your fresh hops flame out addition but that will be for dried whole cones and you need about 10x the fresh hops to equal dried
Good call
I live in Colo Springs, I like what your doing. I have 6 acres of land. Wonder how hard it would be to grew hops here? If you know, I would be interested in working with you on it.
I think it would be easy to grow hops for sure!
This year was the second time I brewed with fresh hops. I absolutely love using them! The challenge hop plants I used absolutely exploded this year and I was 'forced' into a double brew day making a golden ale and a double IPA
That sounds awesome!
Did you grow hops when you were out here in Jersey making pool videos?
No. I only started growing them when I moved to Colorado. This is the first year I actually tried in a new place.
You are a better rapper than gardener. Head over to Build a Soil and let Jeremy drop some knowledge on you. In fact, try and find a way to do a colab with Build a Soil family farms next year; that would be youtube gold. Y’all have similar target audience with plenty of overlap.
So true LOL
I've got Magnum, comet, and cashmere going right now. They are but wee sprouts at the moment...
Nice! Working on a new video for 2022
They grew up. Throwing in some fresh comet hops in with my citra pellets for a neipa brew this weekend.
How'd they do year 2? I've heard they don't love containers and are limited in them due to the shallow root system. Following for more vids, throw out some more they don't need to be perfect.
Mine all died. But I replanted in year 3 with 30 gallon grow bags and a real trellis. They did incredibly well. Got buckets of hops this year. And also added automatic irrigation. That was key.
Dude, when is the next video coming out ?
End of November 2022 ;-)
Hey its december 😮 there is no new video ! Really enjoying your content!
Living in SoCal I struggle growing hops but year 2 is always better than year 1. Was a fun journey to watch though, here’s to next year! 🍺
Yea, I bet the heat is brutal to them. We had smoke and 100º days for two months straight. Next year!
will you be using the same rhizomes that are already planted? or start over with new rhizomes ???
Same rhizomes hopefully.
Awesome video. I suggest using something other than miracle grow next time. Bat Guano is gold. You can also go to hydroponic stores and get some compost tea.
Good to know! I’m trying to learn everything I can about growing this year.
@@BrewCabin I’ve grown maybe 10-15 varieties. Let me know if I can help. Love your content.
Any update on this year?
Not yet. Still trying to make room in my schedule to produce more.
Hey man, it looks like you're not particularly active anymore, but I'm wondering how the hops turned out now that you've had a couple years.
Gearing up to be active again. The hops in 2023 turned out way better. I made a bunch of upgrades which I'll include in this year's video. Mainly I got a real trellis and 30 gallon grow bags.
soo... we are rolling into spring? 🙂
I don't understand. What do you mean?
Where have you been my friend? I'm missing your content.
I’m working on multiple videos but supply chain issues are backing things up. I’m working on videos about Kviek, cask ale, decoction, and a brewery tour.
Awesome! Dude you're gonna be swimming in hops next year! I like to trim the first few bull shoots that come up and then start training when summer starts. Aphids and mites are pretty common and you can use insecticidal soap and/or lady bugs to keep them in check.
I really really HOPe so. Thanks for the tips! Yea, I didn't know what destroyed them. I assumed the heat. But yea, if that's common in CO, then I'll be on the lookout. Would love to have a hop mentor next year LOL.
The end of the year is getting closer, still no new content 😢. Nice to see you on Basic Brewings channel though.
Working on producing a lot more videos this year. I have started working on 3 of them.
I once planted hops at a rental. Nothing really came from it the first year. We moved right after. I assume its a total shit show of magnum hops now.
Hahaha! Yea, the pots are a limitation for sure. I'm hoping next year will better when I build a proper hop trellis.
ajoyce, that’s funny! LoL
First-season hops may not even grow cones - that's completely normal. And even if they do it's probably not going to be that much. I usually don't even harvest my first season growth even if they grow cones. Let them die back and be ready for HUGE growth in your second season
Good to know! Appreciate the feedback here. Any information is super helpful for next year.
Hey man, love your channel. The effort you put in is amazing, and the comments really show how much people appreciate it. Have you thought about starting a Patreon to fund the show? I'm sure people would love to give. I almost feel like I'm stealing from you by watching this for free.
Thanks! I appreciate you saying that. I actually have a video course I sell. I don’t market it very well, but I rather earn money from my helpful products than just asking for financial support. This is my hobby and I’d do it for free ;-)
You've held up your end of the bargain.
Trying as best I can!
What why can't you do this every week or month. Why we waiting till next year??
I meant "next year" to do another ground-to-glass episode. Can't grow hops in the winter ;-)
Are you the pool guy also?
Haha! Yes I am. @SwimUniversity
Where are you?!?!?!?
Working on a video right now. Shooting starts tomorrow.
Ypu'll be year 2 or 3 before you get decent cones.
Good to know it wasn't just bad care ;-)
No those bloody hops will grow like hell no matter what you do. In another few years you'll be out there with a machete!
Good channel, you're a talented guy. Unbelievable setup, i just have a brewzilla in a box in the garage!
A buddy of mine grows hops on his fence, so they grow horizontally. I did a beer with them one year, we don't know what kind, and they sure aren't the west coast types. The second year he had 3-4 ounces, and even though I froze them, they went catty in a month.
That was my original plan but I didn’t have enough fence for all 7 to be in sunlight. Next year building a proper hop trellis.
Drop it now and I’ll Venmo you $5
Drop what?
W h a t i s t h a t h o p s o n g?????
I made it up LOL
@@BrewCabin DROP A RECORD YO!!! Or at least upload a video of the song lol
@@dallasphillips91 Haha! The song is only 25 seconds long. I'd have to make an extended version.
Your videos are ridiculous. Please keep creating them.
Will do!
The constant zooming in and out when you are talking is very distracting, otherwise it was very interresting to see the process from scratch.
Fair. It's only in the beginning really to help people get invested in the story quickly.
another lost youtuber
What does that mean?
@@BrewCabin Probably that we haven't seen content from you on the las few months, to a year
